CNN Poll of Polls: All tied up between Obama and Romney

Washington (CNN) - It's basically all knotted up between President Barack Obama and all-but-certain Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, according to an average of the six national surveys conducted entirely after former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania suspended his campaign on April 10.

An updated CNN Poll of Polls compiled and released Thursday indicates that, on average, 47% of registered voters in the six surveys say they back Obama, with 44% supporting Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who is making his second bid for the White House. With Obama's three-point margin over Romney less than the sampling error of the surveys, it's fair to say that the race can be considered a dead heat.

The announcement by Santorum that he was suspending his campaign was widely seen as the moment when the presidential campaign entered a new phase, moving from a primary fight to a general election battle. Even though former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas continue their long-shot bids for the nomination, Romney is now generally considered the presumptive GOP presidential nominee.

The six surveys are from NBC News/Wall Street Journal (April 13-17), Quinnipiac University (April 11-17) CBS News/New York Times (conducted April 13-17), Gallup's daily tracking poll (conducted April 14-18), CNN/ORC International (April 13-15), and Reuters/Ipsos (April 12-15).

As the CNN Poll of Polls is an average of other surveys, there is no sampling error for the results.

Most people have known Obama for years now. How many are just getting to know Romney – and it's a dead heat?!
    Obama should be very nervous.

How can Romney be even CLOSE to President Obama in this so-called poll when Romney has to close a nine percent gap with women voters and virtually a 73% gap with the Latino voters? Try again.

Obama's class warfare strategy is being rejected. His hundreds of millions of dollars will be wasted trying to divide a nation when Romney is uniting. Americans recognize that uniting is what leadership is about.

Wow! folks better wise up or we'll be back where we were when Obama took over, a whisker away from another Great Depression. how on earth can there be so many people who buy the republican line of bull hockey??? their trickle-down theory is proven to be a total failure, for everyone other than multi-millionaires, that is. voting republican is voting for the destruction of the middle class, the economy, the planet, you name it.

I don't think you guys realize that the "average of polls" is literally meaningless. In fact, its worse than meaningless as it will taint the data you're trying to draw conclusions from.

How can any rational voter want a return to the GOP push to crush the middle class in America and divert more wealth to the richest, and therefore most powerful? Obama inherited the worst recession in more than a hundred years (not counting the the Great Depression) and the economy is recovering despite intense GOP obstructionism designed to keep the economy down, But Romney promises more of the same failed trickle-down economic polices as Bush. Slash taxes for the wealthy, gut programs that help middle class and poorer Americans. When will the man on the street understand that another right wing Republican administration run by and for the rich is not in their best interests? Romney made his own money using other people’s money to buy companies, fire the workers, off-shore the production, close pension plans at government expense, and pay himself huge bonuses. Is this who we want as president of the United States ? Only the very wealthy and the brainwashed ignorant would say yes.

Shows just how dumbed down. the masses are. The middle class, the apex of revenue for business, as well government funding keeps voting for their oppressors. In case you're confused, the republicans are not your friends.

When you get into the details of some of these polls it is there you find a lot of walls Romney has to knock down to ensure a win like womens votes Hispanic vote and he is a long way from winning the jobs and economy or debt argument as his or even Ryans budget are too lacking in the detail people, especially independents, want to hear and understand before voting.
Romney raising Obama golf and Hawaii holidays ( Camp David) is a bad replay of the Dems criticising Bush for spending too much time at his ranch. This type of comment was knocked in the head when Obama was first elected and since.
Romney only needs to jump on the birther bad wagon to make his chance even less likely of winning the election assuming he gets nominated.
Oh nearly forgot Condoleeza Rice as his VP!!??
    Regards,
    Hodgson.

America is about to make same mistakes again. For a man who cannot even eat cookies with the average Joe and Jane, it's shocking to even consider Romney as president. He is just used to sharing food and drinks with the likes of Trump and rich folks with offshore bank accounts.

What-evs ... this is only because all the Repubs who can't stomach Mittens are holding their noses and accepting the bitter reality that Mittens will be their nominee. Give it time, and you'll see a lot of them drop off and more Independents move towards President Obama (because they actually think and the FACTS prove that President Obama is moving our country in the right direction, and Mittens would take us back down that hell-hole we've spent the last 3.5 years climbing out of).

These polls don't matter. Its the polls in the 11 states that are up for grabs that matter. We vote state by state not nationally.

Ever notice how the Repubs love to call President Obama a Marxist/Communist whenever the President proposes we the taxpayers invest in education, basic scientific research, infrastructure and energy alternatives here in the United States?

The reality is the GOP's main financial backers are multinational corporations that have no qualms building factories in Communist China, using China's Communist infrastructure, employing Communist labor force and taking Communist government money in the forms of grants. So much for Republicans being "patriotic" ...

When are the Repub voters going to wake up to the reality that they are being manipulated to vote for a party that puts the welfare of its multinational shareholders ahead of the welfare of the United States?
