Washington (CNN) - The White House said Friday that President Barack Obama would veto a Republican measure passed by the House to extend lower interest rates on federal student loans because it takes money from a health care fund that benefits women.
A White House statement said Obama's senior advisers would recommend a veto if the House measure, which passed 215-195 on a largely party-line vote, were to win Senate approval and reach the president's desk.

Is this the bi partisanship obammys been preaching about? oh yea i forgot. that doesnt apply to dems. IOKIYAD
Of course Obama will veto the GOP student loan plan.
The Democrats put the increase for interest rates on student loans into law in 2007!
Where was Obama on the 2007 vote; Obama voted present!
Obama can’t run away from his record of FAILURE!
Obama vetoing the GOP student loan plan will be just another FAILURE for Obama.
What a buch of hypocrites! Does Mr. Obama really want to help college students or are Democrats just posturing, as usual?! College students, take heed: Mr. Obama, Bobble Head Pelosi, Senile Red, etc., etc., etc., are just continuing their lying ways.
This is further proof that the president and his flunkies are just talking out of both sides of their mouths.
Don't be fooled, AGAIN!!!
Taking away from women and children now are you, GOPers? One more demographic in a long, long line of folks being divided one against the other due to John Boehner's cold and callused leadership. NOT a winning strategy.
Keep pushing it, GOPers, and your party WILL lose the House. Trust me.
Are thebrethugs ever going to pass a bill that doesn't destroy people or they always want to get thrive money and the he'll sit the little people.
This is going, once again, to work against them. The bo ner Nd his party of he'll no have no integrity!!
the dogs of war: I think maybe you should look up the definition of bi partisan ship, the republicans taking money from the affordable health care act is hardly it. The republicans have no intention of lowering the interest rate or they would have provided a way to fund it that the democrats could agree to. congratulations on being the first republican comentator to fall for the their tricks on this issue
Republicans are also playing the same political gamesmanship that they have been playing for the entire Obama administration, which is creating uncertainty and chaos. The current law lasted for six years. Republicans want to extend the rate for just one year. What sense does that make?
Republicans never really wanted to extend the lower rate because it means lower profits for the privatized student loan industry that Bush created. But, it is an election year so they put on a good face and extend it for one year.
The GOP's strategy is ruthless and immoral. Try off-setting expenses from the people who have benefited off the 99%.
Did Mr. Orange really think they could pass the bill if it took away money from the Healthcare Reform law? Really. What a waste of time. The GOP are wasting time and I would like to see them swept out of the office and replaced with people who can actually deal with the issues in a realistic fashion. If the GOP wanted to act in good faith they would sacrifice a ltttle from their sacred cows. What they are doing just added to the paritisan obstruction we as citizens should not tolerate.
blah....blah...blah Mr. Speaker.
Wow, what a concept, pay for a program before hand. I would much rather have college kids loan rates lowered than universal health care. It is the least we can do for saddling them up with all this debt that they will have to pay off. We can't and shouldn't have it all.

Your party members might be easily swayed by talking point rhetoric, but I assure you, those being most affected by GOPer policies fully understand the how and why of what is occurring throughout America because of GOP ideological stubborness. These are the folks living it, not watching it from the sidelines. Believe me ... they "get" the picture.
The profits made on student loans helps fund Obamacare when and if it ever totally goes into effect. More of that hope and change he promised us.

Another educated democrat......Read Obamacare and you will see that the profits made from student loans is used for the funding of Obamacare.
And in the meantime billions upon billions gets thrown into the black hole of defense spending. The fact that the GOP is trying to pretend like a healthcare fund is the only place we can find this money is absurd.
The question I think that is really there that no one is mentioning is: how to pay for the continued reduction in the interest rate. How is it so hard to reduce subsidies for the oil and gas companies? Why not have a low percentage for the wealthy to help pay for the loans? They don't need it for their kids.
For three years the Republicans did almost nothing by way of legistlation to help the middle class. In fact they filibustred and obstructed almost everything. Now they want to look like they are doing something and pretending they are so big hearted. If they are smart the Dems will list all of the legislation that the Repubs blocked for three years and question them about their sudden change of heart. If the Repubs had been more helpful earlier the country would almost certainly be in better shape. They always put silly partisan extras in their bills so that the Dems cannot support them. How about just putting forth clean bills on both sides and have up and down votes on them? Sounds democratic to me.
Jerry: I think you are the only one being fooled on this issue, if the republicans cared at all for students they would have found a source of funding the democrats could agree too. Its just more politics as usual from the republicans.

Wow! The private banks that administer the student loans use their profits to pay for "Obamacare"? That's incredible. What do the shareholders have to say about that?
More partisan games from the GOPers/Teatrolls. THEY ARE TRYING TO HOLD STUDENTS AND THEIR DREAMS HOSTAGE TO DEMAND THAT THE ACA BE DEFUNDED. What's hard to understand about that? It's the objective truth. Whitewashing it as CNN and the MSM have done is just carrying the GOP/Teatrolls' water for them.

We didn't have debt and deficit problems until Republicans took control of the Congress and then the White House.
The money for education of Americans and legal residents should come from the military budget. Specifically from the money saved by ending these two failed wars: Iraq and Afghanistan. Time to stop dumping money and lives where each is wasted. Our own house is in too great of disorder to be wasting our resources on external policing of the world.
Ask yourselves: who deserves the benefit of America's riches more, you or citizens of Iraq and Afghanistan?
END THE WARS! INVEST THE MILITARY MONEY IN THE AMERICAN ECONOMY AND CITIZENS!
Of course she would not support it and he would veto it. It would make sense and the most corrupt, inept, incompetent, union toady president in history and the boxtox brain damaged idiot would be against it. They favor socking the people who are acting responsibly, not drug addicted, not welfare frauds and who actually work and pay taxes for more money. They learned their lessons from and are stooges of the greedy, corrupt union bosses.
Dean, that's patently untrue, but thanks for spouting the latest right wing lie. Now go report to your handlers for your cookie!
For people to continue to be fooled by the GOP is beyond comprehension. Republicans could care less about the middle class, the poor, students, women, minorities, cops, firefighters, teachers, nurses, or anyone else that isn't obsurdly rich. If they cared about jobs, they would not have obstructed every piece of serious jobs legislation put forth by this president. School modernation, BLOCKED. Infrastructure, BLOCKED, First responders, BLOCKED, Refinance and principal reduction, BLOCKED. Remember, this is the party who once said they would not allow emergency funds for tornado victims unless there were offsetting spending cuts. Where are the offsets for 1% tax cuts? Where are offsets for the bloated defense budget? Where are the offsets for the 4 billion a year to the oil and gas industry? Where are the offsets for capital gains tax at 15%? America, wake up! The GOP is a joke and are pulling the wool over so many of our voters eyes, it is quite pathetic, America, vote GOP and you have nobody to blame but yourselves.
And they really expect to win by robbing and stepping over those less fortunate? Everyone knows the republicans are only interested in those "fortunate" people and could care less about those LESS fortunates. They're a sad legacy of a party if you ask me.
