Boehner explains jabs at Obama as 'help'

Washington (CNN) – House Speaker John Boehner on Sunday described his amped-up rhetoric toward President Barack Obama in recent days as advice.

"The president is getting … some bad advice," Boehner said on CNN's "State of the Union." "Somebody needed to help him out, so I thought I would."

In the past week the top Republican accused Obama of losing courage and decreasing the standing of the presidency.

Boehner reiterated the opinions to CNN Chief Political Correspondent Candy Crowley on Sunday, saying Obama is "diminishing the presidency by picking fake fights, going after straw men every day."

The Ohio Republican said political gimmicks recently employed by the White House include support for the so-called Buffett Rule, a plan to apply a minimum tax rate of 30% on higher income earners; the president's rhetoric surrounding manipulation of the oil markets; and the debate over the extension of low student loan rates.

Looking to the 2012 election, he made the case for Mitt Romney, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, by pointing to his success in business and pushed back against the suggestion that Romney's privilege would be an obstacle in the November election.

"The American people don't want to vote for a loser. They don't want to vote for someone that hasn't been successful," Boehner said. "I think Mitt Romney has an opportunity to show the American people that they too can succeed."

Boehner also indicated he is optimistic Republicans will hold onto the majority in the House.

He recently said Democrats have a "one in three chance" of regaining control of the lower chamber, after previously saying it was "nearly impossible."

But Boehner said nothing has changed.

"Listen, if the election were held today, I'm very optimistic that we will hold onto the majority," Boehner said. "But my job is to make sure that even under the worst-case scenario, we're able to hold onto our majority."

"Lead, follow, or get out of the way" Boner can't seem to do any of these. It is totally laughable to see him (and Mitt) criticize an effective President.

Its amazing how these repubs can twist their behavior to let them seem human. Come on hornet, you couldn't get the rabid repubs to compromise even if you got 98 percent of what you wanted. What kind of house speaker are you.

"FedUp – Obama doesn't need any help. He is the media-proclaimed Messiah, adn he agrees. The Messiah knows all."

Another right-winger calling Obama the messiah. You guys seem to like deifying Obama on a regular basis. Really guys, he's only human, no matter what you think.

There are some that can't see the Forest for the Trees. Anyone that can't see that Obama is in over his head is blind in one eye and can't see out of the other. Obama has done everthing backwards and it is showing. Look at the unemployment picture. It is floundering. Goes down a half of a percent here and goes up a half of a percent there. Better take another look as the alternative isn't good. Obmaa has to go. He has a track record now. Bigger Government isn't the answer. Socalisim isn't the answer. Just ask the old Soviet Union. Wise up.

Go ahead, Obamamites, criticize the Republicans all you want. The only losers in the 2012 political races are my fellow Democrats, particularly the clueless/joker fellow at the front of the tickets.

HE has had four years to rescue America and the American dream. That "ain't" happened!!! Therefore, he has had to resort to jokes, finger pointing, and stupid accusations in order to justify his MIS status for the last four years.

We DO NOT need the "lamestream" media or the moronic Hollywood types to "tell" us who to support in the 2012 elections. Mr. Obama and his ilk have been underestimating the American populace for the last four years. It's time they hear from us, rather than us hearing from them. The 2012 elections, I opine, are the perfect time to let them know that we are the smartest voters in the world and that they will not be able to continue taking us for granted.

By the way, did you receive your invitation to have dinner with George (Clumsy) Clooney and Mr. Obama?! And, all for a three dollar ($3.00 ) contribution!!! And, it also includes all trip expenses and limo transportation to Mr. Clumsy's mansion. Wow!!!

I gave up on that one invitation. Oh well...

John Boehner knows no mater who is elected he has approx 7 months left as speaker. He is not trying to give Obama some help, but every time he and his group show their bias he is helping the President.
Why would Obama need help from a man who leads a group with 9% approvaal for the job they are doing. His leadership and those who were elected in 2010 show what happens when an inexperienced fanatical group (TParty) runs the House. Good thing elections are evry 2 years for them.

We need smaller government – unless it's for services that protect rich people and help them keep more of the money, then we need stronger government.

You do realize the corps are paying th same effective taxes as the 1960s right? Taxes need to be raised, we went to two wars and reduced taxes. How does that even make sense? There was a time when we were a country first and individuals second. Now we are all about job creators and opinion news.

As for the worst Speaker of the House in recent times,,,,,,Pelosi, an arrogant snobish person....As for Obama forget it. He promised an administration that would be more open....He promised less government,,,CZARS?..Obamacare more people decieding what you can have for medical care....Did anyone get a chance to see Obamacare on the internet before it was signed like Obama said things would be? Recently Obama made a plea to all Blacks to support him...had a white President said he wanted all whites to support him all H....would break loose..

    Obama is a fool.
    ---------------------

Absolutely not. The man knows how to give it back threefold. All the faux outrage over his jokes is just one area where all you haters fall lock step in line with your own misery. He shrugs, and all of you jump over yourselves to get back at him for using humor as a means of releasing tension. It's hilarious ... including using Seamus the dog, Sarah Palin, and his self decrepitating "our wife's are more popular than we are" lines. Considering all that has been thrown at him from the extremists over the past three years, I enjoy that he still can manage to laugh now and again.
