Ted Nugent to be interviewed by Secret Service

(CNN) – Ted Nugent, the rocker whose comments about President Barack Obama have come under scrutiny, will be interviewed by agents with the Secret Service, a U.S. official said Wednesday.

The interview, scheduled for Thursday, comes amid outcry over comments Nugent made at the annual meeting of the National Rifle Association, which took place in St. Louis this past weekend.

"If Barack Obama becomes the president in November again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year," Nugent said, according to a video posted on YouTube by the NRA. "If you can't go home and get everybody in your lives to clean house in this vile, evil, America-hating administration, I don't even know what you're made out of."

Many have questioned whether Nugent was alluding to violence against the president in his remarks.

U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, solicited donations from supporters using the comments, calling them "despicable, deplorable and completely beyond the pale."

In a radio interview Wednesday, Nugent said he was looking forward to meeting with the agents.

"We actually have heard from the Secret Service, and they have a duty, and I salute them, I support them," Nugent said on Glenn Beck's radio show. "I'm looking forward to our meeting tomorrow. I'm sure it'll be a fine gathering backstage in Oklahoma."

The U.S. official said the Secret Service would not issue a statement, nor publicly provide details of what transpires during the interview, after the meeting with Nugent.

The official said Secret Service policy is to acknowledge every American's right to free speech while still determining an individual's intent.

Nugent, like any interviewee, is allowed to bring a lawyer.

Nugent's comments sparked particular furor because the musician and activist has endorsed GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Romney campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul responded to comments from Nugent on Tuesday, saying "divisive language is offensive no matter what side of the political aisle it comes from."

"Mitt Romney believes everyone needs to be civil," she added.

You know what is really hilarious??? These are the things Nugent is saying at the exact same time that Romney is trying to paint Obama as "divisive." These right wingers have a terminal case of hypocrisy (and other mental illnesses) from which they will probably not recover.

Thank you, Ted, for moving me to contribute real money to the democratic re-election cause. Wasn't going to - but now I have to, because the thought of someone you support winning this election is too horrifying to imagine.

I would give serious thought to putting this guy Nugent in prison - for the good of the country. This isn't "free" speech - this is hate speech - a call to violence and murder and assassination. Nugent is a hate-mongering freakazoid.

Just because a person has the right to do something doesn't mean it should be done. I have the right not to take a bath. I have the right to fart in public. I have the right to be gross and offensive. Freedom doesn't mean its OK to abuse others just because you can get away with it.

Civilization will collapse if our so called rights are pushed to extremes. One big right that no one needs is to stand up in public and threaten to kill the President of the Unite States.

Mr. Nugent's words are just another in a long series of outrageous comments that have been applied when speaking about the President. There are people in this country who have refused to support the President. You only have to read the comments on the social media as well as the comment sections of CNN comments to understand why Mr. Nugent made his comments.. Those who do this go over the top because the rest of us refuse to stand up and say enough already.

Not a Nugent follower, but it sounds to be like he meant go home, get people you know to vote with you - vote out of office those who I dislike and you dislike.

It sounds to me as though he meant go home, get those you know to vote the way we believe which is to vote out of office those who we dislike. It doesn't even remotely sound like a threat to me.

People need to respect the president. It does not matter what color he is. The problem w/this country, there's folks still caught up w/racist. Remember his mom is white so as his grandparents who raised him. I am not white/black and I do not believe in prejudice. My family is like a rainbow. I have all kind of ethnic sister/brother inlaws. So please think before you speak about somebody else. Thank GOD for the way my parents raised us. I know it's freedom of speech in this country but do to others as you want them to do to you. The BIBLE says respect those in authority of us and pray for them. For all the haters out there, I'm always in prayer for the president's protection and for you to have a change of heart. Peace.....

Hopefully the Secret service takes this matter seriously because crazy uncle Ted sure doesn't. I heard him yesterday on Becks show and they were making it out as a big joke. Talking and laughing about how the agents will just be getting some of Teds recipes and BBQ sauce. Then they'll stay and enjoy his show. This whole thing is a joke. Ted, Beck and the rest of the hate throwers on the right know they can say the most vile things and threaten the Government and nothing will happen to them. They should all be in jail. They go way beyond FREE speech..

He should be detained. His threat of violence against the President and others sounded more like I will be dead or in jail because I am going to do it!! The one hit wonder that nobody remembers.
The fifth anniversay of the VT massacre where 32 students and faculty members were killed was this past Monday. What is the new confederate virginia doing this weekend? A gun show. Buy, sell, trade without a background check. Buy that AK47 to go kill squirrels baloney!
