(CNN) - A Pennsylvania bakery is making light of comments made by Mitt Romney on Tuesday, when he compared a batch of cookies from the mom-and-pop store to snacks found at 7-eleven.
After his remarks rippled across the Bethel Park community outside of Pittsburgh, the 57-year-old bakery on Wednesday began offering a 'CookieGate' special: Buy a dozen, get a half-dozen free.

"I'm sure he meant it all in jest and didn't mean to slam a local bakery," Julie Lytle, the bakery's spokeswoman, said. "It's nothing that we want to get really upset about it, no reason to be angry. We're just having fun with it."
The small town stir began Tuesday at a community center event when Romney paused to take note of the desserts while sitting down at a picnic table.
"I'm not sure about these cookies. They don't look like you made them," Romney said to the woman sitting next to him "No, no. They came from the local 7-eleven, bakery, or whatever."
The comments quickly spread on Twitter, with some pointing to the remarks as an example of Romney being out of touch to the point of confusing 7-11 with a bakery.
Lytle said local media have turned out in droves in the last 24 hours, asking about the remarks, as well as members of the community wanting to take part in the 'CookieGate' special.
"We donated about five dozen cookies to the community center for the event yesterday," she said. "We didn't think it was going to turn into such a big ordeal."
The bakery has not heard from the Romney campaign in the ensuing hype, Lytle said.
"We'd love for him to come in and taste one."
Also on Wednesday, a spokeswoman for 7-Eleven weighed in on Romney's cookie remarks, saying he was correct to believe the bakery products could have come from one of their stores.
"Mitt Romney was right in thinking the cookies at a Pennsylvania event Tuesday could have come from a 7-Eleven bakery," Margaret Chabris, director of corporate communications for 7-Election, said. "More than 5,500 7-Eleven stores in the U.S. get cookies, donuts, muffins and other bakery items made fresh daily by 14 bakeries across the country that were developed for the purpose of serving 7-Eleven stores daily (365 days a year)."
