Boehner names potential VP picks

(CNN) - House Speaker John Boehner named three Republicans as potential vice presidential picks for Mitt Romney, but said there is a "long list" of qualified candidates.

The top Republican in Congress said Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio and Gov. Mitch Daniels of Indiana fit his criteria that the pick be capable of serving as president.

"There are a lot of people that I like. But this is a personal choice for Gov. Romney, and I'm confident that he'll have a running mate that will be helpful to the ticket," Boehner told CNN Chief Political Correspondent Candy Crowley in an interview set to air Sunday.

"I think the number one quality is, are they capable of being president in the case of an emergency?" Boehner added.

The question to Romney is not who is the best-qualified candidate; it's who will do the least damage.

The Christian Taliban want Santorum, and they provide a lot of the volunteers for the campaign. If they don't get what they want, they won't help, and they may stay home in November. The TP's want, well, they want Palin but will accept someone else if they pass their purity test. If they don't get what they want they are liable to bolt and mount a third-party campaign. Losing the CT's would be bad, but losing the TP's would be fatal. Hence, Rubio is getting a prolonged audition to see if he is acceptable to the CT's. (I originally thought it would be Rick until I considered the 3rd-party threat)

BTW, does Candy Crowley ever interview anyone other than GOPers/Teatrolls or is she CNN's official conservative bullhorn?

Every member of the House must go though financial disclosure forms. Your argument is static noise.

Joe from CT, you have an interesting point about Boehner keeping the Speaker's gavel. If Rubio is the VP candidate, it will elevate the TP's power even if he is defeated. A Cantor/Ryan coup would be entirely possible. If Romney/Rubio were to somehow win, the TP's would be certain to try to topple him.

NEWSFLASH: to those who constantly refer to Obama's voting block as "dope addicts, welfare queens, lazy non-working, union toady", etc., guess what: THEY GET ONE VOTE JUST LIKE YOU DO and I'm sure if YOU could be identified YOU would fit into at least THREE of those categories. Now, instead of posting non-sense ALL DAY go out and get a job and help your country move forward.

A long list of "qualified" candidates? Boehner thinks that Marco Rubio, the same guy while giving a foreign policy speech earlier this week lost the last page of the speech and was forced to actuallly leave the podium to frantically scramble around in the audience to find it because he couldn't finish his speech without it. He couldn't just ad lib it?

Boehner thinks that Rubio is "qualified" to be one heartbeat away from the presidency?

I knew it!! "Emergency" code word for "as soon as he gets in, we're taking him out". Rom-bot is just a pon. He better watch out for all those FRIENDS he has in the GOP. Backstabbers.

Yup, the GOBP cult's puppetmasters plan for Rmoney to be their robot, signing their un-American, pro-vulture capitalist bills.

@wired, Wasserman is NOT running for president.
I want to see the flip flopper's tax returns and his long form birth certificate. As far as we really know he might have been born in Mexico when his daddy went to visit his polygamist father!!
As far as the bimbo from AK and the flake from MN, they are really not women, they are under rock ho mutants. Please don't compare them sith intelligent beings of our planet Earth!!

Boehner's reign as House speaker will be mercilessly short. And Romney can't choose anyone who will outshine him, so believe he will probably go with a Filing Cabinet as his running mate.

It really does not matter who Romney Robot picks as it will not help him remedy his established label as an Out-of-touch Weathervane that says anything to satisfy the extreme right.

He is now well understood by most and will find it extremely difficult to -again change- what he has endorsed in the last 6 months appealing to the Tea- drinkers!

@The Real Truth and Nothing But Real Truth
Rubio has been in the Senate longer than Obama was when he started running for President. So Obama can do it for President yet Rubio can't do it for VP??? Hmmm... do I sense a double standard here? Or is it just blatant hypocrisy? Or both?

Do you sense a double standard ?
No ,The Real Truth and Nothing But Real Truth is that your bar is set so low an individual such as Sarah Palin can look like a olympic gymnast

Marco Rubio's highly-touted foreign policy address Wednesday went off...not quite ... At least he knew that the last page of it was missing.

Rubio would have received a C minus from any qualified accredited college professor.

This may take a while. Mitt will be market testing VP candidates to see which one drives him ahead of Obama at the polls. None will do so. The problem is HIM. And that problem cant be fixed.
