Mitt Romney not yet decided on ‘SNL’ cameo, wife Ann says

(CNN) – She is seen by some as a spouse who can soften the sometimes stiff demeanor of her husband, Mitt Romney.

But Ann Romney isn’t sure if her husband - a notorious prankster and jokester – will deliver a few punch lines himself on “Saturday Night Live.” If he appears on the famous Studio 8H stage, she says she’d go on camera, too.

“Of course that would be a great thrill,” Ann Romney said Thursday on “Entertainment Tonight.” “Who knows when or how, but I think at some point, it would be fun for him to do that.”

“SNL” has made more than a few jokes at her husband’s expense this election cycle, portraying him as rich and out of touch, perfectly coiffed and uncomfortable even in his own den.

That caricature of her husband couldn’t be more off. “They’re not accurate, but they’re funny,” she said. “Actually, Mitt is a very funny guy.”

Among the inaccuracies is actor Jason Sudeikis’ representation of Romney's hair.

“He doesn’t comb his hair when we're not going places,” she said. “It’s like, all over the place.”

Earlier this month, the candidate said that he hadn’t decided whether he would accept an invitation to the program.

“Of course it would depend on the nature of the skit. I want it to be funny," he said in an interview with ABC News.

Though he hasn’t appeared on the program, a reference to it has slipped into his stump speech.

“President Obama thinks he is doing a good job. I am not kidding. He actually thinks he is doing a great job, an historically great job,” Romney said at a rally in Appleton, Wisconsin.

“According to the president, only Lincoln and FDR and Lyndon Johnson have accomplished more. And no, we didn’t say that on ‘Saturday Night Live,’ ” he quipped.

Campaigning in 2008, Obama landed a speaking role on the program. In his first appearance, he wore a mask of himself to a Halloween party hosted by actors portraying Bill and Hillary Clinton.

“Who is that under there?” the actress playing Clinton asked.

“Well, you know, Hillary, I have nothing to hide,” the real Obama said, pulling off the mask. “I’m not gonna change who I am just because it’s Halloween.”

Another scheduled appearance for the then-Democratic presidential contender was canceled as a hurricane roared up the East Coast.

Romney has stuck to other late night programs this cycle, delivering the “Top 10 things you don’t know about Mitt Romney” on David Letterman’s program.

“I got into politics for the piles and piles of paperwork,” Romney teased.

He answered questions more seriously in a March visit to Jay Leno’s couch.

Obama wasn’t the only 2008 presidential hopeful to appear on “SNL.” Clinton and GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin appeared alongside actresses who bore uncanny resemblances to the political figures.

But is a cameo on the longtime NBC show a necessary stepping stone to the Oval Office? The show’s head writer broached the subject in an interview with New York Magazine this week.

Seth Meyers' advice, which he deadpanned, for Romney: "I could tell him, 'Look, Giuliani did it, Palin did it, McCain did it, and they were all president.”

If Romney goes on SNL I wonder what Fox will say then? Oh that's right, he isn't president yet, and hopefully never. Then he can go on all he wants.

  3. RNC is out of touch with Women and Middle Class Americans

The Republicans are about to make Mitt Romney their nominee 2012 who lost in 2008 to McCain. Can you guess who will be the 2016 GOP nominee? Rick Santourm all you have to do is wait your turn for the GOP Board to approve you. Boring! Mitt Romney will flop on SNL.

The funniest part about this article, though I'm sure it's unintentional, is trying to imagine Mitt Romney w/ruffled hair, cutting up & being a jokester! Maybe if he showed this side he could at least prove that he's not a Romneybot, as some have nicknamed him! The unfortunate part is of course the reality of the GOTP agenda, which he supports all or most of! That would essentially be the methodical cutting & dismantling of all systems that benefit the middle class, poor, elderly & children! All of that has already happened in my red state! Isn't is curious that a party that accuses my President of being a Socialist, has chosen the color associated w/ communism??

He should have his own show , " Mr Romney's Neighborhood ".

Play games, watch videos and sing songs as you visit with Mister Rogers and learn about the world around you.

I know Giuliani is a former NY mayor, Palin is a former Alaska governor and McCain is a former Republican nominee. Besides, we know Mitt Romney is not only a husband but a boss as well.

That should be fun to see if Romney is a wooden as he appears. I don't know how much he can laugh at himself. If appeance on the Tonight Show is any example, he can take a laugh or two. The jokes are much like his policies - laughable.

If Romney had not been running for President for the past six years he would never be tied to Kid Rock,Ted Nugent,NASCAR,SNL.All of this entertainment and entertainers would be off limits to the Romneys normal religious lifestyle and he is so incredibly uncomfortable looking when he pretends to know anything about sports or entertainment but I guess the lust for power and greed makes him ignore his Mormon religion.

The humor of Mittens is something to behold. Imagine the laughter he could generate with his personhood, anti planned parenthood, promising to end social security and medicare as we know it; wars with Iran, Syria, and Russia; corporate raiding, vulture capitalism, off shore money laundering, flip flopping, gaffes, zippergate, his foreign policy ignorance, and his non stop lying. He is a hoot.

If President Obama reminds people of the mess we were in 4 short years ago, right wingnuts say he is blaming Bush. I blame Bush, but I don't think the president has. If a right wingnut says that Obama has been on vacation more than any other president, they think 61 days is more than Bush's 180 during the same time frame. When a right wingnut says that Obama has generated bigger deficits than Bush, they think Bush's $1.37 trillion in his last budget is less than the $977 billion deficit in Obama's last budget. I am convinced there is no hope for the reality challenged viewers of Fox foreign owned criminal media.

I get why Ann Romney is doing a lot of talking these days and answering questions about her husband – it is an attempt to soften her husband, but she was as unrealistic about the regular person's life as he is when she was talking about her "health scare". She has MS and like millions of others (mostly women) that suffer from chronic autoimmune diseases (Lupus, Sjogren's, Fibromyalgia, Rhuematoid Arthritis, etc.) she gets flare up of her disease. The other day she said she had such terrible fatigue but had to just keep going in the campaign. I, and millions of others deal with that all the time. When you really need about 36 – 48 hours of rest and sleep until it passes, we have to keep on going taking care of kids, going to work, cleaning the house, getting meals on the table, etc. Mrs. Romney said she is able to keep her health issues at bay by horseback riding and monitoring her rest. That is nice for her. Most of us millions of women are not afforded that luxury and to call what she experienced a "health scare" is something we deal with all the time and it is not a "health scare" it is business as usual for all of us suffering from autoimmune diseases. And – bet she has no problem paying for her medications – lucky her.

Careful Mitt, Karl Rove might label you as a celebrity candidate. Oh wait, you're on his team so it's ok to go on late night comedy. Kinda like Romneycare vs Obamacare.

Those folks need to ask mitten that if he's elected president what programs will he cut to give to the rich, who vacuum money out the economy and build up China. Ask him how local small businesses suppose to survive and keep their workers when their local spenders are decimated with the dragonian cuts mitten will impose on them. Did you guys take a look at Ryan austerity budget which mitten called marvelous. I am very afraid when I look at Europe, and their austerity movement that threw them back in a double recession, which will cause their budget to explode even more. May YAH have mercy upon us.

An appearance on SNL would either reinforce or break his image as an elitist who's lived a life in an artificial bubble of his own design and specifications. Not appearing would only reinforce the image, plus adding to the air of mystique that he has something to hide.
