Grassley calls Obama 'stupid' on Twitter

(CNN) - Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, who has long been an outspoken critic of President Barack Obama, used scathing language in a tweet Saturday to condemn the president's remarks about the Supreme Court last week.

"Constituents askd why i am not outraged at PresO attack on supreme court independence. Bcause Am ppl r not stupid as this x prof of con law," Grassley wrote, using typical shorthand for the social networking website.

Responding to the message, Obama campaign senior strategist David Axelrod, himself a prolific tweeter who often engages critics of the president, blasted the Iowa senator.

"Heads up, Sen. Grassley. I think a 6-year-old hijacked your account and is sending out foolish Tweets just to embarrass you!" Axelrod wrote.

Obama last Monday was asked about measures his administration was taking in the event the United States Supreme Court determines his health care law is unconstitutional. The high court heard oral arguments on the law in late March. Obama said such a decision would be "unprecedented."

"I'm confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress," the president said.

Well, I was going to suggest that stupid people, regardless of party, don't become POTUS, but I then remembered George W. Bush and had to adjust my thinking.

Three words to describe Grassley: Fetal alcohol syndrome. Check out the (no) chin. A sure sign.

this "supreme court is a Joke" can you right winger tell me how many thoughtful questions Mr. Thomas asked during the 3 days of testimony on the Affordable Care Act. if you answered ZERO you are correct. ever ask yourself why? hmmm. could it be that this right wing incompetent justice knows how he is going to vote before the arguments are heard? does that seem like the kind of judicial system YOU want to go up against. thought not.

...Is this for real? Seriously? Wow.

The "but-but-THEY DID IT WITH BUSH!" argument is irrelevant. In his case, the comments that got more personal tended to come from average joes like you and me. In THIS case, these comments are coming from members of our elected government that supposedly represent this country. I don't recall even opinion columnists having this much disrespect for George W. Bush on a personal level!

This is the same senator who with his 'high intelligence' proposed the "death panel" concept for health insurance.

Then the some brainless conservatives try to pin that as a Democratic one in the last elections (08).
When conservatives like Grassley go on this hyperbolic rant, they start losing elections.

The senator has no concept of decorum, propriety, or civility.

If he has even an iota of shame, he should apologize and promptly resign. He's served far too many terms on the public trough.

That's not typical shorthand. That's an affront to the English language.

The repugs are just not happy unless they are stirring something up and embarrassing themselves. Typical "I am always right and everyone else is wrong" repug mentality. Why Branstad had to stick his repug nose in too is beyond me. What role models are these two yeahoos are. If the elected officials don't have the sense to at least show some respect for the president, then they need TO GO!!!! Most people in Iowa are much much smarter than these two.

I question Obama's discretion in voicing this opinion. However, as far as Grassley's tweet goes? Consider the source.

"used scathing language in a tweet Saturday"

How doesn't anyone else find that hilarious....this is like high-school all over...I'm glad to see that my tax dollars are going so that two grown men can attack each other on Twitter...

Can we just fire everyone in washington and start hiring people who actually care about the people who they're supposed to be representing...get off this party-line crap and start actually working together...I thought that was Obama's message...YES WE CAN...well..apparently we can't

Another angry GOP Congressman spewing more hatred to the President. GOP is a party in decline who no longer respects the President or the presidency. They are filled with more hatred and rage every day. GOP are the party of doom and gloom. The American people will stand firm and not be swayed by a party wanting to destroy the very fabric of the nation. The GOP party is going over a cliff and truly lost its way....

Republicans have to be the stupidest people that there is. they can raise billy hell about someone or thing and it is fine. let a democrat do the same and they call them out on exactly the same thing that they just did. what a wonderful country america could be if all republicans were voted out of office. two of the worst are grassley and mcconnel.

Everyone says things are going so badly, well I will tell you as a senior on limited income it is better than it was before Obama Care. Someone in my local newspaper said it best. It is called Obama Care because Obama Cares!!! I love it and Grassley is an old guy that needs to give his $174,00 a year salary to a younger man or woman that does need it. Grassley will have a pension for life, but he feels there is no one in the world that can do as well as he can. I told him that in an email and he basically said he would run until he lost because the people just LOVE him. Oh sure.

See? these moron Republicans think they can get away with any kind of insults to the President, JUST BECAUSE HE IS AN AFRICAN AMERICAN person. The lack of respect for our U.S. President begins with the Republicans, but......... elections are coming and we will have President Obama AGAIN FOR ANOTHER 4 YEARS! way to go Mr. President, way to go!!

Apparently Grassley thinks Americans are stupid enough to be swayed by barefaced libel. I for one am confident Americans will prove him wrong by voting enough Republicans out of office this November to get the USA going the right way again. The Tea Party has been exposed as a failed experiment in sabotage of democracy. The Wall Street Right and Religious Right have nothing to offer Americans but wage slavery and Taliban social engineering. Obama 2012; Clinton 2016; Clinton 2020! After that the Kochs and many like them will be dead – good riddance – and maybe America will have re-joined the civilized world.
