Washington (CNN) – A new national poll offers more evidence that now Mitt Romney's pretty much wrapped up the race for Republican nomination, public opinion of GOP presidential candidate is on the rise. But Romney still lags behind President Barack Obama.
According to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal survey released Thursday, 33% see Romney positively, with 36% viewing the former Massachusetts governor in a negative light. That's better than Romney rated the NBC/WSJ March poll, when he had a 28% positive rating and a 39% negative rating.

A CNN/ORC International survey released Tuesday also indicated that Romney's popularity is starting to rebound now that the divisiveness of the primaries appears to be all but over.
Forty-four percent of people questioned in the CNN survey said they have a favorable view of the former Massachusetts governor, up 10 points from February, during some of the most heated moments of the GOP primaries and caucuses. Forty-three percent said they have an unfavorable opinion of Romney, down 11 points from February. Thirteen percent were unsure.
Both polls were conducted after former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania suspended his bid for the GOP nomination on April 10. Even though former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas continue their long-shot bids for the nomination, Romney is now generally considered the presumptive nominee.
But both polls indicate that while on the rise, Romney's popularity still lags well behind the president's favorable ratings among Americans.
The NBC/WSJ poll was conducted April 13-17, with 1,000 people nationwide questioned by telephone. The survey's overall sampling error is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.

MItt Romney had better ride this wave for it's worth. Folks can only endorse you once. There is an anniversary coming up on May 1, which should give Pres. Obama a ratings boost.
OMG an increase of 4%, whatever.
He will always lag behind President Obama...that is where he is supposed to be
Romney is going to make a GREAT President in 2013. The right man at the right time.
Sorry CNN, but I don't buy your bs of a poll crap for one moment.
Women, blacks, Muslims, gays, probably 2/3 of the middle class, all of the poor (except the rednecks because they are too stuoidmto realize thatnthe teapublikan Taliban are rich and they are not and they just want your vote then go back to yourndouble wide) can't stand him andnhis lies andnhismflip flopping.
Whatbwe are probably seeing here is the fools who are stuck with thismpiece of trash as their candidate. Nits either that or not vote. Even Wallace of McCain fame didn't vote in 2008!
@ Truth – Please change your name. I've never seen anything on here from you that even resemebles the "Truth"!
Romney– He has built his fortune using/risking only other people`s money– never his own. And he even banks off shore and Europe where banking laws either don`t exist or completely free from investigation. ---and this guy "believes in America" ???
I wonder who CNN employes to do their polling because just within the past 4 days the numbers have flipped so up and down and back and forth you really can't take them seriously. Perhaps this is done just to keep the race interesting but I find it hard to believe that folks are saying "I didn't like Romney yesterday bit I like him today" The only poll that really counts is what happens in November. The others even ones with Obama leading by large margins right now are superfilous at best.
Romney will never be president. He is unqualified and too fake...
Obama is going to make a GREAT President in 2013. The right man to continue getting America back on track after the excess of 8 years of Dubya.
Rudy NYC - MItt Romney had better ride this wave for it's worth. Folks can only endorse you once. There is an anniversary coming up on May 1, which should give Pres. Obama a ratings boost.

Yes, May Day, a well known Communist celebration day. Does he have a big military parade scheduled, complete with missiles like his buddy Putin?
Easy for the numbers to go up when there is no one else essentially running . . . This is by default, not design!
well, he is the least odious of a pretty awful bunch...
of course, that still doesn't make him right – err, maybe I should say "correct" – on any issue of substance or qualified to be President in any respect, other than height and hair
Go Romney!
Yea Romney! Can't wait until you and your wife are in the white house!!
Want to see God at work? You will November 6, 2012 as Willard's religion will NEVER enter the White House. Remember I told you so.
Not from me – especially after that interview he and the Mrs. gave to Diane Sawyer. It's their time, it's their turn, like the presidency is a succession and it's their turn. But it is going to be a tight race so everybody vote. Let's not be apathetic like some were in the mid-terms. Look what that got us.
OBAMA/BIDEN/FIRST LADY MICHELLE 2012
Romney wil be our next president in spite of what the lilberal losers want. We cannot have another four years of Comrade Obama in the WH.
Romney WILL never be president. Save your dollars as he is a lost proposition
it's going to be a long wait,
A failed community leader vs a successful businessman.
It would be no contest.., if not for the collaberating news networks.
Whatever happened to Obama`s weak on foreign relations ? We`re basically out of a country we should never have invaded -Iraq, and Osama Bin Ladin was executed by this "weak" DEMOCRATIC President............ Talk about silencing the wagging tongues !!!!! Bush/Cheney conveniently never could corner Osama knowing full well if her were killed or captured, the war was essentially over and we would no longer be able to make a few (1%) extremely wealthy.
The people are seeing Obama for what he really is, the great divider.
These numbers reflect the Rick Sanctimonious voters who have come to grips with the loss of their freaky candidate. So, faced with a choice of Rom-money or Apocalypse (as they would see another Obama term), they now have a favorable opinion of Rom-money. That doesn't mean they'll drag their lard butts off the couch to go vote for him, or that he is really any more popular than he was before.
We all know what he is. It's just that some people haven't realized that Rom-money = Bush.
RealityBites, whats a failed community leader ? You mean failed because he did not raise a lot of money with community service which a successful businessman means he put enough companies in bankruptcy.
What I find funny is people being happy when your likability rating is 33%
