House passes GOP small business tax cut

Washington (CNN) – The GOP-controlled House of Representatives on Thursday passed a $46 billion small business tax cut bill - an election year measure that has virtually no chance of clearing the Democratic-controlled Senate or surviving a presidential veto.

House members passed the bill in a largely party-line 235-173 vote.

  1. Bill from GA

Maybe they should pass the highway bill and get some more money back into the economy. Plus, our infrastructure needs some fixing!

Cut and spend economics... How'd that work for Bush? This same bunch of radicals won't stop giving welfare to oil companies making huge profits. This is more Tea Party politics.

FINALLY! Something that might actually help small business and the American unemployeed.
Add in the dramatic decrease in pork spending since the 2010 congressional elections and America can clearly see which party is actually representing the average America.

We don’t need tax cut, tax cut won’t help us to expand the business fast and this is election year gimmick we know that
We need low interest rate loans, hard to get personal loan or business loan in low interest

And no corresponding spending cuts or tax hikes. Just a $46 billion giveaway to rich guys who will continue to not hire anyone.

Where are the budget hawks now? How do they plan to pay for it? It simply adds to the annual deficit? Where the spending cuts to compensate for it? Are not these the same House Republicans who cried for spending cuts before they would pass the middle class payroll tax cuts?

Is this a preview of what would happen if Republicans win the White House and both chambers of Congress? Of course, it is.

@vic – We have low interest rate loans, when compared to other years. You just can't qualify for them without pristine credit. Tried to re-fi a mortgage any time recently. What a joke. The pendulum has swing so far to the other side that it's comical.
Tax cuts are always good, but this is yet another GOP election year ploy. $46B giveaway, that the GOP can use as election year fodder if the Dem Senate blocks it. Let's not forget the GOP block on repealing the oil subsidies.

How does allowing small business owners to make higher profits create jobs?
Why would snall business owneres create new jobs if there is no increase in demand?

Eliminate the GSA, cut pay of all Senate Democrats by 90% to reflect the amount of time they have worked the last two years, cancel ALL government conferences for 2 years, have Obama reimburse the Treasury for all his tax payer funded campaign trips, cancel all bogus "green energy" boondoogles. That should just about do it!

  11. The Real Truth and Nothing But the Real Truth

Democrats and Obama continue to prove over and over they know NOTHING about the American economy. All they know how to do is spend money on government make work projects and bankrupt "green energy" fiascos. Is it any wonder their ignorance has kept the unemployment rate so high for so long?

So only cut the pay for the Senate dems?? What about the obstructionist tea baggers/rethugs? Come on lies and nothing but, be fair.

    OBAMA 2012!

  13. The REAL Truth.. (not the imposter)

Over and over "The Real Truth and Nothing But the Real Truth" has proven that it knows nothing about the American economy and politics.
All they know is how to hype up the hater language of the right. On your premise of pay cuts for all Senate Democrats, the entire GOP Congress (both houses BTW) OWES US money for their obstructionist do-nothing, AAA rating loss, deficit budget spending, give more to the 1%, get rid of Obama ideology. It worked so well during Dubya administration.

That's bad comedy. The *truth* is that Republicans do not plan to hold themselves accountable nor responsible for paying for anything at all. They are stuck between a rock and a hard place with this "jobs bill" of theirs.

They don't want to include any spending cut amendments because they know that Democrats would call them poison and win the spin game. So, they leave them out.

They know that if they do include amendments they lack the discipline and reason to make rationale cuts, instead of going hog wild overboard with overzealous, poisonous amendments.

They have painted themselves into a corner again, this time without the Democrats doing any thing more than stand back and watch in complete shock and awe.

Obama has WASTED four years and the economy still teeters on the brink of another recession even after all his "solutions" were tried. And now unemployment numbers are creeping UP again and Obama's HUMONGOUS IED in the economy awaits the country in 2013 when close to a TRILLION DOLLARS will be sucked right out of the economy in the form of tax increases. Can you say INSTANT RECESSION???

Yes, Obama's parting gift to the country will be another economic downturn, all to support the massive government he helped grow over the last four years.

  16. The Greedy Old PIgs declared class war on US!

Cantor's Deficit Increase Plan is more snake-oil nonsense about the disproven myth that tax cuts for the wealthy create jobs. They don't. And if the average American understood just how devious this bill is about shoveling massive amounts to the wealthy, while making our deficit worse, the people would be protesting in front of Cantor's office and residence 24/7. The bill is just that bad.

So the House GOP just passed a bill that would add $46,000,000,000 to the deficit and NOT CREATE A SINGLE JOB. Great work. Tax cuts for the rich are their answers to everything, and we'll remember this disgraceful and irresponsible vote in November when we kick these clowns OUT. Remind me, GOP apologists...how many jobs did Bush's tax scam create again? Oh yeah. Minus MILLIONS.

    I'll play.

What would you do to increase demand, Rudy? Get people a job. Where to 65% + of the jobs come from? Small businesses. How do you incentivize small business? Cut their taxes and ease up on overregulation.

And Republicans can agree on only one thing and that is always something for business. This is one dumb group of people.

The bottom line to no tax cuts for small businesses is firing employees, cutting down payroll, cutting down payroll taxes and employee's healthcare expense. this is the only way a small business can survive. Small businesses have to pay city taxes, state taxes, payroll taxes, county taxes, permits, utilities, auto insurance, property insurance, supplies, commissions, worker's compensation, rent, marketing, advertising, health insurance, equipment, service contracts, etc... it's a lot of bills to pay so the newest emplolyees are the ones to go. No overtime either.
