Grassley calls Obama 'stupid' on Twitter

(CNN) - Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, who has long been an outspoken critic of President Barack Obama, used scathing language in a tweet Saturday to condemn the president's remarks about the Supreme Court last week.

"Constituents askd why i am not outraged at PresO attack on supreme court independence. Bcause Am ppl r not stupid as this x prof of con law," Grassley wrote, using typical shorthand for the social networking website.

Responding to the message, Obama campaign senior strategist David Axelrod, himself a prolific tweeter who often engages critics of the president, blasted the Iowa senator.

"Heads up, Sen. Grassley. I think a 6-year-old hijacked your account and is sending out foolish Tweets just to embarrass you!" Axelrod wrote.

Obama last Monday was asked about measures his administration was taking in the event the United States Supreme Court determines his health care law is unconstitutional. The high court heard oral arguments on the law in late March. Obama said such a decision would be "unprecedented."

"I'm confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress," the president said.

@quousque I'll un-Twitter the tweet for you. "Constituents asked why i am not outraged at President Obama attack on Supreme Court independence. Because American people are not as stupid as this ex professor of constitutional law [referring to Obama]" Thus, he called Obama stupid.

Give me a break. Obama graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard Law School. Please look up what Magna Cum Laude means in the dictionary.

When Conservatives complain about "activist" judges, they are being patriots. When Obama complains about "activist" judges, then he' stupid. This gives you insight into the simpleton brain that constitutes the conservative mind.

First and foremost, whether you agree with the President's political views or not, HE IS THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. I am sick of people in "power" i.e. other politicians thinking that it okay or even close to ACCEPTABLE to shake their fingers in his face, interrupt his State of the Union address with name-calling and the like. IT ISN'T ACCEPTABLE. Let me say it again, THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WILL NOT TOLERATE SUCH BEHAVIOR! Sadly, never in American history has a President been treated with such DISRESPECT. Now everyone, I think it would be pretty easy to think what is different about this President, compared to all former American Presidents...oh yeah, he's black. Say what you will, but the record of behavior speaks for itself. Signed, A WHITE AMERICAN WHO RESPECTS WHOMEVER IS THE PRESIDENT, REGARDLESS OF RACE AND PARTY.

This is just another in a long line of winking conservative suggestions that Barack Obama is actually just another stupid black man. We've seen everything from public statements claiming that Obama never earned his Harvard degree to disgusting mailbox items claiming that he doesn't know how many states are in the union. These are thinly-veiled attempts to appeal to the closet racists that still haunt the ranks of the GOP base.

It's funny that GOPers think this kind of thing riles up the left. Not so, of course. Just makes us roll our eyes and wonder why anyone with a brain would want to be a Republican.

Another example of the grievous lack of respect for our President. Like him or not, give the guy some effing respect.

Super Hypocritical Indignant Tea Sippers talk of preserving life by outlawing abortion, yet they are the first to advocate cutting insurance and support for poor and disabled children.

Super Hypocritical Indignant Tea Sippers! Nice acronym too.

What Obama said was correct and factual. The Supreme Court is VERY reluctant to overturn acts of Congress. They've done it only a hundred and some times out of how many tens of tens of thousands of laws/acts/bills passed by Congress?. I'll bet the percentage is EXTREMELY small. Grassley knows this. He's just like so many in Washington that pander to the public's fears and lack of knowledge rather than lead and try to educate the public with FACTS.

Regardless of who is in the Office, the GOP again has shown total disrepect for the man and the Office. Of the 3 branches of govt, Obama is 1 of the 3.....the Executive branch......and he is entitled to his opinion, unless Freedom of Speech doesnt apply to a black man.

The outrageous level of rude, crass disrespect shown by the republican party to this president is what's unprecedented. It boggles the mind. If anyone had spoken directly to Bush in this disrespectful manner all hell would have broken loose. I am consistently in awe of how this president manages to stay calm and generally gracious in the face of such ugly, partisan arrogance as is displayed by the GOP. They all need lessons from our grandparent: it's okay to disagree. It is NOT okay to speak to the President of the United States like that.

I don't care who is president – have respect for the office. Name calling is not an effective way to communicate and accomplishes nothing.

Contrary to the faux indignation-laden diatribes of conservative pundits and politicians, the POTUS never threatened or attempted to intimidate the Supreme Court justices. He simply stated his point of view regarding the constitutionality of the health care legislation.

The GOP and the clowns on FOX News apparently don't have much regard for the intestinal fortitude and psychological backbone of the members of the SCOTUS, believing that the Supreme Court can be so easily manipulated.

Obama never claimed that the SCOTUS couldn't overturn the health care legislation. He simply noted that they shouldn't do so and then predicted that they wouldn't do so.

I am sick and tired of all the disrespect that is aimed towards this president. Never in all of my 62 years have I heard and/or read about so much hatred aimed at a president! It is disgusting! You would think that someone would take on the role of the responsible adult and say "Enough!!!!" I remember many people lost their jobs when negative things were publicly said about President G. W. Bush. But we all know what the BOTTOM line is here.

The President really stirred up the Republicans. Why else would they be so on the defensive??? We all know the courts are politicized and have been loaded with conservative hipocrits who only wish to advance the republican agenda. This is why it is important to get more centrist, centrist/left judges elected and appointed to these offices. The president is exposing this fake "impartial" body for the fraud that it is......another political insitutuion.
