Perry: ‘God help us’ if Romney doesn’t win

(CNN) – If the voters who supported his presidential bid aren’t fired up to support Mitt Romney, the GOP had “better get a fire going,” Rick Perry said Thursday.

“God help us if he doesn’t win,” Perry said in an interview on Fox News.

The Republican Texas governor looked beyond differences that emerged on the campaign trail between himself and the former Massachusetts governor, including the financial industry bailout designed to keep “too big to fail” banks above water.

“I think he understands that too big to fail – and I’ve heard him say that on numerous occasions – is not appropriate, and that the economic models of supply and demand - they work,” Perry said.

The issue of bank bailouts made under the administration of President George W. Bush, however, may be a lasting difference between Perry and Romney. While Romney has said he opposed federal bailout of the auto industry – arguing in his “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt” op-ed that a process of managed bankruptcy would serve the company better – he said as recently as March that the financial industry bailout was a different matter.

“There was a different occurrence that happened at the end of President Bush’s term, and this was that there was a concern in the country that all of the banks were going to go out of business, that there was going to be a run on the banks,” Romney said in Arbutus, Maryland. Concerned with the stability of large banks, he said companies were prepared to pull millions of dollars from their accounts, and with that “there was a fear that the whole economic system of America would collapse.”

Perry had a different take on bailouts on Thursday. “Whether it’s Wall Street or motor companies, is bad public policy.”

When he withdrew from the presidential race after a disappointing finish in the Iowa caucuses, Perry threw his support to former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who ended his own bid this week. As the nomination appeared increasingly to be going Romney’s way, Perry made a late April announcement that he would back Romney.

But should Romney not win in November, Perry may have yet another run up his sleeve. He said in February that the 2012 debates “could be” preparation for a White House run in 2016.

God help us if the GOP wins the presidency.

With the GOP exhibiting that their main position is against whatever the President supports, how will they continue to present themselves if the economy continues to improve?

The fact is the GOP could care less about the middle class. As it focuses its entire support around America's richest and big business, the writing is on the wall. As with "W", who couldn't fathom the depth of the economic storm that was approaching, handing out small "tax incentive payments" in his last two years in hopes that it would somehow save the GOP. Well, that didn't happen, but the beauty of the plan is that the new President would be left in office with the seeds of failure already planted.

I try to maintain a center position in all this, but as the GOP's main platform has been the Obama has failed (regardless of the fact that if he hadn't done what he did, the effect would have been catastrophic), their continue protection of America's richest, protection of "big business" interests, illusion that "trickle down economics" will work... you've gotta question their logic.

While I realize that everything a President (Obama included) does isn't perfect, we can only fully understand the effect after years have passed and the full effect of their administration is revealed. At least this President isn't using the fear that we'll be totally detroyed by terrorists if he doesn't get elected... he's already taken care of that problem.

Seeing as this is coming from a man who could not out-debate Mittens in the GOP Primaries (yes, the candidate with zero plan, ideas or clue on any type of agenda) I find this to be quite funny...Well Rick, start praying, Mittens loses by double digits come November.

I've lived in Texas, and I will definitely NOT support any candidate that this fool supports.
He has made a mess of that state. I would like nothing more than to see the women and Latino voters turn out in force to turn Texas blue! Then perhaps some good changes could begin to happen in Texas.

Princess Perry needs to call on someone that obviously holds him in higher esteem, than does God.

After all, God apparently lied to Perry when He told him "he was called to run for the GOP nominee" and that prayer for rain confab, to end the drought, caused the entire county of Bastrop to burn to a crisp.

Gosh Rick I had no idea that God was a Republican. Well we must not worship the same one because the Great I AM that pray would NOT support things like the Ryan Budget that takes money and services away from the poor and those down on their luck and gives it to the wealthy that don't need it. He also wants us to treat each other fairly and stop being judgemental. And there are those on your right wing side that don't even think Romney is a Christian. All this stuff about what God wants is nothing more than fear mongering and the right knows it. But as the saying went in the old tv show Maude..."God's gonna GET YOU for that!"

God help us if he does win! we'll be headed back to the disastrous policies that almost destroyed us and the global economy. how can any sane individual look at the Bush/Cheney regime and think that was a good period for our country????? we gave up peace and prosperity for a huge deficit, two unfunded wars, the rich getting richer and the rest of us getting poorer. Obama rescued us from the brink of another Great Depression and all that work will be in vain if we don't let him finish the job AND give him people in congress who will work with him instead of building brick walls against him and our national recovery. no repug deserves to be elected or re-elected this year. they are the enemies of this great country! they cannot and will not govern. how much more do they have to do to prove that?

He has a point. If Obama wins re-election, then God help the GOP. Four more years of economic growth and decreasing unemployment, of pulling the country back towards the center, and behaving like a leader of the world community instead of a bully would be terrible for the GOP. Of course, if Romney somehow wins, God help the middle class!
