Perry: ‘God help us’ if Romney doesn’t win

(CNN) – If the voters who supported his presidential bid aren’t fired up to support Mitt Romney, the GOP had “better get a fire going,” Rick Perry said Thursday.

“God help us if he doesn’t win,” Perry said in an interview on Fox News.

The Republican Texas governor looked beyond differences that emerged on the campaign trail between himself and the former Massachusetts governor, including the financial industry bailout designed to keep “too big to fail” banks above water.

“I think he understands that too big to fail – and I’ve heard him say that on numerous occasions – is not appropriate, and that the economic models of supply and demand - they work,” Perry said.

The issue of bank bailouts made under the administration of President George W. Bush, however, may be a lasting difference between Perry and Romney. While Romney has said he opposed federal bailout of the auto industry – arguing in his “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt” op-ed that a process of managed bankruptcy would serve the company better – he said as recently as March that the financial industry bailout was a different matter.

“There was a different occurrence that happened at the end of President Bush’s term, and this was that there was a concern in the country that all of the banks were going to go out of business, that there was going to be a run on the banks,” Romney said in Arbutus, Maryland. Concerned with the stability of large banks, he said companies were prepared to pull millions of dollars from their accounts, and with that “there was a fear that the whole economic system of America would collapse.”

Perry had a different take on bailouts on Thursday. “Whether it’s Wall Street or motor companies, is bad public policy.”

When he withdrew from the presidential race after a disappointing finish in the Iowa caucuses, Perry threw his support to former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who ended his own bid this week. As the nomination appeared increasingly to be going Romney’s way, Perry made a late April announcement that he would back Romney.

But should Romney not win in November, Perry may have yet another run up his sleeve. He said in February that the 2012 debates “could be” preparation for a White House run in 2016.

that's the problem- asking or expecting a mythical figure to provide aid when the individuals either refuse to or won't. God doesn't care folks. We are just a minor blurb in the Cosmos and he is simply collecting data. You think any rational being of any type would let this mess go on unobstructed if he or she or it was actually watching? Of course the supposed diety could be laughing it's tukus off at our absurdity.

He meant to say God help us rich people hold on to all our money because Obama wants to make us pay our fair share.. that's really what he meant to say...

These guys are narcissistic svengalis taking advantage of, and manipulating, the primitive herding insincts within us to incite fear for their own personal agrandizement. Objective rational analysis is not found in their tool bags.

Fortunately God is far smarter, wiser, loving, merciful and humane than Rick Perry. I frankly doubt She listens to his opinions at all.

He and Ted Nugent should start a crazy cult. The Amboy Duke could be the prez and Perry could be the VP.

Poor Rick...he does not understand "G_d" or much of anything.
If "G_D" could control our political process we would help the poor and the old. All would have access to health care.
G_D Help Us if Mitt becomes President. G_D help the woman, the old and the poor if republicans gain control.

Another Republican clown making an irrelevent "endorsement". Rick Oops Perry is as insignificant to the presidential race as all the other Republican clowns: Cain, Bachman, Santorum, Gingrinch, Paul, Huntsman, Palin, Trump, and most of all Romney. Obama will win in November to continue the recovery from the failed Bush-Republican experiment that caused the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.

God will help us if Romney doesn't win. Obama will be re-elected! That's enough divine intervention for me.

It seems to me that God is already helping us by getting rid of the candidates that were using his name to get elected.

In 2000, I moved to Texas from California. So, I've lived here for the past 12 years. I have never known of a more unknowledgeable politician than Perry. The fact that he was even a candidate for the GOP nomination is almost unbelievable. He knows zero about economics. "God help us if Romney doesn't win"??? Are you SERIOUS??? Bush was President for EIGHT years. You see where the Milton Friedman, monetarist, zero regulation, etc., etc., approach led us. More of that is GOOD? The current batch of Republicans--and I used to be one-are nothing but a bunch of disingenuous/lying (you pick one) homophobic, mysogynistic, Bible Thumping ideologues. Yeah, I'm sure gonna vote for the Republicans this year.

By "us," of course, he means the GOP. Not the USA, which would be better off.

Earlier comment by RS, CA stated : "All these poor folks who have trouble believing in something bigger than themselves (no matter what name you give it!). And yet they worship this man Obama without question! Sure, that makes sense!?"

What do you mean by "worship". This man Obama, was elected to be our President and he has proven to be a wise leader in the face of an chnages of inheriting an economy in free fall and relentless opposion by the GOP.

The idea that you would refer to him as "this man" speaks to the hate in your heart.

That you refer to those who look up to him as "worshiping him" indicates that you have a mind closed to any possibility other then the hate in your heart ... typical Tea Partier, votes against your self interest out of fear and hate.

It always amazes to see "God" used as a con to reach people, to excite them and to manipulate them. Those who concentrate on serving the interests of "the few", their strong supporters and controllers, do so without conscience and then try to reach the people by invoking religion ... simply disgusting, and hopefully people have become sick of it, wise to it and insulted by it and are not so naive as to be swayed by it.

Oh the humanity if Obama wins again!
Some rich people might have to sacrifice a teensy bit more! OH NOEZ!
(not that they've been asked to sacrifice anything yet, unlike everyone else)

Yeeesss, yeeesss, because SOOOO much has really changed under Obama. We're no doubt living in a communist dystopia, albeit a very funny sort of one where banks and corporations make record profits.
