Rosen apologizes over comments against Ann Romney

(CNN) – Hilary Rosen offered an apology Thursday after her comments about Ann Romney sparked an uproar and a debate over women and the economy.

"I apologize to Ann Romney and anyone else who was offended," Rosen, a top Democratic strategist and CNN contributor, said in a statement. "Let's declare peace in this phony war and go back to focus on the substance."

The previous day, Rosen argued Ann Romney could not understand the struggles of women in the sluggish workforce because she "never worked a day in her life" as a stay-at-home mother.

Her comments quickly set off a spiraling controversy, as high-profile leaders on both sides of the aisle rushed to the defense of Ann Romney and that of women opting not to pursue their careers to solely focus on raising their children.

Read the full statement below:

"Let's put the faux 'war against stay at home moms' to rest once and for all. As a mom I know that raising children is the hardest job there is. As a pundit, I know my words on CNN last night were poorly chosen. In response to Mitt Romney on the campaign trail referring to his wife as a better person to answer questions about women than he is, I was discussing his lack of a record on the plight of women's financial struggles. Here is my more fulsome view of the issues. As a partner in a firm full of women who work outside of the home as well as stay at home mothers, all with plenty of children, gender equality is not a talking point for me. It is an issue I live every day. I apologize to Ann Romney and anyone else who was offended. Let's declare peace in this phony war and go back to focus on the substance."

Rosen should not back off so quickly. I agree that even if Mrs. Romney stayed at home I am sure her 100 million dollar or more income paid for a nanny or two who really raised the kids. Who does she think she's kidding?

I think it's only fitting that someone like Rosen have a dose of their own crow when they attempt to feed the Democratic Attack engine with their attempts to attack the person rather than the issue. They don't engage the brain, shoot from the hip, and ricochet back and shooting off a part of their own anatomy. Americans can see through all of these attempts to side-step the failures of this administration by trying to look at the demographics, in this case, Women, and deciding to stir up an issue....well you stirred something up...not exactly what you had intended...not that easy to put the genie back inside the bottle...Rosen and others need to think before engaging...

Rosen is an ugly person and jealous having 'no family' ...she deserves to be fired.

The issue that Ms. Rosen is missing is that more women than men take care of the family finances. It makes no difference if they are a stay at home working mom or career mother. Mrs Romney or most other mothers will have the best perspective on rising prices and shrinking incomes. This is what the economy is all about. I appreciate the apology, but Ms. Rosen is still missing the point mothers (career and stay at home) have the best feel for the economy.

She shouldn't have caved. She did nothing wrong!

If you need advice about your children, you don't ask someone who has never had a child.

If you need advice about your marraige, you don't ask someone who has never been married.

If you need advice about women in the work force, you don't ask a woman who has never been in the work force.

I see nothing wrong with her original statement.

False Appology. She already said once before that she was not sorry. She is only now appologizing because of backlash against Obama. She is little more than a hateful person.

Rosen is a Democratic attack dog. Her job is to throw bombs with the hope that they cause the opposition to slip up by making a damaging statement. However, this bomb exploded in her face because she doesn't understand that a camp shouldn't attack the opposition for anything to do with homemaking, which is sacred and has NOTHING to do with a candidate's competence. The Obama machine jumped on this immediately because the last thing it wants is to offend independent, white female voters.

I wish they would lose the phrase, 'War on Women." There is no war. Using that term indicates that 'men' are the enemy and there is no enemy – we are your fathers and husbands, your sons and brothers – nearly all of who would stand by their woman's side no matter what. Even is there is a debate on an issue, that's all it is – a debate – a difference of opinion that we can argue out and decide the best outcome. Stop trying to create divisions when are all on the same side

Rosen said, "Let's declare peace in this phony war and go back to focus on the substance." Is she referring to the phony "War against women by the Republicans" that the liberals and main stream media keep talking about?

Regardless of working mom or stay at home mom, rich, poor, middle class or whatever being a parent is a full time job and pushing aside Ann's Romney's opinion simply because it does not match yours is ridiculous. She simply has a different point of view, different experiences, different philosophy that she can pull from to express her opinion. She is not wrong as no one is wrong when they express THEIR opinion because it is THEIRS. Now you can disagree with Ann, you can disagree with Hilary Rosen, but to state that they are wrong is well, wrong. They voiced their opinions and you can either disagree or agree but telling someone that they are wrong for holding or valuing certain views makes you the one in the wrong, not them.

...and how isn't the statement true? Hate how stay-at-home moms try to speak for working women. Let working women make their own decisions, and the same goes for stay-at-home moms. working women shouldn't place their values on stay-at-home moms. What I do find ironic these same conservative women that stay at home and never work in the work force, end up getting social security from their husbands labor. The things we dare not speak about women that never worked a day in their life, and receive government money. They talk about welfare queens, and they do exactly the same thing.

It used to be that liberals could make kooky remarks like this and get "away with it". This Democrat National Committee marketing firm spokesperson having to apologize proves that the main stream media can't run cover for the liberals anymore. The internet is the big equalizer when it comes to getting an alternative view to the agenda driven bias from the main stream media. CNN losing 1/2 their viewship also proves that their water toting days are coming to an end. If they don't at least make an effort to give a fair voice to conservatives, they will go the way of Huffington, WaPo, Time Magazine and Air America.

What difference does it make if she's a stay at home mom or grandmom? This has absolutely nothing to do with the election. Let's talk about the leech that is currently living in the White House....Michelle Obama's momma. What the heck does she do?

Karen – taking our kids to daycare while we work is NOT the "easy way out". For many women it is the only way, as they need to have a job to support or help support their children. And if you think Ann Romney actually raised those kids by herself, you are seriously delusional. They have housekeepers, cooks, gardeners, etc. etc. As a woman who has done it all, I know what I am talking about. In my current "old age" I now have a gardener and a twice monthly house cleaner – an absolute luxury. But I still help raise a child – its just my grandson this time.

Phony and disingenuous apology. Frankly, everyone's outlook and opinions count and Ann Romney has every right to speak on behalf of women as she is a woman. Being rich is not a crime and it's a shame that some people like this nasty Rosen woman can get away with these comments and then get away with a meaningless apology.

And that should really be that. The overreach of trying to put Rosen's words in Obama's mouth is patently absurd, will backfire and they should stop it. I'm a fair person and would do just the same for the GOP:

As soon as the GOP apologizes for enacting and trying to enact all sorts of legislation to attenuate women's reproductive freedom, control their medical and healthcare decisions, control their access to health care services and medical treatments, destroy PP, etc. AND shows they mean the apology by getting rid of all that legislation...well, then I'll consider the apology sincere and accept it and stop accusing them of a "war on women."

How many servants, nanny's, cooks did she have? I don't think she worked all that hard. Nothing to apologize for, political correctness overdone. The right is desperate for an issue, sorry not gonna happen.

how is that an apology? She negated the apology with that next sentence. It would have been better if she had just shut up.

What did Ms. Rosen mean when she said that Mrs. Romney did not work outside? That she is stupid? She does not know what's going on? Does not she has friend and relatives who work? A stay-home-mother is not suppose to know what's going on? I am sure that Mrs. Rosen and many other wealthy women, could give up a career, and stay home to rase their children with a mother, but hey... guess what? It;s easier for the to put the child in a day care center, dress up nice, and go out to work. easier than being with the child 24/7. Does it mean that they are smarter because they don't stay home?

Rosen's comment is uncalled for and mean spirited. So wives at home while husbands serve dont work I guess, or poor women who cant afford day care!
