(CNN) - Hilary Rosen offered an apology Thursday after her comments about Ann Romney sparked an uproar and a debate over women and the economy.
"I apologize to Ann Romney and anyone else who was offended," Rosen, a top Democratic strategist and CNN contributor, said in a statement. "Let's declare peace in this phony war and go back to focus on the substance."

The previous day, Rosen argued Ann Romney could not understand the struggles of women in the sluggish workforce because she "never worked a day in her life" as a stay-at-home mother.
Her comments quickly set off a spiraling controversy, as high-profile leaders on both sides of the aisle rushed to the defense of Ann Romney and that of women opting not to pursue their careers to solely focus on raising their children.
Read the full statement below:
"Let's put the faux 'war against stay at home moms' to rest once and for all. As a mom I know that raising children is the hardest job there is. As a pundit, I know my words on CNN last night were poorly chosen. In response to Mitt Romney on the campaign trail referring to his wife as a better person to answer questions about women than he is, I was discussing his lack of a record on the plight of women's financial struggles. Here is my more fulsome view of the issues. As a partner in a firm full of women who work outside of the home as well as stay at home mothers, all with plenty of children, gender equality is not a talking point for me. It is an issue I live every day. I apologize to Ann Romney and anyone else who was offended. Let's declare peace in this phony war and go back to focus on the substance."
I am old school and personally I think women SHOULD be home taking care of kids and cleaning the house and making supper for their husbands!! The republican party still uphold these goo family values and obviously the Romney's have also. Same with santorum who chose to homeschool their kids. The Democrats are just all about women issues and liberties and other BS! No one wants women to work outside of home. That is not their place. Their place is to be at home and take care of their husbands! This communlst women Rosen once again spews liberal beliefs! I'm voting for Romney all the way because he like most conservatives think that women's place should not be in corporate America but rather be at home!!!! Stooopid libruls and their progressive policies!!! What's next? we already have some women pastor in some satanic church and women in the military. America better wakeup otherwise this country is doom!!!!!!!!!
ROMNEY 2012!!!! the only sane choice for America!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
why did she apologyze? she spoke the TRUTH! republicans lie all the time and NEVER EVER apologyze!
Of course lets not forget that Rosen was the lead lobbiest for the recording industry which jailed kids for downloading files from NAPSTER.
They send in the attack dog so they can keep their hands clean. Their point was made. If they were really bothered by what she said....Why not fire her?
good for you Mrs Rosen go for it let him have (Romney)
The "phony war" is the "war on women".
She is not really sorry. That is how liberals feel. Be honest!
Rosen was right on the money with her comment, she was not belittling Ann Romney, she simply stated a fact. She was born into money and then married into more. Does anyone think she knows anything about being a working mother, struggling to feed her children, struggling to pay for child care because she doesn't have the luxury to be a stay at home mother? Please, this is simply another ploy from the Robmey camp to throw everyone off track because the man doesn't have a clue how to campaign with a little dignity. Please believe the Robmeys had plenty of help, nannies, housekeepers and maids. The day Ann Robmey can tell me she had to choose between paying her light bill or buying food for her children, then I might feel sorry for her. People say horrible, rotten things about the first lady everyday and no one utters a peep.
OBAMA 2012!
Hillary Rosen should not have to apologize, after all Ann Romney did not work outside her home, so she held all her life only one job unllike millions of women in the country who have to juggle their professional life and raise children without nannies, cooks, cleaning staff and without millions of dollars income of her husband who pays less taxes than his cleaning ladies unless they are illegal immigrants!!
no need to apologize... Romey's have no clue
In this day in age, where you screw up once, and your career is on the line.
She should be fired.
I find her comments offensive and racist!!!!!!
Well, let's see, how many stay at home women (votes) are there out there? The Census counted 5.6 Million. And, the largest ethnic group to do so are Hispanics. So, Rosen, thanks so much for informing them (and the rest of us) of your liberal, democratic views on the inability of stay at homes mom's to know about the economy. Of course being a lesbian probably made it more difficult for you.
She is only sorry because it back fired.
The republicans the only thing they like its going to War or control the World lets protect our Borders put the Army in the Borders please my Country do (Brasil)
Canadians – the USA's best friends do not like Romney – 97% would vote againts him and claim he is just in it for his own glory – some have even claimed that if he wins we will build a fence on the boarder AND shut off all energy to the USA -Canadians describe him and geo -polical enemy of Canada – oh by the way the 3% who said YES to Ronmoney are Mormons living in Canada or have a serious mental problems
stay cool America
Wow Jackie Kennedy stayed home with her kids and was born rich hmmm!
Who care about the Romney's glad he is gone.
Phoney war? You fire the shot, you miss and look like a bigot,. Now it's a phoney war, lets get back to the issues? The issue is your candidates inability to lead this country. And in case you didn't hear me the first time Timothy Gietner should be in prison
Ok who would I rather have as the wife of the president of the usa- Mrs. Romney or a lesbian, ex wife with twins who sends them to day care? I'll pick Mrs. Romney a stay at home mom.. What's wrong with the Democratic Party today is the totally dysfunctional beliefs. It counters everything the US once stood for and should still stand for and is totally against being fair as they like to say. Mrs. Romney is being attacked just as Pallin was attacked because both of these ladies believed differently then women of the left. Let the WOTL spew hate , counter culture habits but let a women state holsum beliefs you better stand back and hold on for dear life. Wemon of the Dem. Party HATE other women who aren't feminist to the 10th degree- there is no mid point for these GALS- it's sickening.
How about John Kerry's wife being a billionaire. Why was this issue not raised. The fact is that this is not an issue at all. She is a stay at home mom and all the cry babies wish that they had the luxury to be a stay at home mom. We were not rich but my mom stayed at home to raise me and there are lots of women that stay at home and raise kids. The problem is that we need so much luxury in our life that both husband and wife have to work.
Ann romney never worked a day in her life , Mitt Romney said the poor can take care of themselves .
We do not need these creeps in the whitehouse . Ann romney never had to sweat over a paycheck , or
try to stretch it out till the next pay day . She never had to worry about child day care versus eating !
Or taking a bus to work or walking because of medical bills ! Rosen is right the romney´s have no business
trying to run this country ! Plain and simple !
The only reason she apologized, is the negative feedback received.
Besides there being a phony "war on women". Her apology was phony.
I wonder what Hilary Rosen's MOTHER would say about her statement?!! Judging from the ignorance of her statement, there is a strong likelihood she was abandoned and raised by wolves.
Geez. Amazing how much contempt "progressive," "liberal," "feminist" women have for stay-at-home mothers. Interesting variation on misogyny.
