Nugent threatens death if Obama wins in November

(CNN) – Rocker Ted Nugent did little to quell his reputation as a conservative firebrand through comments at the National Rifle Association convention when he took aim (pun intended) at high profile members of the Barack Obama administration and voiced support for presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

The Romney-backer, musician, activist, NRA board member and tea party figure encouraged an NRA audience over the weekend to help oust the current administration.

"If Barack Obama becomes the president in November again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year," Nugent said, according to a video posted on YouTube by the NRA. "If you can't go home and get everybody in your lives to clean house in this vile, evil America hated administration, I don't even know what you're made out of."

He accused the government of "wiping its ass with the Constitution you're living under a rock some place" and labeled members of the Obama administration, including the vice president, attorney general and secretary of state "criminals."

"We need to ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November. Am I, any questions?" Nugent said.

This is not the first time Nugent has vividly espoused his views. In fact, the NRA has a section of its website devoted to some of his statements, including profanity-laced comments and threats directed at then candidates Obama and Hillary Clinton during the last election cycle.

Responding to the comments from Nugent, who announced his support for the former Massachusetts governor in March, Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul said "Divisive language is offensive no matter what side of the political aisle it comes from."

"Mitt Romney believes everyone needs to be civil," she added.

Saul's reaction followed a call from Democratic National Committee Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz to denounce the remarks. Wasserman Schultz sent out an email to supporters on Tuesday to solicit donations off the comments she called "despicable, deplorable and completely beyond the pale."

"Romney's surrogates should know better than to rally the troops with outrageous rhetoric that is unacceptable in our political debate," the Florida representative said in a statement. "Mitt Romney must condemn Nugent's violent and hateful rhetoric immediately, as it has no place in our political discourse or this campaign."

    @Really obvious points and questions

How come this is the top of the political ticker 6 hours later?
Oh right, b/c CNN wants you to think Mr. Nugent represents the majority of republicans

Have denounced the NRA and Ted Nugent – a domestic terrorist? I don't see Mittens coming out strongly against the comments. Maybe this is a representation of the modern Republican.

When were gun rights revoked? The Second Amendment stands and always will. This paranoid fool panders to a small but crazy part of America that is in need of medications. We dont need any more Timothy McVeighs or Jared Loughners to go off and do something stupid. Very foolish and ignorant rant there Ted.

Fact is Nugent thinks he commands the respect of youth and he lives as though he is still a rock and roll icon. He is recognized for what he is though; a petty, cruel, and pathetic old man.

I wonder if Romney will use one of Nugent's trailer-park anthems as his theme song at the Convention?

Soon, you'll be asked to declare your alligence to the furor. Seems like if threats were made, then jail time is in the offing, and whether NRA approved or not, the person needs to do time. Nugent needs to be a test case?

NO EXCUSES and NO HIDING the fact the this vile rhetoric is tolerated by the GOP. The weak response from the Romney campaign is a sign of it. And to think this person wants to be the President of the UNITED STATES. Are you kidding me? BOYCOTT Nugent, the NRA, FOX, and ROMNEY. No support – no vote – nothing until there is respect from the GOP.

Nugent should kill himself if Obama wins. It will be a win win we'll have Obama for another 4 years and we won't have to here Nugent's ugly and divisive rhetoric.

Gotta say Ted may have a point about the administration but really he should only think it – NOT say it aloud! Dictators usually do chop off heads. Ted is NO MORE nuts than Wasserman-Schultz or "Pass it to see what's in it" & The Tea Party is Astroturf" Pelosi, or Maxine "The Tea Party Can Go Straight To Hell" Waters. Ted is NOT an elected politician – the others I just mentioned are! Libs MUST be voted out of office and into the unemployment lines all across these fruited plains. GO MITT GO! If you think Ted is nuts then look at Alec Baldwin who supports Obama – he's nuts too.

Come on Republicans–do you really need to give me more reasons to vote for Obama? You seem to come up with a new one a week. Now, a nut case promises to disappear if I do? Really?

The GOP does stand for Guaranteeing Obama Presidency. And when liberals spoke against Bush they were labeled as Terrorist and anti-American. Now since Nugent speak violence against Obama its free Speech. And they made a big deal over what was said about Miss Romney not having a Job. Yes it must be hard raising kids while you have to go check on your other homes and make sure your house keepers are all paid. While alot of american moms have to work two jobs just to take care of her kids.

Unbelievable. Mitt Romney actively sought Ted Nugent's endorsement. And after these disgusting comments, Nugent said on The Dana Show today that he stands by his speech adding, "Mitt Romney knows what I'm saying is true."

Romney then hid behind a spokesperson instead of having the courage himself to personally admonish these reprehensible comments. That is not leadership.

Meh. At least he'd be catching up with his career which died ages ago. How this talentless hack ever got where he is is beyond me. About the most entertaining think he could possibly do would be self inflicted euthanasia. Perhaps he will do it live, onstage. Then he would be a two hit wonder.

Gee..a Democratic pundant says Mrs. Romney is not qualified to speak for working women on the economy...and there's 5 days of Republican "thrashing about" to make hay and convert the women's vote? Now THIS guy...who says he'll be "dead or in jail" (presumably because he'll take "executive action" against the Obama administration if Obama wins) and NOTHING out of the Republican Party. I guess they can SPIN BS but can't take it?

Of CNN is pandering to their boy Obama. Nugent is not threatening the president or anyone else. He is talking about himself being dead. Anyone with an IQ above 20 and the most basic grasp of the english language understands that.

He has always been nuts. I saw him with the Amboy Dukes in maybe '69 or '70. The show was cancelled mid-performance after Nugent pointed his stupid bow and arrow at policemen who were trying to keep a mass of fans from rushing the stage. He was arrested, but not before trying to incite the crowd to riot and finally giving out his hotel room to the crowd as he was led off the stage. He acted then and still acts today like some spoiled, schoolyard brat who is going to hold his breath until he gets his way. Turn blue, Ted.
