Conservative group puts millions into Obama energy attack

Washington (CNN) - An independent conservative group launched its latest round of ads Thursday that are set to air in eight presidential battleground states backed by $6.1 million, according to the organization.

The president of Americans for Prosperity said the ad will begin running on Friday on cable and broadcast television stations for two weeks in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio and Virginia.

The 60-second spot criticizes the Obama administration's energy policies and its failure to provide clean energy jobs in the United States.

"You cannot allow or it does not work when an administration is using our tax dollars in pursuit of an ideology, in this case global warming," AFP president Tim Phillips said during a press conference in Washington, D.C.

The White House has promoted what it calls an "all-of-the-above energy strategy" that will decrease American dependency on foreign oil, expand U.S.-based jobs and reduce emissions that it says contribute to climate change and pollution.

But Phillips said President Barack Obama's "almost obsessive focus on global warming" speaks to "this administration's focus on an ideology as opposed to genuinely trying to get this economy moving again."

"American tax payers are paying to send their own jobs to foreign countries," the narrator in the spot said. "Tell President Obama: American tax dollars should help American taxpayers."

Phillips said the ad buy would be accompanied by "hundreds of thousands of dollars" toward grass roots efforts in the targeted states, all of which are expected to be competitive in the next presidential election. AFP Spokesman Levi Russell said there will be two to three events in each state over the next few weeks, a mixture of rallies and town halls.

The Obama re-election campaign responded to the announcement, which it said was backed by "secretive oil billionaires."

"While the President fights everyday to build an economy where everybody gets a fair shot and does their fair share, special interests across the country are mobilizing to buy the election for Governor Romney to try to promote their interests over the interests of the American people," Obama National Press Secretary Ben LaBolt said in a statement.

AFP is a nonprofit group backed by conservative oil billionaires David and Charles Koch, among others, which has donated significant funds toward advertising and advocacy ahead of the November election. Nonprofits like AFP are able to accept unlimited corporate and individual contributions but are not required to disclose their donors.

Thursday's announcement marks the third round of ads from AFP in recent months. The two previous endeavors centered on the failed energy company Solyndra that went bankrupt after receiving government funding.

    ------------------
That's actually a truthful statement. Our tax dollars do go towards sending our own jobs overseas. Thanks to the loophole introduced by the Bush administration that allows corporations to deduct much of their foreign tax debt off of their US taxes in full.

Why else do you think we say 50,000 manufacturing plants close and 8 million jobs leave this country during the Bush administration?

I truly do NOT want a government bought and paid for and to which it would be beholden to the Koch regime. If people think that is a good idea for it to be controlled by self interested billionaires, then they should vote for Romney. Global warming is not idealogy; its a fact.

If this is all GOPiers have for OBAMA in 2012, they might as well fold their tents now and go home. As I see it, this is a loosing battle for them. 'STIMULUS FUNDING" helped to bring almost dead U. S. economy to life. I guess GoPiers will not understand that.

BO is a loser of a president. He has done nothing but make it more expensive for rich and poor alike to exist. He has pitted American against American. He is nothing more than a communist agitator stirring up hatred and deceit.

Wow, crazy much? Taxes are at historic lows. And you obviously have not noticed that it's your GOBP cult that has pitted American against American when the corporate predators and the parasites lurking among the 1% declared class war on the rest of us.

And "communist"? Really? When you rightwing extremists are flailing, that seems to be your fallback bit of lunacy. It's pretty much a giant red flag where you announce "Yeah, I got nothin', though I sure do hate our President/Dems!"

As a member of that old-fashioned group "actual human voters" (call us "Americans for Posterity," maybe), I fully intend to vote for the candidate who has taken an interest in doing something about the ongoing destruction of this planet, our one and only habitat. That candidate is, of course, Barack Obama. I wish I believed we will ever find another planet we could live on and had any chance of ever getting to, because I would love to send all the home-schooled right-wing flat-earthers there, where they could exercise whatever kind of poor stewardship they wanted over that habitat while waiting for god to come get them out of the mess they've created.

The price is not dropping as it is stable above $100 barrel. Obama surrogates stated they wanted high prices and that is what they are getting. The lower to middle income families are the ones that will be and have been hurt. I know a lot of oil & gas people and they are a decent lot and for the President to demonize them is indefensible when his core money comes from low life trial lawyers and unions. You talk about selfish and unethical but he fits in well.

Dr. Knowitall says: "BO is a loser of a president. He has done nothing but make it more expensive for rich and poor alike to exist. He has pitted American against American. He is nothing more than a communist agitator stirring up hatred and deceit." Just who is deviding America? It is the Tea Party, the Party of No, and the rest of the GOP which made it their mission to defeat the President in this year's election "even if it means making America fail". At no time in American history has a political Party actually worked for the demise of the country, to try to remove someone from office. I think the GOP mission is treason. The President has championed programs that will benefit everyone in the long run, rich and poor alike. The policies of the GOP will only benefit the rich and ultra-conservatives. The President champions programs to help the poor without creating a welfare state, unlike the programs of the GOP, which would take away woman's reporductive rights and pre-natal care, adding to the unwanted pregnancies and creating the very welfare state the GOP rails about. The GOP will go to war at the drop of a hat, because it stimulates the economy and makes the big Defense contractors even richer.
