White House: Obama would veto GOP student loan plan

Washington (CNN) - The White House said Friday that President Barack Obama would veto a Republican measure passed by the House to extend lower interest rates on federal student loans because it takes money from a health care fund that benefits women.

A White House statement said Obama's senior advisers would recommend a veto if the House measure, which passed 215-195 on a largely party-line vote, were to win Senate approval and reach the president's desk.

If this is true and Pres. Obama does veto it. I want him to get on national television and tell us "I vetoed the Republican drafted law because it takes money away from funding for women and children's healthcare." And then list places in the bugdet that he would have allowed funding to be taken away from and he would have supported it OR if the taxes on those who can afford it (ie the rich) had been raised slightly he would have signed the Republican propsal.

Haven't seen Nancy in a while but I see she still excels at the same deceptive practices as in the past. They ought to leave the rate as it is now and ask why college educational costs have skyrocketed the past 10 years. A real study would be a cost analysis of what kids are earning at graduation vs what they are spending for a four year degree now. I have kids that are separated by 12 years and the costs are unbelievably different. The student loans are easy to get but the factor is the exorbidant cost. Its not the RATE but what you are paying.

Obama and the Democrats want to spend, spend, spend and not pay for anything. It is one thing after another, for 3 years now. Nonstop pandering to all of the voters they want to bribe for votes in November. AMd o fcourse, the Democrats use their standard, "oh they want to starve babies, children, women and thorw seniors off the cliff" balony. Haven't we heard that tune so many times?? After 3 years of this BS, anybody believing a word Obama and the Democrats say is a complete and total moron.

Im just heard bo ner on the radio. He was so incensed and is so indignant about how the rethugs are being portrayed. He says that money from funds for the poof had been used before! Really, you ignorant clown, so tha makes it okay to do againnwhen poor people are feeling the pinch more than eve.
You teapublikans are a bunch of pathetic useless creatures. I truly hope that the educated smart voters who don't fall for your crocodile tears, not the white trash who keeps voting against their own interest, wakes up come the next few election cycles and throws you all out on the street without the free perks congress gets on everything from parking to lunch.

Read Obamacare and you will see that the profits made from student loans is used for the funding of Obamacare.

Not a problem. Let's give Mitt Romney a chance at a rebuttal. Shall we? Let's be fair and square. Let's have Mitt Romney go on national television and explain how he plans to cut $1 trillion annually to pay for his 20% across the board tax cuts and the eilimination of capital gains taxes, which would lower his effective rate to near zero.

Wow, these Repubs are quite the piece of work ... raiding the fund that benefits women and children ... but God forbid we should ask the wealthy to pay their fair (62% of whom WANT to).

Let Obama veto the extension of LOWER interest rates for students – THEN we'll see whether he gets their vote or not !!!!

Nancy Pelosi is a no-account as far as I'm concerned. She is a self-serving hypocrite who SAYS she's a Catholic but is disloyal to her chosen Faith; she'll back Obama who's already promised students he'll $2 Trillion 'forgiveness" student loans when he KNOWS he can't do it and SHE'S party to that.

That bunch go well together! They'll finish America off between them.

The GOPits have spent us into a hole and now want the middle class to pay for their wastefulness and promotion of greed.
But the American People know who is waging war on them. Just like back when the same corpritists culture abused Americans during the 20-30s.

@The Real Truth and Nothing But Real Truth – "Obama and the Democrats want to spend, spend, spend and not pay for anything. It is one thing after another, for 3 years now."

So why is it OK for the GOP to fund the extension of students loan rates by taking away womens health benefits. Could have been EASILY paid for by the Buffett Rule taxex.. but god forbid a Repug would raise taxes. Unless of course it suits them like Reagan and Bush did. The hypocrisy shines thru in and election year. Talk about people buying into this line of bs being morons....

MarieMD – Boehner is RIGHT. The profits from student loans IS already being used to fund Obamacare. Because OBAMA doesn't want to admit what a b@lls he's made of it!

489 T was the Medicaid Trustees present value NET unfunded liability when Obamacare waspassed. On it's own it would be worse now

    BJUT
Obamacare is MUCH worse. Just 2% growth on $89 T would require that we tax OR Obamacare"save" nearly $2Trillion a yearjust to keep the number from growing. It wouldn't take anything off the debt.

What's good about THAT ??????? And that, my friend is why Obama will veto the GOP plan. What the GOP want to do is take back what Obama has 'borrowed' from student loans and give the money back to the STUDENTS!!!! Obamacare is NOT financially possible. He should have done his homework.

    1. "The Doc Fix" - A cut to doctors payments enacted over 10 years ago yet NEVER allowed to happen because it would cause many doctors to drop medicare patients. Imaginery savings still claimed???

    2. "The Payroll Tax Holiday" - A "temporary" cut to FICA taxes to further try and stimulate the sagging economy. Causes money available for social security to be less, and the government must now borrow more, and pay more interest. Extended because the economy is still bad after 3 years of Obama policies. Will it expire on Dec. 31? HA! Good luck with that!

    3. "Student Loan Rate reduction" – A "temporary" cut to the rate students pay on their student loans. What is going to be any different by the end of the year to warrant raising them. Another "Doc Fix" that never happens.

Anybody noticing a pattern of smoke and mirrors here??? Anybody noticing the lack of spine??? Anybody noticing extreme pandering here???

Wait a minute, all I've been hearing from the left since they lost the house was the GOP aren't putting forth any plans of their own and instead are only causing gridlock, which was bad then, but now suddenly it appears that gridlock is okay?

Nothing but more Obama lies to the American people. NAME THEM! Exactly WHAT health benefits will women lose? NONE. Obama is nothing but none stop lies and people like you spread them.

    >Could have been EASILY paid for by the Buffett Rule taxex..

Sorry, Obama has already spent this money 1,000 times over! This is less than $5 billion a year. Obama is running $1.5 TRILLION deficits!! Nothing but Obama diversionary lies to the American people for 3.5 years now. But when all you have done is proving to be a failure, you need to find scapegoats to blame and distract people.

The American people are not stupid and can do simple math even though Obamabots cannot. They know 4 more years of Obama and his lies will destroy what is left of this country.

You can't have freedom without affordable healthcare , you can't have decent healthcare without affordable education.

How much have we spent in Afghanistan and Iraq ?

Did you all miss this part of the article above..........."Obama will veto it, even "IF" the Senate Democrats support/vote for the Republicans' plan".

So, even "IF" Republicans AND Democrats support the plan put forth by the Republicans--Obama is going to veto it!!

Where's the budget Obama?? Oh that's right......You could not even get the Democrats to vote for it!!
