Pat Boone's Lugar love

(CNN) – Conservative crooner Pat Boone lent his voice and support to Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana via a radio ad on Friday in hopes of helping the six-term incumbent beat back a challenge from the right.

The successful pop singer and ardent Republican described the longest serving Republican senator as a "true conservative" who shares Hoosier State voter's "Midwestern values."

"When did words like experience, wisdom, statesman, vitality, integrity and a lifetime of service first become of less value to you?" Boone said in the commercial. "The answer is: They didn't and neither did the man they describe, Sen. Dick Lugar."

The ad will run on Christian radio with extra emphasis on Friday and Saturday to coincide with Boone-Lugar campaign events on Saturday, Team Lugar said.

Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels of Indiana also cut his second ad for the candidate that began airing throughout the state on Friday, according to the campaign, in which he says "We're lucky to have Dick Lugar and we need to keep him."

Lugar will face State Treasurer Richard Mourdock, who has received the backing of major conservative groups, in the May 8 Republican primary. Mourdock's bid marks the first serious primary challenge against Lugar since he first entered the Senate in 1976.

The Mourdock attacks have criticized Lugar's bipartisan efforts in the upper chamber of Congress and that the senior senator has not lived in the state for decades.

In February the Indiana Election Division ruled Lugar's situation was legal due to the state's election law.

Lugar's campaign has capitalized on an error in Mourdock's recent tax returns, in which he claimed thousand of dollars in extra homestead deductions.

Mourdock said he tried to fix the problem years ago, adding the paperwork was lost by the state. The Marion County Auditor's Office later took responsibility for the delay.

– CNN's Ashley Killough contributed to this report.

I'm sure Pat Boone is very patriotic and all that, but didn't they pass a law back in the Nixon Administration making it a crime to wear the American flag, or any garment based on that design, calling it an insult to the country's flag?

Wearing the US flag as a jacket is disrespectful to Old Glory, hardly the stuff of conservative values.

Even in the 50's Pat Boone was so square and just as boring as Mitt. He just couldn't rock. And is as dopey as Anita Byrant.

Did Palin lend this full-time idiot one of her husband's FIRST DUD shirts? My grandmother used to listen to his weak-tea singing instead of taking sleeping pills-cheaper and no side-affects.

If Lugar is being attacked as not being conservative enough, I sure hope there is a Democrat in the race in November. The only tea party we need in Congress is herbal tea.

Why do people listen to celebrities.....and why do they elect them in any office? They come out of the woodwork every election, and prop up some politician. Their support is no more important than anyone else's.

I'm sorry, but having been forced to sit through "In A Metal Mood" as I was once, I can't take anything that comes out of this guys mouth seriously. I do praise him though, on his efforts to keep the GOP from turning into a completely reactionary political party of paranoid bigots.

Darn...I thought he was expressing his love for his gun and the NRA, like Heston. The flag jacket is a definite No-No...
Maybe the tea bagger candidate will unseat Lugar and then lose to whoever the Dems run against him.

Section 8d. of the US Flag Code reads, "The flag should never be used as wearing apparel."
Where is the group of Veterans that protested the US Flag that had Obamas picture in place of the stars because it violated the Flag Code? Why isn't Americas true 'Patriots', the Tea Party, denouncing this practice? (Look at a photo of a gathering of these 'Patriots' for your answer.)

The only people he's going to appeal to are people over 70 who don't depend on their Social Security or Medicaid.
    What a tool.
No mention of him flooding the Florida airwaves during the Repub primary, with ridiculous talking points that were outright lies. Unfortunately, Florida was loaded with "Snowbirds" at the time who fit his base.
I guess they paid him enough to come back alive.
    What a tool.

Am I the only person a bit worried about the attacks on bipartisanship. If the ultraconservatives get their way it would seem we are headed toward persistent political gridlock. Isn't bipartisanship the crowning achievement of a democratic government?

Great outfit , I thought he was Evel Knievel !

Conservative crooner Pat Boone , the man who ripped off Little Richard .
Little Richard wrote this song " Tutti Frutti " in 1955 when he was working as a dishwasher at a Greyhound bus station in his hometown of Macon, Georgia.

This is the tespublikan clean crazy version vs just plain crazy nugent.
I didn't know this guy was still alive. Does he know that wearing the flag is a no no. Just saying.
BTW, when the Democrats don't agree to the screwing of the nation it's a crime and when the teapublikans do it it just the way they are. Those poor rethugs. So misunderstood by the people they are constantly screwing,
If this was a case of spousal abuse would you still want these rethugs in a position of power over you? VITE THEM ALL OUT!!!!! Make them work for a living like we all do. Take a look at the plush offices some of them have in the Capitol. Reminds me of those people/corporation CEOs!!

"The state lost my paperwork" sounds an awful lot like "the dog ate my homework". If they lost it, you should have and probably could have fixed in the time frame that was let go.

The slew of attack ads by Mourdock but a bad taste in my mouth (a lot of the ads comdemn negative attack ads while actively carrying on an attack ad). Lugar on the other hand seems to be running a positive campaign. Whereas these don't deal with specific issues of the day, it's telling of the integrity of the indivivdual which is important.

Wearing the flag as clothing is generally considered poor flag etiquette, like leaving a flag out in the rain. Each state has its own flag law; the U.S. Flag Code only states, "No disrespect should be shown to the Flag of the United States of America."

The State of Indiana makes it a Class A misdemeanor for anyone to "knowingly or intentionally mutilate, deface, burn or trample the U.S. flag" (Indiana Code 35-45-1-4).

If Pat Boone is a real sweaty guy, then I guess he could be charged under this statute for "defacing" the U.S. flag ...
