Grassley calls Obama 'stupid' on Twitter

(CNN) - Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, who has long been an outspoken critic of President Barack Obama, used scathing language in a tweet Saturday to condemn the president's remarks about the Supreme Court last week.

"Constituents askd why i am not outraged at PresO attack on supreme court independence. Bcause Am ppl r not stupid as this x prof of con law," Grassley wrote, using typical shorthand for the social networking website.

Responding to the message, Obama campaign senior strategist David Axelrod, himself a prolific tweeter who often engages critics of the president, blasted the Iowa senator.

"Heads up, Sen. Grassley. I think a 6-year-old hijacked your account and is sending out foolish Tweets just to embarrass you!" Axelrod wrote.

Obama last Monday was asked about measures his administration was taking in the event the United States Supreme Court determines his health care law is unconstitutional. The high court heard oral arguments on the law in late March. Obama said such a decision would be "unprecedented."

"I'm confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress," the president said.

I remember just a few short years ago when saying anything agains then Pres. Bush was akin to committing treason–"you are un-American if you don't stand with the President" or "if you don't like what's going on here then leave"–but the republicans seem to demand respect but never give it!
Of course if /when a republican becomes POTUS I am sure we will once again hear how un-American it is to disrespect the president.

    D. Richards, almost everyone uses a telepromter, republicans use a telepromter. Obama speaks well because he says what he means, not what he is paid to or is just saying to get votes i.e. Bush, and all of the other big Republican "speakers" or should I say mouth pieces.

That is the reason republicans are horrible at giving speeches and when they run for president and actually lay out their ideas, we realize how intelligent they really are.

Obama uses a telepromter less than most that have given speeches as much and for as long durations as he has.

When someone makes such STUPID comments as so-called Pres?'O, that would, if he had his way, strip America away of her ALL rights, what else would one say who KNEW it?!?!!!! I would have a whole lot more to say to his face and would slap it silly if I could, just to put some sense into that anti-american muslim brain of his.

Grassley just continues to prove what an arrogant classless person he is. He should be ashamed of his juvenile behavior.

No trouble determining who watches conservative media: just look for the FOX parrots, who subsidize Saudi-owned propaganda who squawk about " freedom" and use it as a punchline.

How rediculous can you get. Its alright to disagree with the President's views, but that doesn't mean you have to hate the guy so much that you would call him a name. I may not fully agree with everything the president has done, but I don't hate him nor do I think he's stupid. President Obama is an intelligent person (more so than Grassey will ever be) so to call him stupid implies ignorance and bigotry. This nit wit and a bunch of other Republicans/conservatives need to start respecting President Obama a little more if they want to be taken seriously, but I have a feeling that that isn't going to happen.

I think we're all forgetting the bigger issue here...Why is an elected official far past the prime of his life Tweeting? I'm in my early 20s and I think Twitter is stupid. If you must be an elected official and Tweet, have a staffer do it in long hand (you know, like an adult) and have it be just about events and maybe thoughts about tragic events. What you don't do is tweet in short hand like a tween and call POTUS "stupid" (which in my opinion is like calling Newt Gingrich a family man...it's just not true).

This is par for the Republican mentality. They have no agenda or ideas, they just call people names. Vote the Rupublican bullies out.

STOP USING RACISM AS A CRUTCH!!!!!!!! Just because someone does not agree with Obama, does not mean they are racist. Everytime someone publically disagrees with Obama, someone in the democratic party screams racism. Enough!!!! I am a minority, and i think Obama is destroying everything this country has stood for since we split from England. I think he has made us look weak as a country and has not stayed true to ANYTHING he has promised. He has spent more money in his first 3 1/2 years then anyone has in the past, unemployment is at a all time high for most of his term. He promised to bring the troops hoe with 12 months, funny he finally does that the year he is up for his second term. Racism has nothing to do with it. he is not a good president and he has no right to FORCE us to take his plan, He has no right to force us to have heath care at all. And to an earlier comment about the first amendment, That senator has the right to state his opinion. If you dont like what he said, dont listen, but he has every right to vocalize his disapproval in a leader that has done NOTHING for the people he leads. Obama is a joke, and does not deserve a second term. And to all the people that call racism everytime someone diagrees with Obama, I say this, enough, stop hidding behind his race and just accept the fact that a large group of people in this country do not like or agree with his policies and plans. I am one of those people. Race has nothing to do with it.

Never in my years watching the news or following politics, have I seen such utter disrespect for the office of the president. There have been political attacks but they have always held to some understood level of decorum. In their haste to detract Barack Obama they have forgotten the due respect duly given to the OFFICE of the president. I do not recall any Demmocrat calling President Bush Jr. any names even when most comedians in the US had so much material to work with on the actions of then president Bush. There would be a political witch hunt if the next president is republican and democratic representatives would disrespect him. I really enjoy the political double standard currently in the US. Oh and by the way it could be racially motivated as well, that makes the disrespect acceptable to republicans. Thankfully the current President is not a female black american, just imagine the disrespect level if she were.

It is the Repub Senator who is petty and stupid !!!!! If Congress would concentrate on doing it's job and not playing to, hatred, this country would be on top again. Why do'nt we just elect my Granddaughters kindergarten class to congress, maybe they would be more productive. Anyway, The POTUS did not say anything The "GOOD" Senator has'nt said when he disagreed with the courts opinion. Repubs have been bashing ROE V Wade for 40 years. For sure there is freedom of speech in this country, and I will defend it. But Grassley shows absolutely no class. I don't know what things are coming to, etc.

Charlie left common sense behind years ago and is a embarrassment to the people of Iowa. This is the same guy that pushed for Medicare part D and left it completely unfunded. Got 50 million dollars for a rain forest in Iowa, really! Is still convinced the Health care law provides for death panels. Charlie needs to be in a nursing home, not the senate.

And yet, STILL the Left believes this imbicile was a Professor of Law. Even as he refuses to show his college credentials, or "anything" to do with any school he attended. Are you ever sure he went to school at all? NOPE. But does the Left care? NOPE. He's their Messiah. Plain and simple. The GOD of the Left. Bow and Hail GOD Obama! King of Lemmings.

  25. Highly Inappropriate Remark

By making his remark, which was truly a "stupid" remark, Senator Grassley shows his extreme ignorance and disrespect. He did not just insult Mr. Obama, the man, he greatly insulted the Office of President of the United States which he holds. Therefore, he has embarrassed the whole country before the world. For that, he should be censured by the Senate.
