Ted Nugent to be interviewed by Secret Service

(CNN) – Ted Nugent, the rocker whose comments about President Barack Obama have come under scrutiny, will be interviewed by agents with the Secret Service, a U.S. official said Wednesday.

The interview, scheduled for Thursday, comes amid outcry over comments Nugent made at the annual meeting of the National Rifle Association, which took place in St. Louis this past weekend.

"If Barack Obama becomes the president in November again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year," Nugent said, according to a video posted on YouTube by the NRA. "If you can't go home and get everybody in your lives to clean house in this vile, evil, America-hating administration, I don't even know what you're made out of."

Many have questioned whether Nugent was alluding to violence against the president in his remarks.

U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, solicited donations from supporters using the comments, calling them "despicable, deplorable and completely beyond the pale."

In a radio interview Wednesday, Nugent said he was looking forward to meeting with the agents.

"We actually have heard from the Secret Service, and they have a duty, and I salute them, I support them," Nugent said on Glenn Beck's radio show. "I'm looking forward to our meeting tomorrow. I'm sure it'll be a fine gathering backstage in Oklahoma."

The U.S. official said the Secret Service would not issue a statement, nor publicly provide details of what transpires during the interview, after the meeting with Nugent.

The official said Secret Service policy is to acknowledge every American's right to free speech while still determining an individual's intent.

Nugent, like any interviewee, is allowed to bring a lawyer.

Nugent's comments sparked particular furor because the musician and activist has endorsed GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Romney campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul responded to comments from Nugent on Tuesday, saying "divisive language is offensive no matter what side of the political aisle it comes from."

"Mitt Romney believes everyone needs to be civil," she added.

Can't this guy shut up? He is hurting the right more than helping the cause.

The NRA believes if Barack Obama is elected again, he will pass legislature that will require all Americans to give up every handgun and rifle they own. As a member of the NRA, Nugent was responding to this idea, in saying that he would "dead or in jail." All he meant was that with his large collection that he didn't want to give up, he'd either be shot or placed in jail.

It's really not the big deal everyone is making. It was a threat to the President, and only idiots believe any member of the NRA would support the harm of any American politican.

I love to hunt and fish also, but I think Nugent went overboard, he is starting to sound like a idiot, I do not need him to tell the world that the President isn't good at what he is doing, Well I do not see nugent doing anything better, but just taught,. With what President Obama had to deal with coming into office,. this country was in really bad shape, with all Nugent,s republican buddies most likely part of the problelm living high off the hog, what do you think he was going to do, snap his fingers and all the problems was going to go away, but now you may have to pay some of those taxes that you should of done along time ago. too bad, pray that you still do not have to work, just sit down and listen to some of that lousy music you beed doing for years, you are not one of me,. you think that other phone Romney is going to do better, what you been smoking you creep

All he needs is a bumpersticker threatening the President's life and he could be a mainstream Republican.

Ted probably has a new CD coming out. His politics have just gotten weirder and weirder. First he's guitarist in a stoner band (Amboy Dukes) and playing on a decidedly liberal record. Years later we find him to the right of Rush Limbaugh. I don't know if it was the early drugs or the result of venereal diseases (Cat Scratch Fever, etc.) that has apparently atrophied his brain. Now, we have a crazy guy with guns and an agenda. That's everyone's idea of what the US needs more of... crazy people with automatic weapons.

Jail Ted Nugent. I'm sorry I bought one of his albums in '76 when I was 15. I have since shattered it to bits. What a flippin' LOSER!

Ted Nugent, like many in the entertainment business should stay out of politics until they grow up. (Tim Thomas, you listening?)

It's hard to reconcile the old "Great White Buffalo" Ted with the new, statist, corporate toady Ted. He can't see past the billfold, and it's sad. Yes indeed.

Ted Nugent is a has been rocker and frankly never really talented. Now you can add "ignorant" to his resume. This fool has lost his mojo if he has to bring a gun to the party. He should switch to ED drugs because thats appears to be what he needs.

The right winged dooms day saying of America and obstructionism is epic. Every thing this president tries to do, especially of taking our dependance off dirty oil, and on clean energy, have been blocked by the right. Their demogogging of this president and this country's future is epic and unheard of in this nations history. Where is the optimism this country use to have. The repubs 24 hour demogoggry of this president and consumer confidence. I am still in unbeleif how this country came so far, with this constant repubs obstructionism.
