Romney links Obama economic policies to Carter

Chantilly, Virginia (CNN) - At a small business in a northern Virginia suburb, Mitt Romney compared President Barack Obama's economic policies Wednesday to one-term Democratic President Jimmy Carter.

"Who would have guessed we would look back at the Carter years as the good old days," Romney said, after calling the Obama administration "the most anti-small business administration I've seen probably since Carter."

It was the second time this week that Romney has invoked Carter in criticizing Obama. On Monday he was asked whether he would have issued the same order as the president for the mission to kill Osama bin Laden. Romney said "even Jimmy Carter would" have made that decision.

In Wednesday's remarks, Romney, a longtime businessman and former Massachusetts governor, suggested Obama's failed policies were a result of his lack of business experience.

"What the president has done – and I think unknowingly never having spent any time in the private sector himself is – what the president did was – one item after another, make it harder and harder for small business to thrive and to grow and start up."

As Obama returned from a surprise trip to Afghanistan, Romney has used his appearances to focus on the state of the economy.

"Americans are tired of being tired of this economy and of this president and they want real change," said Romney.

Ann Romney introduced her husband at the event, which was held at a woman-owned business and geared toward women and the economy. In the midst of female entrepreneurs and businesswomen she said, "women actually do make the world go round."

Surrounded by materials in a warehouse for the company, Exhibit Edge, Romney told the audience people often ask the two-time presidential candidate what he would do to improve the economy.

"Look at what the president's done and do the opposite," he said.

Romney's economic policies are the same as those of the Roaring '20s. We all know how that ended.

For you lame GOPers dissing the investment for green jobs. China has many failed solar companies and now one stands out as the leader. It took some time but they embraced it despite the failures. STOP being ignorant. Do you think that every time the people whom drill for oil or dug for coal strikes back in the day had a high percentage of success?
Understand that I work for a billion dollar steel company and not all investments for new ways of providing steel, recycling scrap, expanding, & etc. were not the best decisions. But you keep trying. It's easier when everyone is all in.
But your GOP is paid off by big oil to trash a man that has authorized more drilling....See they don't strike black gold easily because we only have 2% of the world's oil....yet we use 25%......Man, are you people ignorant? Got it you failed math.

I think that Gov. Romney is reacting to former President Carter's suggestion that once in office he will behave moderately as opposed to acting like a tea party extermist.

Jeremy, you certainly scare easily. You should give that some thought. Why would such a handsome, well spoken, charismatic, honest, (he has not pillaged the public purse), sophisticated, well read, hot man scare you? Ah! Silly me, he scares you because of all of the above, right? I find it funny how it is not the genetics of the President that scares those who do not care for him; though his superior personal tool kit does. My, my,my.....Somehow the reasons why you do not like him does not appear to stop you from liking basket ball players, sprinters, gulfers, tennis players of the same genetic hue, but with less education and sophistication right? And without the chutzpaz to become President?. Yes, I said it, because CNN does allow it as "free speech" when others on here infer the genetics issue as a reason to criticize and undermine him all the time. Lets see how free my speech is according to the standards set for those who will starve or those who will eat where these comments are concerned. I know it is okay on here to HATE on the POTUS, it will be interesting to note if it is okay to celebrate him and all that he is. Genetics and All!

I don't see why anyone would be able to tell the difference between Carter and Obama both were in way over their heads and continue to destroy this Country.

Mittens is looking more and more like a store mannequin or a deer in the headlights. He has flip-flopped so many times he no longer remembers what he's doing or where he's at.

Pres. Carter served as Pres. after Nixon/Ford era. The nation was reeling from Vietnam and Watergate, tough duty for anyone, but Carter stepped up. He served 10 years in the U.S.Navy. Mittens will not serve as Pres. , just as he would not serve his country in uniform. He preferred to spend '66, '67, and half of '68 in France. What a patriot, what a man, what a shame! And this is what the lil GOP has come to be, a party ran by the rich for the rich with no forward looking agenda except their obsessive passion for no taxes on them: the money-grubbers, the job creators, the Rambos(in their dreams), and the anti-people(yes, anti-people), and the faux Christians. They are in need for a giant-sized dose of humility and it is on the way this November, a dose that will pale in comparison to what is coming on judgement day. Pres. Obama ordered Special Forces to Pakistan to get Bin Laden, something Mittens stated in '08 that he would not do because Pakistan was our ally. Mittens cannot be faulted for being scared of the Pakistanis, he is scared of his on shadow, a characteristic inherited by his 5 Kittens. He is unworthy of consideration for a vote for POTUS.

OK, the gloves are off because it was the Republicans who don't want Obama talking about the Bush years but it's OK for Romney to talk about the Carter years. We are going to have a good time with Repugs now and we haven't even started.

Even if it were true, I'd rather have Carter's economic ideas than Bush's. And we all know where Romney stands. Or actually, we don't. Let's see, what time is it?

Well, since Romney is getting together the Bush team again, it will be SO easy to link him to the failed Bush policies that got us into this mess in the first place....

The Pander King is really trying to win women over, too bad they know all of his policies are economic rat poison. Does he not know Carter is alive and will eventually weigh in on Romney's lack of leadership and propensity to lie about...everything? Right wingers don't even know what Romney's policies are, and I don't think he can ride to the White House on the backs of all the rednecks who hate Obama alone. He already flopped on student loan reform, he'll flop on the Lilly Ledbetter act next. "Of course I would have signed the bill! Even Jimmy Carter would have!" Yeah right, loser.

What a sad man Romney is. Carter complimented him the other day by saying he prefers a Democrat but he wouldn't be afraid of a Romney Presidency and what does Romney do? Attack Jimmy Carter. I bet Carter is sorry now that he ever said anything remotely decent about Romney. I hate to say this, but that's what Carter gets.

What I would do? People ask me, `What would you to get the economy going'? and I say, `well look at what the president's done, and do the opposite,'" Romney told a group gathered at a warehouse in Northern Virginia.

CNN left out that part. If elected President, Mitt will go back to the Bush policies.

Romney talks about ""the most anti-small business administration I've seen...". How many small stationers and Dunder-Miflins did Staples put out of business? How about mom & pop sporting goods stores did Sports Authority drive under? Romney loves *big* business.

  21. Mitt Romney The Etch-a-Sketch Offshore Account Candidate

Mitt Romney economics policies are George W. Bush policies on steroids. HOW did George W. Bush work out for us AMERICA? Bush was a terrible president he will go down as one of America worse presidents. President Carter did not get shoes thrown at him, lie about why we went to war and under his leadership he didn’t collapse our economy. PERIOD! George W. Bush damn near destroyed this country. The GOP policies are failed policies and it’s been proven they do not work. Every time a GOP get into office the country is worse off when they leave office. That being the case why would you want to go back and re-do the same failed policies. We need new and fresh policies to help this economy. No fake policies… only to help the 1% quality of life how about helping all AMERICANS as a whole. Trickledown economics did not & do not work, just like Mitt Romney’s sticking to a position for more than a day or two. AMERICA do not forget what a George W. Bush Adm. looked like and what they did to our economy. Then you should know what a Mitt Romney Presidency would bring us. Sheer Horror!
