Washington (CNN) - It was probably only a matter of time - about 365 days, in fact - before the death of Osama bin Laden got into the political groundwater of 2012.
In a campaign ad for President Barack Obama, former President Bill Clinton praises Obama for approving the risky raid into Pakistan and suggests Mitt Romney wouldn't have.

John- yes, lets count how many times Bush missed Osama. At least Clinton warned Bush about the dangers of al Queda. Too bad he didn't lsiten.
Im sorry, but the FACT is alot of people around Obama did NOT want to do the operation in fear of failure. Obama MADE THE DECISION. In EIGHT LONG years, bush failed, and cost us BILLIONS of dollars, and THOUSANDS of lives in IRAQ!!! He has a RIGHT to tout that victory. Playing politics is having the republican convention being held in NY around sept 11th! THAT IS PLAYING POLITICS BUSH LOVERS. Playing politics is Guiliani using 9/11 to get votes for president. I understand republicans are miserable that their guy was a failure, but DEAL WITH IT! Obama 2012
Bush did the same campaign story when he caught Sadam Hussien. I can remeber vividly that was closed to election period. President Obama can use the same accomplishment to bolstering his political advantage. A promise made is a promise kept. Obama/Biden 2012, the only way out.
Not sure which is more disgusting, GOPers blaming Obama for actually getting OBL (else why all the anti-Obama outrage over what was a very successful mission), or the media for allowing Mitt Romney to turn it into a three ring circus.
Both Mitt and the media are equally reprehensible, I suspect.
Linda
The GOP would have claimed it a National Holiday if they had killed OBL under a Republican President.

You are ABSOLUTELY correct! The GOP is a joke!
@Blindersoff – from a prior post you say the Obama is doing a good job. If you think this administration is good, you must think that the Jimmy Carter administration was great. You need to stop watching ABC, CBS and NBC, welcome to reality; the Obama depression is going to be around for quite some time, the next president, Romney and his administration will find this mess very difficult to fix.

They didn't say Romney would not have ordered the raid.

Actually, Robert Gibbs said that. When questioned on the remark, Gibbs pointed out that those were Romney's own words from a fall 2007 debate. Romney said he would not go into Pakistan if he had actionable intelligence. Sen. Obama said that he would go into Pakistan under those conditions, which is exactly what he did.
Most of the guns went to Mexican drug cartels....thanks again Obama
Romney should be held accountable for his own words–flip flops and all. It unfortunately illustrates Mitt's stark inconsistencies as a politician.
John- if all network news is off the table for you to "see" reality, that means you must be living in your own deluded little world. What in blue blazes does Jimmy Carter have to do with anything? This is about Mr. Obama talking about a highly successful raid against an enemy of America that went on far too long under Mr. Bush. And sorry- the Depression that began in 2007 began under President Bush and the fact the GOP has not lifted one finger to help in the last 4 years means it is STILL Mr. Bush's depression. Really- you're memory....
@Andrea Sharp – where is the list of Obama accomplishments? You’re kidding right! You’re not including Obamacare where 70 plus percent of the population is against Obamacare. Has to be a very short list.
nobama 2012- the 68,000 guns that got to Mexico got there through legal gun sales in the U.S. The Gun Walking program that got guns to Mexico began under President Bush. What this has to do with this discussion beats me- but as you brought it up-please get your facts straight!
more childish schoolyard politics by republicans – more bs

Please stop watching Fox propaganda. In reality, Pres. Obama was steadily able to save our country from the Great Recession, overseeing 26 consecutive months of private sector job creation.
Obama/Biden 2012
Seems much more likely from Romney's bellicose rhetoric that, instead of making the Bin Laden call, he would probably have ordered a full-on invasion of Pakistan.
Ed Gillespie called the raid "something that was a unifying event for all Americans," yet at the time few repugs gave President Obama any credit for the raid. They even wanted to credit W for the raid. They tried to use the raid itself to divide America.
Obama kept his promise to hunt down and kill Osama bIn Laden. The GOP (Greed Over People) need to get over it.
OBAMA 2012!

I think the American Voter gets credit for saving our country from The Great Recession and skyrocketing unemployment. When did it actually begin coming down from over 10%? Exactly on The Great Shellacking. November 2010.
@RS – the US economy, housing market, job market and unemployment were doing fine, after having to recover from the 2001 attack. Look at the statics following the Democrats take over of Congress in 2007, indicators began to decline right up until the 2008 election, the 2008/2009 collapse.
Four – Once again, you are wrong as usual.
The GOP hates President Obama. That puts them in the category with al Qaida, the Taliban, North Korea, Iran. Quite a big tent for the republicans.
Larry L said "...and started the war with no plan and no exit strategy".........
Four/Door says "And won".
Exactly what did we win?
Thousands of lives lost.
Thousands of troops wounded severely.
The largest, most expensive Embassy in the World.
Halliburton's fortunes.
No oil revenues.
A deficit that will take years to pay for.
Again, what did we win?
And, under other articles opinions.........you get articles such as this........."Obama's politicization of Bin Laden Raid Looks Pathetic and Desperate".
Obama using Bin Laden's death is a sign of pure desperation on his part. He can't talk about the 20 million people he has kept unemployed for a record length of time.
A better Obama slogan would be:
Obama 2012: Killed Bin Laden, now Killing our Economy.
The GOP has turned into a rather sorry joke. They have their own reality wherein anything anyone else does is worthy of complaint and ridicule while they have spent 4 years furiously working against the best interests of America. All of you parroting Lord Limbaugh on the lack of accomplishments in the Obama Administration need to look at the GOP. What have they done? Delayed thousands of federal judge and adminstrative postions from being filled (now 4 years and counting); kept alive obscene tax cuts for the very wealthy, and for oil companies; fiddled with women's medical rights; obstructed virtually every piece of legislation in the Senate. They have signed pledges to Grover Norquist and his merry bad of radical, anti- tax rich guys; pledges against unions, minimum wages, and all sorts of religious extremists.
The GOP has done nothing for the middle class and poor. Placing Romney (worth well of $250 million (with another $100 million in trust funds for his boys) out there as their Presidential candidate speak volumes. The GOP will never do anything for the majority of Americans ever again!
