(CNN) – It's not the way most Americans spent Easter weekend, but then again, most Americans aren't Mitt Romney. And that's the potential problem that will be leveraged against him in the battle for the White House.
The former Massachusetts governor and likely Republican presidential nominee spent the past few days with his family at his beach house in expensive and exclusive La Jolla, California. That's the same three-bedroom home, purchased for $12 million four years ago, that has made headlines over the past couple of years after reports of plans for a major remodeling and expansion.
Mittens will be able to pay for the house in one year with the Ryan/Romney tax cuts for the wealthy, and the rest of us will get stuck paying more taxes.
Mittens is going to get a lot of help from the airport wide stancer, Karl Rove. Over a half of a billion dollars in negative ads from the Kochs, Rove, the swift boaters, and Mittens own pac money to give our government back to big oil, big banks, big insurance, foreign corporations, Wall Street, and defense contractors. Now they are saying the republicans could spend more than 3 billion in negative ads.
Who cares, John McCain has 7 houses and there wasn't this kind of attention. The only focus should be that the rich are paying their fair share of taxes and as long as Republicans continue the Bush tax breaks and people keep supporting Republicans, I could care less if Romney owns 100 houses.
Just a guess, how did the 11 grandkids and 3 husbands and wives get to the little cottage? They did not walk since the home base is in MA.
Yeah, that really rings with the 99%. Most could not afford to fly one person across the country yet 16 people sure did, easy.
Did he go to church, the article did not say. And it was Easter, the biggest church day for christians since he claims he is one. It doesn't feel at all like he is relating to the rest of us. Cheesy grits, trees are just the right height, y'all. It will never cut it.
I'm not mad @him maybe a good business man but sucks in everything else.
do we really need anther super rich president, who is out of touch with the general population? does he really like cheesy grits?
The entire Romney clan has bored most Americans for longer than Jessica Simpson's never ending pregnancy.
Why is this even here? He bought the house it is private property. Are y'all still tryin to make the man apologize for having done alright for himself and family!Since when do people have to say sorry for sucess?
Yeah, I can relate to that... NOT. I'm looking at downsizing to a modular.
Thats where the money is !
La Jolla used to be a nice place to live ! Maybe Romney's five sons are enlisting in the Navy or Marines , I think Not !
Charlie Don't Surf !
I think it is ashame that people are acting like being wealthy is a bad thing.I think most Americans strive to be successful and wealthy.I believe if ur upset with Romney bc of his wealth that is envy.If u had his money u would not want the government to take more of it but since it is not yours ur ok with them taking all they want.
Will never vote Republican, but seriously, what is the point here? My humble home might look palatial to some people in dire straights. This seems a little unfair to me. It's his policies (or lack of) that turn me off, not his money.
Seriously? Mitt spent the weekend with his family in yes, his expensive La Jolla home. and this means he's out of touch with the middle class? I'm sorry, what else does America want him to be doing? This is a disappointing story to see on CNN. I voted for Obama, have been disappointed, but as an undecided I am finding this silliness over a man spending his Easter with his grandkids beneath CNN. Obama spent it working on "important" things but then spent Monday rolling Easter eggs around...each man doing what a President and a family man running for President should be doing. CNN, let's be a little more fair in our reporting. So far I have only seen Anderson Cooper be fair to both men in his reporting and is the only segment I can stand to watch anymore. And since when is a man who's been successful and earned money, and living the American dream, wrong? If truthful, most of us would trade places with Mitt or anybody else, even a celebrity or lottery winner, in a heartbeat! Good for those people who have worked hard and made money and been successful. I whole heartedly support the idea of the welfare system for those who are in need but it's become a paycheck for those who make no effort to find a job, use the help to buy drugs and cigarettes, while they get their nails done and spend the money on everything but their children.. This is ruining it for the people who truly are deserving of our taxpayer money and want to work and get off of welfare. CNN...be a little smarter and fair in your reporting or at least find something more worthy of your viewers time other than a man spending the weekend with his family. You do remember the wealthy Kennedy family and their weekends on their yachts and the Hamptons, etc., right?
Congratulations Mitt. You worked hard and you SHOULD have riches. You have achieved the American dream. As putus please help the rest of us achieve it.
it is the time for americans to have perfect man from mormon church to lead them in perfect way
This article is trying to depict Romney as a snob, but what I see is person that knows a thing or two about buisness and making money;as compared to Obama that has spent the past 3 years of bankrupting buisnesses, and taking our money. Our Nation's Economy needs leaders that understand building buisnesses, and making money.
Nothing new here folks. Just a 3000 sq ft weekend cottage that the jobs killer spends a little time in.
Wonder how many homeless vets could exist there?
The same guy that tells the people in every state he comes to that he's a resident and favorite son ,how many states is that now??? Pa, Mich Nh mass, I give up and no thanks!!!!
Rmoney is so out of touch with average voters. However, he is sure to please his fellow predators lurking among the 1%. They all know how hard at can be to find a good car elevator repairman when it breaks down on the weekend and you can't get the Mercedes down for that drive to the country club.
This man has absolutely no idea of how the average American lives. I can see him now watching complete seasons of Friends and Seinfeld trying to learn how to be normal. The voters will see straight through him in November.
I would love to ask Gov. Romney a question because he fits the stereotype of the conservative talking point, the intangible job creator.
"Governer, since you are a "job creator", how many jobs have you created for people who work for you and your business."
For such a pricey home it sure lacks curb appeal.
