Ted Nugent to be interviewed by Secret Service

(CNN) – Ted Nugent, the rocker whose comments about President Barack Obama have come under scrutiny, will be interviewed by agents with the Secret Service, a U.S. official said Wednesday.

The interview, scheduled for Thursday, comes amid outcry over comments Nugent made at the annual meeting of the National Rifle Association, which took place in St. Louis this past weekend.

"If Barack Obama becomes the president in November again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year," Nugent said, according to a video posted on YouTube by the NRA. "If you can't go home and get everybody in your lives to clean house in this vile, evil, America-hating administration, I don't even know what you're made out of."

Many have questioned whether Nugent was alluding to violence against the president in his remarks.

U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, solicited donations from supporters using the comments, calling them "despicable, deplorable and completely beyond the pale."

In a radio interview Wednesday, Nugent said he was looking forward to meeting with the agents.

"We actually have heard from the Secret Service, and they have a duty, and I salute them, I support them," Nugent said on Glenn Beck's radio show. "I'm looking forward to our meeting tomorrow. I'm sure it'll be a fine gathering backstage in Oklahoma."

The U.S. official said the Secret Service would not issue a statement, nor publicly provide details of what transpires during the interview, after the meeting with Nugent.

The official said Secret Service policy is to acknowledge every American's right to free speech while still determining an individual's intent.

Nugent, like any interviewee, is allowed to bring a lawyer.

Nugent's comments sparked particular furor because the musician and activist has endorsed GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Romney campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul responded to comments from Nugent on Tuesday, saying "divisive language is offensive no matter what side of the political aisle it comes from."

"Mitt Romney believes everyone needs to be civil," she added.

Utterly disgusting as usual Nugent, give a guy a guitar and suddenly he's a God of stupid. I'm an NRA member and if this is what we can expect from this group........ I just resigned after being a member for 22 years.

By being able to go and clean house in this vile america, i take that as voting him and this administrtion out of office.
by being dead if he is elected again,,he likely means his spirit will be dead. most people who cant stand obama have their spirtis dampened and down at the thought of him being re elected.

By posting Nugent's words on the NRA website, the NRA is being unpatriotic. Free speech is important but every American needs to stand up against anyone who would threaten the President of the United States. REVOKE your NRA membership NOW!

This loudmouthed, mediocre musician, cowardly draft dodger talks a big game. This isn't the first time he has threatened violence. The rankest one (and it's on video on web, you can search for it)was saying Hilary Clinton (while running for president) should have his automatic weapon shoved up her 'glory hole', and the trigger squeezed. Why this chicken hawk keeps getting air time and not arrested is beyond is beyond me.

With friends like this, Romney doesn't need enemies on the left. Another missed opportunity for Romney to act presidential.

Life does not get lower than Ted Nugent. Hopefully he will be dead next year, but doubt we'll be that lucky. God is merciful of all life, no matter how low. n

Someone needs to calmly explain to this ...guy that the 1st amendmemt quarantee of freedom of speech with it's six exceptions is not absolute, as one who honorably served 8yrs Navy, my late WWII Army Veteran father would say "he's got a screw loose" somewhere. He should be ashamed of his virulent vulgarity and think befor he opens his mouth and show more respect for himself and his country.h

Dixie Chicks got ostracized for saying they were ashamed of George W Bush. Right-wing radio stations banned Dixie Chicks. And here we had a guy threatening to kill the President of the USA and right-wingers claim freedom of speech. What hypocrisy!

Congrats, Teddy Boy! Youve found a way to pretend that youre still relevant!
Now go back to marrying women younger than your youngest daughter, and shooting guns on you lousy, worthless property in Michigan.

Ted is a tough guy when it doesn't matter, when his safety is not at question. He had his opportunity to go play soldier when he was young but opted to dodge the draft. He hasn't said or done a truly courageous thing in his life, unlike Obama who stands behind his words with actions and is in a very real danger of being shot by a lunatic inspired by Ted's rhetoric.

Here we go again!!! The Obama administration attempting to silence freedom of speech merely because someone is unwilling to kiss Mr. Obama's butt (ring). I will bet that if similar comments had been made (which actually were) about President Bush, there would be no brouhaha by the Mr. Obama administration and the reputable Secret Service.

Mr. Obama, you are making a huge mistake by trying to silence the icon that you wish you were. Americans DO NOT have to agree with your stupidity all the time. This is America; there can be honest dissent.
