Grassley calls Obama 'stupid' on Twitter

(CNN) - Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, who has long been an outspoken critic of President Barack Obama, used scathing language in a tweet Saturday to condemn the president's remarks about the Supreme Court last week.

"Constituents askd why i am not outraged at PresO attack on supreme court independence. Bcause Am ppl r not stupid as this x prof of con law," Grassley wrote, using typical shorthand for the social networking website.

Responding to the message, Obama campaign senior strategist David Axelrod, himself a prolific tweeter who often engages critics of the president, blasted the Iowa senator.

"Heads up, Sen. Grassley. I think a 6-year-old hijacked your account and is sending out foolish Tweets just to embarrass you!" Axelrod wrote.

Obama last Monday was asked about measures his administration was taking in the event the United States Supreme Court determines his health care law is unconstitutional. The high court heard oral arguments on the law in late March. Obama said such a decision would be "unprecedented."

"I'm confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress," the president said.

Mr. Grassley is getting to the age that he says whatever he wants to say about anyone he wants to say it. Chuck why don't you come home and bring Mitch McConnell along with you. The two of you can hide easter eggs out in the pasture.

It appears that no one is listening. Obama, without a shadow of doubt will rule this great nation for 8yrs. Maybe calling him names is the antidote or abusing the Office of His Presidency. When you start respecting that Office, that housed previous greater presidents, maybe those that are turned off may start listening again. Obama, in my book is one of the smartest president this nation has ever seen. You may disagree with him, you must respect the Office of his Presidency.

United States is in a very bad place today. We are killing our fellow Americans for the dumbest reasons. The republicans party is dividing the country. There are people in congress that disrespecting the Oval office. This is a prelude what we can expected if the Republicans win offices on the local and the federal level.

Does anyone really belive that changing who is potus at this time we will wake up the following day and everything will return to blue skies and rainbows? Our happy days hallucination was supported by banks giving money to everyone on property that is now deserted and declining in value. We as a nation are paying the price of lack of regulations. To think that is what we should go back to is outright insanity....big oil will not regulate itself,Hell the catholic church couldn't regulate itself! I challenge anyone to name an organization that has successfully regulated itself. The government has to be regulated by we the people and by putting in a president at this time who wants to play the candyman to take away our pain to make us feel better for the moment.... That's what got us into this mess to begin with. It's time to grow up !!!!

For those condemning Grassley – where is the condemnation for Reid? He has called Bush both "a liar" and "a loser" in public...This has nothing to do with race as some would like you to think.

I hate to say it but our President is stupid... Also several people here were talking about respect. I do have respect for the OFFICE, but that doesn't mean that I have to respect the person that is in it when it isn't deserved. Our current president does nothing but blame others and make excuses. He needs to man up and take responsibility for the current state of our country. As much as an idiot our last President was he can't still be at fault for everything anymore. To much time has passed.

So Mr. Grassley thinks GWB was a genius then? A C-Student, (with a legacy) and you call a President of the Harvard Law Review graduated magna cum laude, "stupid"?

An open question to Mr. Grassly: What's your opinion of George W. Bush's intelligence? (He might still be looking for WMD in Irak; or wondering why the economy he destroyed is not blooming.)

Senator Grassley, you are a boor. You have no class whatsoever. And you negotiate in bad faith therefore, you sir, are a fraud.

What is "disrespectful"? Obama is not King. He is not Emperor. He is not royalty. The Executive, Legislative and Judicial Branches of Government are all EQUAL parts of the government. Obama is nothing more than a Civil Servant, as were all the past Presidents. He deserves no special treatment. And he certainly is no economic genius.

I am sure Mr. Grassley is not alone with his summation of the president. Especially among republicans. So look at the source and move on. This mentality goes along way in explaining the inept congress. We get what we deserve.

This is the same senator Chuck Grassley who advocated and believed in individual mandate for Healthcare law! Enuff said!!!

Typical of GOP/Tea Partiers to say anything and do anything to tarnish the good name of the president; who is at least trying to fix the economy that "stupid" GWB left in a deep recession!!!!

grades are not a predictor of success. worked with many people with great grades in college and in real life they were as dump as a rock.
as far as the economy goes, obama has no idea on what to do to get it turned around, or does not want to take the required steps.

wd - the difference is that Reid stated the obvious as seen on the state of the country when he left office wile Grassley cannot accept that the President is a very smart man!

The president is both stupid and incredibly dishonest. Deceptive and dishonest folks are always stupid.

panola, I think you got your baring’s wrong. When talking about deception and dishonest it is mostly on the GOP side (from the very first day organizing obstruction and stating “one-term”, remember?)!

As America's wisest half-wit once said, stupid is as stupid does, and just about everything Obama has done falls into the "stupid does" category….

Henry, you just do not seem to be able to comprehend realistically the picture our political landscape shows. It has nothing to do with problems and the ability to solve them but personal attacks of the President that are not only grossly out of bound but in most cases factually incorrect. Only for about 1% of the population his policies might not make them happy but the rest would benefit. Your resistance for instance on ACA shows that you do not understand how important a good, affordable, and inclusive health care system is to the personal and economic wellbeing of a country! Go, do yourself a favor and study the subjects you dislike before knocking them!

The only way to explain the backlash by Republicans on attacking President Obama for his comments about the impending ruling by the Supreme Court is racism. It's just the sad truth. They must look at the President as if he doesn't know his place, that's he's beneath them.

How can I make such an accusation? President Bush made a speech that was far more inflammatory about the Supreme Court. I saw the clip myself and the GOP President outright attacked the Court. So what else can any reasonable mind be left to think than a black man cannot do what a white man can.

Not that it makes any difference because of the childishness. I believe the President came out first and called America stupid because we didn't understand "Professor of Law shorthand." Just because this guy translated it into english that common America can understand the Left are all mad at him and now that a Republican has said it CNN decides to put it into Headlines
