Romney: Santorum a VP possibility

Warwick, Rhode Island (CNN) – A day after Rick Santorum exited the GOP presidential race, likely nominee Mitt Romney said his former rival would make his list of vice presidential possibilities – but clarified there is not yet any list on which to be.

At a town hall in Warwick, Rhode Island, a man asked Romney if – given Santorum's Wednesday decision to suspend his campaign – Romney would "consider him as a vice presidential candidate."

"I've said this before," Romney said. "If any of the people I ran against happened to become the nominee, I would have endorsed them and supported them for president. So of course they'd be on that list - and he, among others."

Romney did make clear, however, that his campaign does not have a list of vice presidential picks.

"I don't have a list, yet," Romney said. "So I can't say someone is on or off my list."

Santorum has not backed Romney, though aides to the former senator said the two men plan to meet soon for a discussion.

The veepstakes has become a hot topic on the trail since Santorum announced he was leaving the race. Romney was asked about his shortlist on Wednesday at a town hall in Delaware.

"A lot of these decision about the campaign going forward we'll, we'll be thinking about that and making a number of decisions," he said, but cautioned the decision would not come soon: "When I say thinking about it, process – not individual names. I don't want to get started too quickly here."

Why would Romney even consider Santorum as a running mate when the GOP already has a deficit with women?

  3. vote the Tea Party OUT in 2012

so Mitt is willing to possibly pick a guy who called him the WORST Republican ever to run against Obama? I know stuff is said in the heat of the campaign but I bet if Santorum was still in this race he would double down on that comment! Romney might as well pick Newt Gingrich as a running mate. Just go ahead and pick Paul Ryan so he can lose the senior vote along with the Latino, female, Black, and LGBT vote he has already lost.

Mittens & the Rickster 2012? I don't see it happening. If I were Mittens, here's who I'd have on my short list for VP:
    – Governor Daniels (Indiana)
    – Governor Nikki Haley (South Carolina)
    – Colin Powell (although I don't think he would accept)

And here's who definitely wouldn't be on my list: Chris Christie (way too obnoxious, IMHO), Tim Pawlenty (too blah, and Mittens is already blah himself), and most definitely not Rick Santorum whose social conservatism and fanaticism is downright scary.

Quick search on Willard Mitt Romney shows that some people have a lot to hide including their FIRST name(s).

Ah yes, two of the biggest women haters ganging up to finish the job they started on us women. I've got news for them, women will take them apart piece by little boy piece. Neither of them are tough enough to cripple America's womenfolk and they'd better have bodyguards each time they walk off their podiums of hating on us. From trying to rape us with metal objects against our wills, to deny us the ability to determine how many children we can afford, to threatening to take away any chance of health care we can afford, for campaigning of destroying Planned Parenthood, one of the main vehicles for the poorest women to go to for reproductive help, cancer screenings and medicine. Teaming up with the radical immoral evangelical cults to beat women down until we agree to wear our grey burkhas and agree to follow throw heretic religions. The Congress might be filled with male wimps too juvenile to comport themselves like adult males with a degree of sanity, instead of hanging on to each others coattails and carrying the orders of their billionaire donors, but not the women in Congress. We will vote out each and every man who comes between our bodies and our our existence as free women. Romoney and Sanctimoniou, not even good enough for men to vote for. Any man who loves his wife and daughters, mothers and sisters, aunts and grandmothers, will not allow these two frauds to violate them in the ways they have warned in their campaign speeches.

SANTORUM; – "Romney, your brain is about THIS big!"
ROMNEY – "And your name is about this BIG!!"
"I know you are but what am I?"

Do it Romney. Put that theocrat on your ticket and watch how much of the electorate you turn off. It will be worse than John McCain's decision to put Sarah Palin on his ticket. You have won the republican nomination. Quit trying to appeal to the right wing extremists and try to appeal to independants and moderates. That is how general elections are won.

The Christian Taliban support Santorum. From the comments of Tony Perkins and Ralph Reed, among others, Romney is under some serious pressure to make Rick the VP. Problem is, Santorum will have a Palin Effect: he will drive away more potential voters than he will attract.

The only thing more dysfunctional than Congress is going to be the GOP convention.

Santorum as VP – bad choice. Santorum could and should play some important role in Romney administration, but not as a VP.

So he's looking for a crazy, whining, Bible-thumping right-winger who believes the Earth is less than 6000 years old and thinks contraception is evil... Hmmm... Santorum's a good choice in that arena... Still, the Tea Party provided so many with those credentials. What about Michelle Bachman? Wait... remember the Palin debacle...

No matter... Just ask the Koch brothers – because they'll be the ones making the choice anyway...

Romney should be aware that the people on his A list called him a phony, flip flopper, dishonest, and liar. Look at history, Brutus was on Caesar's A list too!

Typical RoMoney statement. This guy will do and say anything.

"A day after Rick Santorum exited the GOP presidential race, likely nominee Mitt Romney said his former rival would make his list of vice presidential possibilities – but clarified there is not yet any list on which to be."

Oh, great! If Santorum is the VP nominee then we can hear more about how contraception encourages bad behavior. Santorum has tried to deny his radical stance on this, but last October there is video of him saying that no other candidate for President will address this but he would. If he's the nominee I hope that tape gets played over and over.

Please don't pick Rick Santorum for VP. He is a false conservative because he votes for big government programs and wants to expand government into people's private lives to legislate his version of morality. That is not a conservative limited government approach. (former) Senator Rick Santorum is a false conservative.

A vice president doesn't have any power besides being a tie breaker in the senate, and replacing the president.

    That's it.

Presidental assassinations are not common thankfully, and the senate seldom votes so closely there needs to be tie beaker.

I would not want to see Romney anywhere near the White House, but if Santorum is his VP, then it is even more important that he gets nowhere near it.
