(CNN) – Hilary Rosen offered an apology Thursday after her comments about Ann Romney sparked an uproar and a debate over women and the economy.
"I apologize to Ann Romney and anyone else who was offended," Rosen, a top Democratic strategist and CNN contributor, said in a statement. "Let's declare peace in this phony war and go back to focus on the substance."

The previous day, Rosen argued Ann Romney could not understand the struggles of women in the sluggish workforce because she "never worked a day in her life" as a stay-at-home mother.
Her comments quickly set off a spiraling controversy, as high-profile leaders on both sides of the aisle rushed to the defense of Ann Romney and that of women opting not to pursue their careers to solely focus on raising their children.
Read the full statement below:
"Let's put the faux 'war against stay at home moms' to rest once and for all. As a mom I know that raising children is the hardest job there is. As a pundit, I know my words on CNN last night were poorly chosen. In response to Mitt Romney on the campaign trail referring to his wife as a better person to answer questions about women than he is, I was discussing his lack of a record on the plight of women's financial struggles. Here is my more fulsome view of the issues. As a partner in a firm full of women who work outside of the home as well as stay at home mothers, all with plenty of children, gender equality is not a talking point for me. It is an issue I live every day. I apologize to Ann Romney and anyone else who was offended. Let's declare peace in this phony war and go back to focus on the substance."
Women like that are servants, yes SERVANTS of people like OBAMA, Biden and the rest of those godless, lying, stay on your back type women lovers. WOMEN AGAINST OBAMA unite!!!
I don't think she is sorry at all. She is apologizing because of so much opposition from both sides specially democrats. Now she says it was the wrong choice of words.
ms rosen is only apologizing because she put her foot in her mouth & got caught. She typical of what this administration is trying to do & that is create class & race warfare. Divide the nation so one man can get reelected? That is not leadership – that is vanity. Ms Rosen represents the administration. Where is our leader now – if he cared & was accountable for his people – he would have been one of the first to say Ms Rosen is wrong, does not represent my views or feelings & any employee of mine that does/says something like this will be terminated. He can race to be judgmental in the Martin case but cant in this one? Poor leadership
Is this the type of analyst that CNN promotes and supports? Unbelievable. Even this Admin is distancing from this person. I believe we have seen the last of Rosen speaking on behalf of the current administration. Way to go CNN...
Ms. Rosen never disparaged stay at home mothers or working mothers. The point she is making is that Mitt Romney should not put his wife in a position to be the arbiter of economic issues facing American women today. She has no clue. And just talking to women on the campaign trail doesn't give her any more credibility. The people she talks to are hand picked by the campaign. Ms. Rosen has nothing to apologize for. She is right on!
What Ms Rosen meant by her comment was that Mrs Romney never had to work to support her family.
good for you Hilary Rosen, standing by what you really mean....i got you. Mitt thinks because he has the $$$$, he'll trash everyone along the way...and that's how he THINKS he will win......why is Wolfe "like a dog with a bone" with this issue?????Hilary Rosen is right, she meant working outside the home women, not stay-at-home-moms......GOOD for you Hilary....Christine
Wow, Rosen you can't even apologize when trying to say its a apology. You gave us all a preview of how the top demo's will be handling the campaign for your Obama. Throw mud and see what can stick against Romney and his family. You are a classless act.
Make sacrifices and have your spouse stay at home to help raise the children and its bad. Work hard and become financially sucessful and its bad. Its a lot of jealously and envy. Jim and Jeff and others above just seem to have made poor choices and were not willing to make sacrifices and now they are envious and angry. Pretty sad.
"Let's declare peace in this phony war and go back to focus on the substance."
The only phony thing about this is Rosen's "apology". The lack of "substance" is hers to own.
Time for Dems to distance themselves from this loose cannon.
People who work hard all their life like us, have people like Brad & Annie who want to share our hard earned money.
I don't see you guys and girls except when you WHINE!
what do u expect from a left wing liberal (play by the book Democ), she is like most of them "hyprocrites"
what no comment about the kennedy"s/kerry's or Oboma's These people seem have never worked a day in a job in there life (inherited money/married into/??????where it came from). did u expect the truth out of her mouth or just as usual "slander" the motto they live by.......but don't let a republican make a comment like that ...................
Wolf, H. Rosen said she's sorry. Let it go. Let's stop talking about this little spat and start talking about how we can help working women who are really struggling.
I would not have apologized. What she said was correct Mrs. Romney has NO IDEA what it is like to punch a time clock and meet the demands of an employer. Being a stay at home mom is HARD but so is being a working mom and Mrs. Romney cannot/should not comment on what she does not know. I feel the Romney's are out of touch with most of America and DO NOT represent me.
