In Afghanistan, Obama pledges cooperation, vows to 'finish the job'

Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) - President Barack Obama, speaking early Wednesday in Afghanistan at the tail end of a surprise visit there, discussed how the war will end and promised a steady drawdown of U.S. troops.

Obama committed to pulling 23,000 troops out of the country by the end of summer and sticking to the 2014 deadline to turn security fully over to the Afghan government. He said that NATO will set a goal this month for Afghan forces to be in the lead for combat operations next year.

I don't like this. You picked the wrong day, Barack. Yup, wrong day to live up to the negative narrative.

Mr. President, please end the US military adventuring, end tribunals like you promised, close Guantanamo like you promised, stop bombing villages. The US is in sad shape if assassination, even if popular, is the best advertisement for a campaign.

    Be the liberal you promised.

Remember Nixon was shown to be a villain for military adventuring in countries with which we were not at war.

Why not wait until we see what he has to say. Maybe he will be announcing withdrawal of troops.

I guess he flew in to remind everyone he personally took down OBL. It might shock the SEALS but the media will help spread the propoganda.

Our president is doing exactly the right thing. You nay sayers ought to proud of him. Way to go Mr. President. OBAMA/BIDEN 2012 Let Mitts top that, by the way, you are not going to be able to win by lying.

Good job Mr. President. Thank you for giving the order to take this monster down. Thank you to Seal Team 6 and all of our military for protecting us and our freedom. I'm sure the baggers/rethugs will be complaining but President Obama has every right to tout his accomplishments. After all it was during the worst president in history's term that America was attacked. This same crew of people drilled into our heads daily that OBL was the worst terrorist ever and we had to do everything we could to eliminate him. Yet they couldn't locate him right next to Pakistans equivalent to West Point. Yeah right. But they did instill fear in each and every one of us that we could and would be attacked again. They changed the threat level more than Mittens changes stances. And now that the anniversary of this terrible, rotten mass murderers death is here they don't want the President to remind people that the very same man the rethugs said was the worst threat to us is gone. If you look hypocrite up in the dictionary I'm sure you will see a picture of the rethuglican party.

    OBAMA 2012!

Not fair ! Next, he'll put on a flight suit & land on an air craft carrier w/a huge banner proclaiming MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. And then we'll hear the Repubs. squeal !

Do any of you naysayers think Bush wouldn't have done this also if he took out Bin Laden? The reality however is that Bush DIDN'T take him out even having 8 years to do so and if McCain was now President he wouldn't have either because the neo-cons needed Bin Laden to keep the "war of terror" alive and well and to use Al Queda for the next big war front. President Obama said if he had the right opportunity that he would get OBL and he did. I'm very sure the vast majority of our soldiers and most other Americans are overjoyed that OBL is no longer a threat.

It doesn't matter what he has to say. He could be announcing we made contact with aliens from space who can cure energy and hunger, and the conservatives would still make an issue out of him spiking the football.

The Taliban will re-take A-stan in less than 30 days after the US and allies depart, and they can have it. Karzai stole the last election and is no better than any other two-bit tyrant. The Afghan troops will not be willing to die for him, and the civilians will not support him with intel. It will be all too much like the fall of Saigon, and Obama doesn't want it to happen just before the election. So we keep pretending that Karzai is a legitimately elected leader and Karzai keeps pretending that he will be able to defeat the Taliban on his own.

Sleazy people are filing a class-action law suit against obama. The point of their suit is that obama is giving sleazy people a bad name. Every day in every way he is more pathetic and grotesque.

ok getting ready for all the negative talk from the right of this being a "photo op" and spiking the football. I think it's good for the CinC to go and visit the troops that are protecting our nation. I bet if he had a chance to go there and it leaked out somehow he refused to go......he would STILL be attacked from the right so it really make no difference here.
