Romney: Obama should 'suck it up'

(CNN) - Mitt Romney drew new contrasts with President Barack Obama on Wednesday by targeting the president's fondness for golf and vacations with his family.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee said Obama's golf trips make him "scratch his head."

"I must admit, I scratch my head at the capacity of the president to take four hours off on such a regular basis to go golfing," Romney told WLW Radio in Cincinnati, responding to a question about the president's hobbies. "I would think you could kind of suck it up for four years particularly when the American people are out of work."

When asked about vacations taken by the Obama family, who travel to the president's native Hawaii annually, Romney said his family would not use four or eight years in the White House to "see the world." Instead, the former Massachusetts governor said he would frequent Camp David, the presidential retreat in the Catoctin Mountain Park of Frederick County, Maryland.

"I think one of the great resources that the president enjoys is Camp David," Romney said, after the host referenced a recent trip by Obama's eldest daughter Malia to Mexico. "I would anticipate if I were fortunate enough to become elected president that I'd be spending some time at Camp David, and my family and I would not be jetting around the world and using four years in office to see the world."

Obama has admittedly not used the grounds as much as his predecessors but is scheduled to host the G-8 summit there in May.

"Somebody pointed out that I hadn't had any of my counterparts, who I've worked with now for three years, up to Camp David," Obama told reporters in March. "I think that the weather should be good that time of year."

Team Obama did not immediately respond to a request for comment following Romney's interview.

    "Bush is ANCIENT histoty"

Maybe Bush is ancient "histoty" to you, but he's recent history to anyone paying attention to why America is so corrupted by predatory capitalists.

I love how all these GOP'ers talk so much trash about the only guy who is actually trying to save our country from the conservative fiscal policies of the past 13 years. Where was the GOP the past 13 years when this country was being driven into the ground; Oh I forgot, the GOP were the ones doing the digging.

What does Romney have to say about all of Bush's trips to Crawford TX? They took up way more time than Obama's occasional vacations. And as we all know, he's not really on vacation anyway. Do you seriously think he's not working the whole time anyway? If you don't think so, you're clueless.

This lying wonder needs to shut up! He's got nerve to say what another man should or shouldn't do is preposterous at best! The President had better get some rest and relaxation or keep working around the clock and explode! Romney has said ALL the right things to ensure the President's Re-Election, keep talking fool! Whereis Palin now to accuse Romney of "Paling" around with terrorists? When Ted Nugent has openly threatend the POTUS, oh we forgot he endorsed her too! Got to love it!

the obama admin is just like the GSA. he makes up fake events so he can charge the tax payers for his campaign instead of the DNC. Just like the GSA would hold fake competitions so the tax payers could pay.

Did verybody hear Obama's comments when he was in Columbia? How he and Michelle like to scout out these places while they are there for potential future vacation spots?! I have a feeling that after he gets tossed this November, Obama will be costing us even MORE as he jaunts around the world giving paid speeches, while his Secret Service detail protects him.

A pretty bold comment coming from someone whose party took a powder in November 2008 and has done nothing constructive since.

Hey real American, it was more than just a couple of hundred miles, it was a trip from Massachusetts to Canada!!!! The dog got sick and Mitt just hosed him off and threw him back up on top of the car again...he was not stopping for anything! The dog then ran away just as soon as they got to Canada.

So Mitt-I don't have a job because I can live on the interest-Romney has been on vacation for how many years-so he would find the Presidentcy 24/7 job too hard and would probably fire himself

Do you all want our wonderful country to become another bankrupted Greece? If President Obama keeps us on this spending track you then will wake up and say, "Oh we should have voted for someone else!"

He tells the president to "start packing" now he's telling him where and when to take vacations. Can't wait to see what nonsense he will spew during the debates.

  18. Just Say No to Flipper Rmoney

"To those who criticize Romney for allowing his Dog to ride on the roof of his car for a few hundred miles this is only an issue because the dog got sick this dog was not loose on the roof he was in a protective cage strapped down very tight and Romney has already said the Dog loved fresh air"

It's bad enough that a psychopath like Rmoney would try to defend his cruelty to a family pet, in a way it's even sicker that someone unrelated to the event would try to defend a psychopath like Rmoney for political reason. Virtually all dogs love fresh air. Virtually no dogs want to ride in a crate strapped to the roof of a car going highway speeds. Do you really need a poll to know this is true and Rmoney is lying through his greasy snake-oil selling teeth?

    from cbsnews.com –

"So far, President Obama has taken 61 vacation days after 31 months in office. At this point in their presidencies, George W. Bush had spent 180 days at his ranch where his staff often joined him for meetings. And Ronald Reagan had taken 112 vacation days at his ranch. Among recent presidents, Bill Clinton took the least time off - 28 days."

Nice try, Romney. Keep spinning while Obama keeps winning...

Clearly the repub do not have any real issues with Obama other than his color. A few days ago it was something about dogs and eating vs. letting get ride on top of the car. Today is about vacations – Lord have mercy! Millions of Americans have been out of work over a year and some over two years and some over three years; so, lets talk about getting them back to work and forget about dogs and vacation time. Each day tens of thousands of Americans are denied medical care because they cannot afford it, let's talk about being humane to our own fogetting about dogs and R&R. Each day US military personnel face danger in I do not know how many hot spots around the world; let bring them home and drop the dogs for a decade or more.

So where was Mittons every time that Bush II took off to dig divots? Once again Romney shows that he and FACTS don't even share a casual relationship. At 31 months into the presidency Bush II had taken 225 days and Obama had taken.........wait for it........a WHOPPING 70 days. Like all the Republi-can'ts of late, Romney has to resort to LIES AND DISTORTIONS to come up with a message, any message, because HE HAS NOTHING ELSE TO OFFER. Lyin' sack of...

I suppose this is the Republican way of trying to make Romney seem more like a "regular guy" instead of the product of a very privileged life. The President's location at any particular time is hardly relevant to the job. President's can't ever "take off" completely and as far as golf or basketball is concerned, if it helps a President to be active, so what?

Really, if this is the best Romney can do who need him?

"Do you seriously think he's not working the whole time anyway? If you don't think so, you're clueless."

Correct, and again to be fair, so were past presidents for the most part. This vacation nonsense, like the "POTUS can directly effect gas prices" nonsense, is another one of those perrenial talking points the opposition party drops like a hot dooky on the political discourse when it's POTUS election season. It's consistently sensationalized by the press and their bases consistently and excitedly sniff it.
