Washington (CNN) - The number of Americans who think things are going well in the country is on the rise, according to a new national poll.
But a CNN/ORC International survey released Friday morning also indicates that nearly six in ten still say that conditions are bad and that most people don't believe the economy has started to recover.

According to the poll, 43% say things are going well in the country, up a slight three points from February, but up a dramatic 19 points from last August. Fifty-seven percent say things are going badly, down three points from February and down 16 points from last August.
Nearly a quarter of those questioned say the economy is starting to recover, with just over four in ten saying it has stabilized and a third saying that the country is still in a downturn with conditions getting worse.
"People who live in the western states are more likely than those who live in other regions to say that the economy is starting to recover," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "People who live in the South are most likely to say that the economy is still in a downturn."
The recession ended in June 2009, according to the body charged with dating when economic downturns begin and end. But thanks to what's generally described as a slow recovery, public opinion polling indicates many Americans feel like the recession continues.
The poll was conducted for CNN by ORC International April 13-15, with 1,015 adult Americans questioned by telephone. The survey's overall sampling error is plus or minus three percentage points.

If the nation is gaining hope its not anything to do with Obama's policies but everything to do with the pending election and a chance to send him packing
Tell u the truth things are much better now than before. Obama is doing excellent job. At my work we r hiring. Obama12.
About 69% think the country is on the wrong track. Things are looking up – we will have a new President in November!
The main thing I don't like about the way the country is going is the imposing nature fueled by the GOP. They seem to be changing things in states where they have taken the political edge and the sheep are falling in line.
And just what is the name of this agency? "...according to the body charged with dating when economic downturns begin and end."
The last recession was very close to being labeled a depression and it took roughly eight years to recover from it. so, 2009-2012, three years, signifies a pretty speedy recovery. Yes, there are many people still affected by it but all things considered; the recovery seems to be in line. Of course, the party not in the White House is going to claim the recovery is too slow...especially when it started on their watch!!
Oh no.. This is not such a good news for the GOP who want to maek the president a one term president. They are probably not very happy that americans are feeling good about the nation's economy. Too bad for them.
And the sign the economy is doing good is UNEMPLOYMENT under 7%. Guess what we are not there under this administration!
I don't need a poll to tell me how I'm feeling about the economy. I see few signs of a real, lasting recovery.
You people that believe In these Polls are about has dumb has the people taking them. I bet that 99%of you people never been ask about any polls. In Nov of 2008 these Polls say John McCain had a big lead you seen what happen there didn't you.
Its amazing that President Obama has been able to save this country from the horrors of the Bush Administration in just three years.
Obama in 2012!
More bad news for the conserva t a r d s.
The only reason the mood is edgeing up is that we can finally get Obama OUT of the WH in November..
Hey, let's give ALL the money to the top 1% !! Think how many jobs they could create then, we could ALL be their gardeners!
Of course the mood is up because unemployment is down and more people are going back to work. The work of getting the economy back in shape isn't done (and never will be) but progress is being made.
And you think it's good news for Obama when 6 in 10 think it's going badly? You're either naive or just blind.
Sadly, the reason the mood is getting better is, people see the Gallup polls and think Obama is going to lose.
Draft Hillary Now.
