In rare press conference, Romney offers few specifics

Aston, Pennsylvania (CNN) – Mitt Romney took questions from the press for the first time in over a month Monday – but he avoided giving specific answers to almost every query.

Standing alongside a man some believe could become his running mate, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Romney employed the politician's art of speaking while saying very little.

How far along are you in the search for a vice president?

"We really haven't had a discussion yet of putting together a list or evaluating various candidates," Romney said.

Do you agree with Sen. Rubio's suggestion for a modified DREAM Act, which would offer visas to some young people brought into the country illegally?

"I'm taking a look at his proposal," he said. "It has many features to commend it but it's something that we're studying."

In addition to military personnel who are illegal immigrants, are there other groups of undocumented people in this country to whom you might offer some kind of pathway to legal status?

"How we adjust our visa program to make it fit the needs of our country is something I'll be speaking about down the road," Romney said. "But I don't have anything for you on that on stage."

Romney last held a press conference on March 16 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. His Monday session with reporters came a day before a primary in Pennsylvania, as well as voting in Delaware, New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Rubio appeared to be following Romney's example, keeping his remarks extremely brief and general.

Asked whether his experience qualified him to be vice president, Rubio said simply: "I'm not talking about that process anymore."

The former Massachusetts governor did elaborate on one question, from a French reporter who asked about his favorite memories of the country.

Romney, a Mormon, spent his mission as a young man in France. But instead of talking about that experience, he recounted memories from vacations spent in the country as an adult.

"I think the best memories were with my wife on vacations, from time to time in France," he said. "The last vacation we had there, walking around the city of Paris, not just in the Champs-Élysées, but also over to the Jardin of Luxembourg and around the city, as one of the most magnificent cities in the world and I look forward to occasional vacations again in such a beautiful place."

Some Democrats seized on the statement as another example of Romney's tendency to make off-handed remarks that casually reveal his wealth.

After he wrapped his talk with reporters Monday, Romney returned to the microphone to make some news. He told reporters he was in favor of extending relief on student loans.

Previously he had said colleges would eventually be forced to compete by lowering their tuition costs.

Mitt the flip flopper does it again, he has no leadership qualities even close to matching President Obama's.

So, Romney still doesn't know what the heck he is doing, what he stands for, has no plans, will not stand up to
hateful comments made by his "supporters", and talks about vacations. Looks like the Teapubs just want a
puppet, and apparently have found one in this empty suit. Not my idea of one who needs to be strong,
decisive, and intelligent enough to deal with the reality of today's problems.

  4. No More Hope and Change Obama

You dems amaze me. You mean to tell me that none of you have ever taken a nice vacation? I make $16 per hour and my husband and I are going to St Lucia next week. So am I out of touch. I hope to be completely out of touch with TV, cells, stress. I think it is refreshing to see a man who loves his wife and isn't afraid to show it. Maybe if we get Obama out and somebody like Romney "in" you too can go on a vacation!!! At any rate, stop the petty jealousy. It is old and worn out!

Did he get in a few more lies about the President, his performance, and his positions. That is what Romney does best.

All romney can do is critisize and say he is going to change things. He never says how. If he thinks rubio is going to help, he's nuts. There aren,t enough cubins in fl. to get the latino vote.

No More – You're right. If we elect Romney, we may all take a vacation... although not a voluntary one. Romney is pushing the same economic agenda that made Bush synonymous the Great Recession. If he gets in he can finish the job Bush started and put the rest of us out of work.

The press conference was less about answering questions and more about showcasing his dream team with Rubio.

Romney vs. Obama – two big money connected career empty-rhetoric politicians with nice smiles all about the status quo. No wonder the world didn't stop laughing and/or attacking at us when Obama took office. We are a bigger joke each time around.

Vote third party next time to at least vote your conscience. Stop watching TV for two seconds and think.

@No More Hope and yada yada: "Maybe if we get Obama out and somebody like Romney "in" you too can go on a vacation!!! At any rate, stop the petty jealousy."

Here's the Romnification that will befall our country if Robmey is elected:

    1. Hostile takeover (steal the election; he's already proven he's willing to do that with his buying of votes in Maine).

    2. Suck out the assets (lower taxes on the wealthy; eliminate capital gains taxes).

    3. Reduce operating expenses to finance the debt (lower taxes means lower revenues means higher deficit; eliminate social spending, cut education, let infrastructure continue to crumble and decay, lay off public employees).

    4. Take his "fees" for his "expert management services" (see #2 above: he and his millionaire/billionaire cronies would benefit the most from the reduced/eliminated taxes).

    5. Leave the company to go bankrupt (our nation would permanently fall into third-world status, with virtually no Middle Class and an uneducated, sprawling poverty class, desperate to work for 50 cents/day, totally dependent on the charity of those few charitable organizations the right deem "worthy" of their donations).

    6. Move on to the next target company (invest in emerging nations such as China and India, where labor is cheap and regulations are minimal; make further millions and billions, lining their own pockets and chalking up their killing of America to the "free market correcting itself").

My dislike for Robmey doesn't come from "petty jealousy;" it comes from having lived in a third-world country and seeing firsthand what will happen to the US if Robmey (the puppet, with strings pulled by "all we need is a president with 10 working digits" Grover Norquist) is put in charge.
