On Gingrich, Cain jumps ship for Romney

(CNN) – Once the dynamic duo, Herman Cain has dropped his support for Newt Gingrich, saying on Monday it was time for the GOP presidential candidate to abandon his quest for more delegates.

"To Newt Gingrich I would say, 'Speaker Gingrich, with all due respect, let's get on with this, OK?'" the former White House hopeful said in a radio interview with WMAL in Washington.

He added: "I even endorsed Newt Gingrich at one point because I thought he had a shot. Well, not now. He doesn't have a shot."

He now says he will support the presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney.

Cain announced his official support for Gingrich January 28, nearly two months after suspending his campaign. At the time, Gingrich had surged ahead in the GOP horse race after winning the South Carolina primary, but was facing a bitter fight against Romney ahead of Florida's contest.

At an event announcing his endorsement in the Sunshine State, Cain said he was backing Gingrich because the former speaker's policies most closely lined up with his own.

"Speaker Gingrich is not afraid of bold ideas, and I also know that Speaker Gingrich is running for president and going through this sausage grinder. I know what this sausage grinder is all about. I know that he is going through this sausage grinder because he cares about the future of the United States of America," Cain said in January.

Days later, Gingrich came in second place to Romney in Florida, marking a turning point in the former speaker's campaign that took him back down in the polls.

On Monday, Cain said Gingrich has yet to regain ground in the race and expressed he was ready to stand with another one of his former rivals and the all-but-certain Republican nominee.

"With all the criticism that other opponents during the Republican primary have thrown at him, (Romney) is still better than Barack Obama," Cain said. "So I will still support Mitt Romney."

Gingrich, meanwhile, has repeatedly maintained he'll stay in the race until Romney clinches the 1,144 delegates needed to secure the nomination.

  1. Really obvious points and questions

    Agreed.

The fun and games are over. Time to focus on the real mission here, removing the Obaminal failure of the last four years.

Then again the best candidate for the job, Hillary, won't get up the brass ones to resign and do what's right for the country, run and defeat OFailure in a party race.

Nice guy, that Cain guy.. He wants to be your buddy when you're sitting on top of the polls, rolling in the dough. Perfectly timed, too. Just when Adelson pulls up stakes, so does Cain. Just when Adelson resettles with Romney, so does Cain. Just when Romney tells him to get lost, so does Cain.

Republicans will not get the white house this year in 2016 or 2020, they need to rebuild their image first.

And we still have the unreported (at least in the liberal mainstream media) of Debby Wasserman Schultz shrilly hounding Romeny to release his tax return, but refusing to release her own. Very flagrant democrat liberal hypocrisy, aided and abetted by the liberally biased mainstream media.

Well, you can see who's ship is sinking. Maybe Cain is trying to get a cabinet post if Romney is elected. He could be Secretary of FDA and give out coupons for fast food places instead of food stamps.
