Nugent threatens death if Obama wins in November

(CNN) – Rocker Ted Nugent did little to quell his reputation as a conservative firebrand through comments at the National Rifle Association convention when he took aim (pun intended) at high profile members of the Barack Obama administration and voiced support for presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

The Romney-backer, musician, activist, NRA board member and tea party figure encouraged an NRA audience over the weekend to help oust the current administration.

"If Barack Obama becomes the president in November again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year," Nugent said, according to a video posted on YouTube by the NRA. "If you can't go home and get everybody in your lives to clean house in this vile, evil America hated administration, I don't even know what you're made out of."

He accused the government of "wiping its ass with the Constitution you're living under a rock some place" and labeled members of the Obama administration, including the vice president, attorney general and secretary of state "criminals."

"We need to ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November. Am I, any questions?" Nugent said.

This is not the first time Nugent has vividly espoused his views. In fact, the NRA has a section of its website devoted to some of his statements, including profanity-laced comments and threats directed at then candidates Obama and Hillary Clinton during the last election cycle.

Responding to the comments from Nugent, who announced his support for the former Massachusetts governor in March, Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul said "Divisive language is offensive no matter what side of the political aisle it comes from."

"Mitt Romney believes everyone needs to be civil," she added.

Saul's reaction followed a call from Democratic National Committee Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz to denounce the remarks. Wasserman Schultz sent out an email to supporters on Tuesday to solicit donations off the comments she called "despicable, deplorable and completely beyond the pale."

"Romney's surrogates should know better than to rally the troops with outrageous rhetoric that is unacceptable in our political debate," the Florida representative said in a statement. "Mitt Romney must condemn Nugent's violent and hateful rhetoric immediately, as it has no place in our political discourse or this campaign."

Nugent says he will either be dead or in jail if Obama wins in November. I'm pretty much OK with either of those options, so what's his point? If Obama wins, Nugent will either commit suicide or be killed commiting a crime or be in jail for comitting a crime. Other than feeling regret for any innocents that might get hurt by Nugent's actions, what are we supposed to think about this idiot's future plans or his rants?

This is EXACTLY what the Tea Party and NRA need to fix their reputation as angry, inflexible nut jobs. The independent voters are sure to vote GOP now. Way to go, Nuge! Now go off to Texas and kill you some lions!

Where was Nugent when the Bush Crime Family was in the White House wiping their A$$ with the constiution??? Illegal eves dropping. torture of prisoners. A war created on ficticious facts. The lowering of taxes while increasing spending through War and Medicare part E donut hole. The deregulation of private banks to create sub-prime mortgages. Bush created the TARP funds to bail out the banks. where was he? Was he there applauding Obama when he signed a new law that allows you to bring hand guns into national parks? Was he there applauding when Obama removed all combat troops from Iraq? Oh that's right, the GOP doesn't like living in reality.

@ Imerr No, he doesn't. Another failed attempt at false equivalency. Maher (at least spell his name correctly) says lots of things that could be deemed offensive, but he never uses violent rhetoric. He's very good at pointing this out weekly on his show which you obviously do not watch.

I would go burn all my Ted Nugent albums right now, if only Ted Nugent ever put out any albums I deemed worth buying.

"If Barack Obama becomes the president in November again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year," Nugent said, What kind of shiit is this? This is ridiculous and deplorable and this man should be immediately arrested. Yet the righwingers stand by and listen to this vile rhetoric and say nothing.

    Shove off Ted, you're worthless.
Here's hoping you get your wish of Obama re-elected and you dead or in jail by next April...

Ted Nugent represents everything wrong with the far right extremes & Romney's weakness to condemn its hateful rhetoric.

Mitt's silence only exposes his lack of leadership enabling Nugent, Limbaugh, West, et al.
    Sad.

This is precisely why I'm not a member of the NRA. Growing up in Texas during the 50s and 60s, I learned to both respect and enjoy shooting. Still do, and I own a number of long arms and hand guns. I do admit that the NRA has done some good work with respect to hunter safety and general firearms safety, but the far right wing stance on not just gun ownership but other far right wing social issues keeps me from joining. My sons and their friends who also shoot and own firearms feel the same way. Tone it down NRA, be an advocate of legal firearm ownership, stop the war on the rest of us. Thanks

Too bad that Ted Nugent has delt the Republicans with yet another scene that the Republicans do not need. Why do these people come out of the woodwork to damage a brand they supposedly support. I mean, any idiot will tell you that making threats to the administration will get you in trouble and make the Republicans seem like a hateful group. Do we REALLY want that ? Why does Ted need his 15 minutes of fame this way.
Is there any REpublican out there that says or does anything that doesn't embarass the Brand ?
Can someone do some good positive things to allevate the brand – to change people's minds, to get votes ? This is more difficult to do than hot air that lands you in jail and then what ? You get well known for being an idiot that didn't know any better and where does that get you ? Think about it Ted.

I guess he changed careers in his old age from musician to comedian. This stuff is too funny. No one with half a brain would take this seriously. He is like the crazy old uncle everyone has in there family. They just let him talk, everyone nods and laugh behind his back.

Seriouly Ted? What you makes you think anyone cares if a has-been like you offs himself? Put another way, why would a democrat like myself want to suddenly vote against Obama just to preserve the life of a loser like you?

I realize you are old, but don't you think you should grow up about now?

Hmm, I seem to recall The New Black Panthers and Louis Farrakhan giving some equally radical speeches lately regarding violence towards whites. I don't remember reading anything about that on this blog. Oh, I get it! Nugent is a Republican. That's the difference.

Given that he has made statements in concerts recently where he calls for the President's head to be blown off with a machine gun, I don't see why this should be a surprise or why he hasn't been charged with the class D felony of which this offense is punishable.