I'm a stay at home mom and I knew what Rosen was trying to say. Anne Romney has no idea what it is to stress about money, her husband's job or how she's going to put food on the table. My husband works for a company owned by Bain Capitol and trust me they are not in the business of caring about the little people. Their business is to make the bottom line look good and sell off the company. They do not care about who will be left unemployed once the deal is done. The Romney's are so out of touch with reality. This Republican will not be voting this election!
This is Obama's War on Women. He, through his surrogates, chose to make this an issue rather than let America continue to hear about his other failed policies. Just like he did with his war against the Catholic Church, he is now choosing to sick his media pundits and Democratic Strategists on Women in the workplace. Unfortunately for him, he chose to have someone like Rosen attack Ann Romney's character and instead now has done what many had wondered would even be possible; unify the GOP base. While I am not surprised in the approach; attacking the person rather than the issue; to be so ignorant to whom Rosen would offend is utterly amazing. I suppose the GOP has Rosen to thank for unifying the masses. If there was any doubt before, there isn't any now, Obama is using these tactics to deflect people's attention on his failure; now he and Rosen have stepped into a big pile....
wow..A very smart lady rosen! hits the nail on the head! she would make a great democratic V.P. Tell us cnn, did u twist her arm for the apology? I'm betting u did! wolf blitzer just forced her to apologize again@ 4:09pm! The roomey's
are so very out of touch with what real every day people have to deal with! Mrs. roomey had the option not to work... easy choice when your rich and paying less taxes than most middle class people. I'm sorry mrs. roomey had to stay at home, very few middle class familys have 5 children....cause they could not afford 5 kids! Mrs. roomey is very fortunate!!! BUT OUT OF TOUCH!!!
I guess Axelrod sabotaged Ms. Rosen and gave her the wrong script.
So much hate and envy around. Let's admit that most women started to work for economic reasons: their husbands (if they had one) were not able to provide anymore for their families. Ms. Romney was a 'lucky' woman with a rich father and an entrepreneurial husband who were able to make money. Send your men to work ladies and don't be so hateful. Other women want to work, be independent and have their own careers - I do, which doesn't mean I ever insult friends who make other choices (if they can or they have to). I also don't believe that Ms. Romney is 'out of touch' because she never had a paid job. How much time do working women spend to understand and advocate for others' problems? Not much because we are busy. Let her do it because she has the time and money.
Hilary Rosen does not need to apologize to romeney's wife about not working a day in her life . sure ann romney had to raise children (in a GREAT BIG house full of BUTLERS & MAIDS!) There is a blog on this site that says "republican calls Obama stupid". Is this republican going to apologize or is he going to stick his finger in the presidentsface like that EVIL BITC# jan brewer did!
Yesterday, the idiot MITT was blaming Obama because women did not have jobs...he is simply TWISTING everybody's words to suit himself.........God Help america with MITT running the show
Stop apologizing. Poor rich woman having to stay home with her kids. Boo-hoo. Did she actually have to do it single-handedly? I doubt it.
Oh stop bashing Hillary Rosen –what she said is exactly right and it is a shame that we have to hear what's her name ROMNEY come out and act like sheis a hard working mom. She probably never even changed a GD diaper. what a croc of sh– gang those ROMEYS ARE! Get off the TV and change those damn JEANS!
Is there a Republican war against women? Of course not, as that wouldn't serve their purposes. Is there an actual neglect or an ignoring of women's specific issues and interests by Republicans? That likely is another story as their concentration, beyond any doubt, is on the issues and interests of "the money", over and above any other concern, and while they offer a whole lot of rhetoric to con the people into believing they sincerely care about all issues, anything that conflicts or detracts from their focus on "the money"'s concerns, their strong supporters, is viewed as not serving their political ambitions (which is what they are all about). Any doubt? Just check their actions and history without being caught up in their words.
Sure. I can just see Ann Romney hands-on,, sorting the laundry or scrubbing the toilet, or any other routine, often grubby household chore. That was all yaken care of by other working mothers. As F. Scott Fitzgerald said in The Great Gatsby, the rich are different from you and I. They have money. It gives them choices. Which are unlikely to include long exhausting days makinbg a house a clean home for minimum wage plus busfare.
How NICE for her that she was able to stay home to raise 5 boys. But exactly on point.....the Romney' have NO CLUE what it is like to be a normal family....parents probably both working full time just to pay the mortgage and keep food on the table. These people are a joke when they try to imply they have any ideas what regular folk go through, a bad joke. Also an example of typical Mormon disregard for science.......we are grossly overpopulating the earth,. but they keep on pushin' 'em out. Hoping to overwhelm innate human intelligence with a mountain of magic underwear? Get a job Ann...try working 40-50 hours a week at a real job while also raising 5 kids. Betcha 10 grand you can't !
