Romney cites 'vast left wing conspiracy'

(CNN) – Speaking to a right wing radio host Tuesday, likely GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney repurposed a phrase from Hillary Clinton, citing a "vast left wing conspiracy" brewing in the media and liberal advocacy organizations to derail his campaign.

Romney was making an appearance on Breitbart TV and was asked by host Larry O'Connor whether he was ready to take on "the media and these nonprofits groups that are working together."

"There will be an effort by the quote vast left wing conspiracy to work together to put out their message and to attack me," Romney said in response. "They're going to do everything they can to divert from the message people care about, which is a growing economy that creates more jobs and rising incomes. That's what people care about."

Romney's choice of words echoes Clinton's assertion in 1998 that a "vast right wing conspiracy" was behind the sexual harassment charges her husband, former President Bill Clinton, was facing at the time.

"I mean, look at the very people who are involved in this – they have popped up in other settings," Clinton, now the U.S. secretary of state, said on NBC's "Today" in 1998. "This is – the great story here for anybody willing to find it and write about it and explain it is this vast right-wing conspiracy that has been conspiring against my husband since the day he announced for president."

Romney said dealing with journalists, many of whom he said were biased, was a perpetual problem for Republicans.

"Many in the media are inclined to do the president's bidding and I know that's an uphill battle we fight with the media generally," Romney said, before praising O'Connor for offering a conservative voice.

The candidate said he was unfazed by the prospect of doing battle with the left's vast operation.

"Democrats know that given the president's record over the last three years they cannot run on that record," Romney said. "They will make this race about anything but the president's record and the economy."

It is scary to the average American how insane Obama supporters are. The man in their eyes can do no wrong. As a life long supporter of moderates, Mitt will probably get my vote. I am generally scared of the rise of the Reich

Wow, nothing makes the left-wing loons crazier than saying there is left-wing media bias and it's rampant.

Look at Fox, Look at Fox as if ONE station out 6 that swings left is anything. THese people are so insecure they can't even handle ONE station that is 180 degrees out of phase with their line of thinking.

Did Obama or ANY Democrats go on Fox during the 2008 primary? Denis Kucinich was the ONLY one brave enough to go into "The enemy's den" Of course liberals love to talk to Iran and balk at calling NKorea part of the axis of evil but for some reason have no problem calling Fox the enemy, and calling Republicans taliban and not wanting their elected officials to "bargain" with said Republicans.

Just goes to show you their mentality.

McCain finally realized that no matter what you do, when you decide to run against a Democrat for President you will be hated by the media and not given fair treatment.

    Many in the media?

The classic understatement of our time.

So are all you "commenters" saying that the entire media is unbiased? Is that what you mean by all your negative comments?

Economy that hasn't gotten better, gaffe after gaffe, deficit through the roof, a DOJ that works with the Black Panthers, fighting a war in Afghanistan with no clear mission. Now, for some positives.... hang on I'll get back to you libs on that one.

Miitt Romney has a visceral nasty side to his character - you can't lie to people's faces the way he did at Bain Capital – constantly, or as he did as a Mormon missionary in France while others his age were in Vietnam - without it.

Sometimes, I wonder if the people who avoided the draft like Cheney, John Bolton, Newt Gingrich, Paul Wolfowitz, Limbaugh, and others have unconsciously been trying to prove they're real men ever since they avoided going to combat in Vietnam – by making up for it ever since with their agressiveness and cutthroat ways ever since.

    Just an observation...

    What's the alternative?

Barack Chavez, who's proven himself to be 100% incompetent?

I'll take Mitt any day over the current lunatic who hasn't the slightest clue how the economy works.

Next, if he doesn't get elected, perhaps he'll claim it's because of a vast conspiracy of anti-Romney voters. (Dang voters!)

Are any of you insult spewing moon bats able to debate in the arena of ideas? If so, refute Mitt. Use facts and not personal attacks. Are you able? I think some of you can... Just pucker up and try.

The media is so far in the tank for Obama they can't see daylight. NBC especially. Wanna fudge those unemployment numbers? Go ahead! We won't call you on it! Fast and furious? Never heard of it! etc. etc.

Gotta laugh at the ad hominem attacks from the liberals. When someone has spoken the truth, that's about all the left has.

When you are on the wrong side of abortion, free speech, free enterprise, individual freedoms, diversity (try being diverse around a bunch of liberals and you will find out what the word intolerance means), equal rights, religious freedom, defending our country, equal opportunity for women (see White House average salaries), equal opportunity for education, right to work, securing our borders, and the list goes on, you are probably a Democrat.

Mitt is to far to the left for my taste. But he is right on on this issue.

It is indisputable that the media is overwhelmingly left wing. There are a few exceptions, but only a few.

Obama's record in office is abysmal. Record debt. Record deficits. Stagnating economy. Job-killing overregulation. Fraudulent claims of job creation. Billions in dollars wasted on investments in companies owned by donors, where all the money is lost when said companies go bankrupt. In foriegn policy, weakness, the undercutting of friiends, and submission to enemies. That's only the start of a list that could go on practically endlessly.

He is, far and away, the worst president in my lifetime, and I go back to Kennedy.

The media is going to do everything in its power to take the focus off Obama's abysmal record, and distract the American voters from Obama's abysmal record. Just watch.

Romney is right! For years, the MSM has been tilted left, openly and subliminally supporting democrat causes and candidates. Nothing's changed this time around. Even with a President whose record is absolutely abysmal, and if given four more years will bring about greater economic decline, the same liberal anti-American left-wing will make excuses and line-up to be his martyrs!

Keep making excuses. The eviction takes place this November!

Interesting comments from all the liberals that cannot seem to recall ANY of the promises that Obama made yet has failed to deliver. But this is CNN after all. -Oh, I forgot, he promised to "change" America, and has done a stellar job at that...doing everything in his power to turn it into "just another nation" as opposed to the Beacon on a Hill. Socialism anybody? Oh, let's not rule out the race card that he carries, and has used to divide a nation -easily setting things back 20-30 years...
There is the other promise that he made, that was to get his children a puppy once elected. So he is not a complete liar after all.
It is simply amazing that there is ANYONE that still believes in this moron. He did nothing with a complete control of both houses of congress, but still blamed the GOP. That should have been the first clue that he is a HACK.

What is he talking about? The media is so fair its ridiculous, I mean just look at the last election at how hard ABC, NBC, CNN, etc scrutinized Obama, vetting him so thoroughly! Oh sure, we never got to see his grades, papers he wrote, or any of that, and so what if we never really heard any tough questions about his lack of leadership experience, it still seemed so fair, right? It's not like the media was any harder on Palin or anything.

Way to go Mitt. You are great and you must keep attacking the lunatic left. The liberals all think that they are so smart.
That's not the case, rather they are infected by the intelligentsia disease, brains that are missing the common sense gene.
I have never met a group of more angry, bitter, unhappy, hateful, jealous, bigoted people in my life. Mitt is too perfect and that incenses the losers on the left because they can't achieve anything positive. All they can do is tear down and complain. It's time for a positive change and get America prosperous again and it takes a prosperous man to do it.
Not a community agitator who knows only one thing, how to tear things down. BHO's doing a good job at
ruining America and it's time to stop his nonsense and get back to the America we once knew.
Mitt's positive message will win in a landslide.
