(CNN) - Texas Gov. Rick Perry on Wednesday affirmed his support for likely GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, after initially backing Newt Gingrich's rival campaign following his own withdrawal from the race.
"Mitt Romney has earned the Republican Presidential nomination through hard work, a strong organization, and disciplined message of restoring America after nearly four years of failed job-killing policies from President Obama and his administration," the Texas governor said in a statement.

"So today I join the many conservative Republicans across the nation in endorsing Mitt Romney for President and pledge to him, my constituents, and the Republican Party than I will continue to work hard to help defeat President Obama," he continued.
Perry praised Romney's "vision and record of private sector success."
His announcement came following reports that Gingrich would exit the race next week.
Perry ended his campaign on January 19 after a disappointing finish in Iowa and bypassing the New Hampshire primary to instead focus on South Carolina. As his prospects in the Palmetto State appeared dim, Perry ended his bid and endorsed Gingrich.
"We've had our differences, which campaigns will inevitably have, and Newt is not perfect, but who among us is?" he told reporters in Charleston, South Carolina.
Perry burned through $20 million over the course of his short presidential bid. His April Federal Election Commission filing showed he had nearly $475,000 cash on hand and debts totaling $14,000.
- CNN's Marlena Baldacci and Peter Hamby contributed to this report.
Actually, he endorsed Gingrich, Rmoney and one other he can't remember.
A giant successful current governor with 12 yrs record of colossal economic success had to endorse a former one term Gov. of a tiny state with catastrophic record.
Bunch of clowns.
Just figures huh? Only a loser follows who appears to be the current winner. And Perry is a total loser and a theiving puppet. I can say this because I live in Texas and I ask myself daily; How did this man get re-elected?
and in other fast breaking news, Sarah Palin, Donald Trump and a host of other presidential wannabees have decided to think about holding a news conference regarding supporting Mitt so that their own 15 minutes of fame can be extended another five minutes.
really folks, who cares about Rick Perry other than Rick Perry?
Big deal. Rick Perry is just one more Neaderthal-like Republican. Mitt Romney is just the conservative version of President Obama. Remember Romeycare. He will never be able to run away from that one.
Of cause! One more nut supporting the nut!!! GOP – vote them all out!!!!!!!!
He didn't do much but out spend (mostly negative) his compeditors. How is this really a good thing for the democratic process? Perry would do worse than Romney, but it doesn't matter because they'd both lose against Obama.
Good Ole' Gubner Good Hair...this guy will say anything to stay relevant in the news cycle. The enemy of my enemy is a friend of mine..Rick knows this best!
This appears to be a good decision on Perry's part–I mean what the heck else is he going to do?
Rats do that when they realize the ship is sinking ... Oops!
What a joke!!!
Flip flopping (former democrat now gop) again for another flip flopper? All this flipping is making me dizzy!
This is great! 2 of the worst and failed Governors helping each other out. Romney's, failed senator and failed presidential bids, Perry's failed presidential bid and both states ranking at the BOTTOM compared to other states.
This is great, just great! Exactly what America needs right now more failure by failures!
All hat and no cattle.
woo hoo now that Perry has endorsed Mitt. I'm voting for Mitt. NOT!
