Gingrich wants Santorum's endorsement

(CNN) – While Mitt Romney's campaign tries to secure Rick Santorum's endorsement, Newt Gingrich said Saturday that he also wants the former Republican presidential candidate's support.

"He has to do what he thinks is right for his family, and if he has campaign debt, what he has to do to help pay his campaign debt. I'm not going to put any pressure on Rick, but I'd love his endorsement," Gingrich told reporters at the NASCAR Hall of Fame in Charlotte.

He added the two talked briefly on Friday, though did not give any details from their discussion.

"We had a nice chat," he said.

Gingrich was quick earlier in the week to go after Santorum's backers shortly after the former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania suspended his campaign Tuesday. In a statement, Gingrich urged Santorum supporters to join his side and donate to his campaign.

Santorum has not yet made his pick, but members of his campaign told CNN he will support Romney.

While Gingrich maintains he'll stay in the race until Romney clinches the nomination, the former House speaker admitted Saturday that his campaign rented out its donor list because it was in need of cash.

"That's a very common reason why people rent things out. We wanted the money," Gingrich said, adding that his campaign also pulled in online donations from 6,000 people this week.

The candidate will travel to a number of states next week, including Delaware and New York, two states that hold primaries on April 24. Despite Romney essentially locking up the GOP nomination this week after Santorum's exit, Gingrich insisted Republican voters still want another option.

"Our scenario is to make the case that if you want to beat Obama, having somebody who can debate him successfully is very, very important," Gingrich said. "I think that's a very healthy competition, and in the next couple of weeks we'll see how it works out."

Santorum dropped out Tuesday because he had been exposed in Missouri for election fraud. His daughter has been sick the whole time. She was born sick. Eugene Dhokes (the former county chair for the GOP caucus in St Charles county, the largest voter block in Missouri) spilled his guts about it on a local radio station in St Louis. As usual you won't hear about it on cnn. The radio show is available on You Tube for those interested.

Why would Santorum endorse Gingrich, even if Gingrich is the only hope for the Republicans. Do you honestly think Samtorum meant anything he said,
With Romney, the Republicans don't have a prayer in November. Google "Romney Flip Flop for a slideshow of Romney saying contrary things to differenet audiences? Who is the real Romney.
Ask the American workers he likes to fire (ie Dymanic Steel), the Ameicans whose Pensions Funds he raided and whose money he squirreled off to tax havens like Romney's Swiss Banks and his MORMON Temple, And hey, that hard working Mrs Romney looks great in that Cayman Island Tan eh!

ok Newt let's go over this again...you are NOT going to get the GOP nomination, you are NOT or EVER going to be President of the United States, your approval rating makes GW Bush look like gold, not many people like you, you have made the folks at FoxNews mad because you called them out on their coverage of Romney moreso than you, and let's face it people are tired and bored with your ego trip. Go sale some books with Calista to the folks that are dumb enough to buy them so you can keep from bouncing checks and help pay that Tiffinay's account down.

I think Santorum's supporters should support Ron Paul. Dr. Paul is the only candidate that shares similar issues that Santorum had. Sure there were some variations in views but he is more similar to Santorum than Romney and Gingrich. And the reason why I like Dr. Paul is because he is the quintessential example of a politician both looking out for and representing the people just like our founding fathers intended.
