Romney links Obama economic policies to Carter

Chantilly, Virginia (CNN) - At a small business in a northern Virginia suburb, Mitt Romney compared President Barack Obama's economic policies Wednesday to one-term Democratic President Jimmy Carter.

"Who would have guessed we would look back at the Carter years as the good old days," Romney said, after calling the Obama administration "the most anti-small business administration I've seen probably since Carter."

It was the second time this week that Romney has invoked Carter in criticizing Obama. On Monday he was asked whether he would have issued the same order as the president for the mission to kill Osama bin Laden. Romney said "even Jimmy Carter would" have made that decision.

In Wednesday's remarks, Romney, a longtime businessman and former Massachusetts governor, suggested Obama's failed policies were a result of his lack of business experience.

"What the president has done – and I think unknowingly never having spent any time in the private sector himself is – what the president did was – one item after another, make it harder and harder for small business to thrive and to grow and start up."

As Obama returned from a surprise trip to Afghanistan, Romney has used his appearances to focus on the state of the economy.

"Americans are tired of being tired of this economy and of this president and they want real change," said Romney.

Ann Romney introduced her husband at the event, which was held at a woman-owned business and geared toward women and the economy. In the midst of female entrepreneurs and businesswomen she said, "women actually do make the world go round."

Surrounded by materials in a warehouse for the company, Exhibit Edge, Romney told the audience people often ask the two-time presidential candidate what he would do to improve the economy.

"Look at what the president's done and do the opposite," he said.

    Well, what has the president done to hurt small businesses? Oh...you can't tell us what. No surprise here.

    So, Mitt won't tell people what he will do to improve the economy but keeps crying like a baby about it? Pathetic.

    Compared to Obama, Carter was an economic powerhouse. Sigh... well, it took a Carter to get us a Reagan.

    Romney is going to be his party's nominee, why does he keep picking on President Carter? Might he be afraid that he may not become President, or that if he does he would be the coming of the second Carter? He should be so lucky and that capable. So far, no one is sure of his capability/lack thereof; AND NO! Being a rapid capitalist does not count. Mitt, (Mitten), keeps using President Carter in an attempt to psychologically undermine the sitting President. His approach makes him look like a daft, non-starter who has to pick on others in order to raise his personal profile with the man in the mirror. Daft, ill mannered and did I mention DAFT?

    Obama = Carter
    Carter = Failure

    Therefore Obama = Failure

    It's all very mathematically logical.

    This man has no concept about anything for the future. He wants to keep things just the way they are so that he can line the pockets of those thousand dollar suits he wears. For someone who wants to be president he doesn't have a clue about here and now. After six years of running you would think that his intelligence would move up a notch. This man is living in the past and the words that come out of his own mouth proves it. Like Ann says he still reminds her of that young boy that she met. He needs to grow up. Mitt this is not a monoply game. T

    he STILL won't say what he would do. It's always "Obama this. Obama that." He is pathetic but the sheep will still say "yes master" and pull the lever like good little drones. And yet another picture of people standing behind him that look like they'd give money to be somewhere else

    Funny, how he complains but doesn't offer any real solutions. He would do the opposite. Under Obama, taxes were cut, so does that mean you'll raise taxes Mittens? Does that also mean you stand by your statement that you would have let the auto industry fail?
    Obama saved the auto industry. Romney would have let it die. One of Romney's favorite memories is when his dad moved manufacturing from one state to another state.

    Someone needs to tell Romney that it's time to stop whining about what the president has not done and it's time to start being specific about what he will do to change things. Oh, yeah! That's right. He doesn't want the American people to know that his policy decisions will be the ones that help the richest among us and leave the rest to fend for themselves. Maybe, like his suggestion to young people in starting their own business, they can borrow $20,000 or so from mommy and daddy. The man is an empty suit who only knows how to peddle the same old' failed policies of trickle down economics. WHen are the American people going to stop allowing people like Romney to take us for fools??

    How true. At least Carter knew peanuts. What does Obama know? Academic law. The odd thing is that his specialty was Constitutional Law and this is what will probably shoot down ObamaCare, the "crowning achievement" of his administration. He must have forgotten about the division of federal and state powers. Well, thank goodness it is 2012.

    Or how it really went; Obama spent $50 billion of federal tax money to try and avoid bankruptcy for Chrysler and General Motors and that failed. They did go bankrupt. What next? He did exactly what Mitt Romney said to do from the beginning...take them through a managed bankruptcy. Were you just not paying attention?

    But Obama's way he told Americans it wouldn't cost the taxpayers a dime. Actually, taxpayers right now are still out $25 billion. Someone should ask him if he expects to get that back by election day. The answer will be no.

    So, he would do the opposite? Does that mean we get get years of economic contraction with Romney?

    Seriously, has he got the ability to frame his arguments for what he will actually do in any form other than a putdown? When he was governor, he raised fees on everything that moved in MA, from hunting licenses to a gas retailer's tax: that is, when he was even bothered to work at the job he was elected to. He spent so much time out of state his last 2 years that the good people of MA sent him out with an approval rating of about 30%. For a salesman, he certainly has a lousy pitch.
