Perry: ‘God help us’ if Romney doesn’t win

(CNN) – If the voters who supported his presidential bid aren’t fired up to support Mitt Romney, the GOP had “better get a fire going,” Rick Perry said Thursday.

“God help us if he doesn’t win,” Perry said in an interview on Fox News.

The Republican Texas governor looked beyond differences that emerged on the campaign trail between himself and the former Massachusetts governor, including the financial industry bailout designed to keep “too big to fail” banks above water.

“I think he understands that too big to fail – and I’ve heard him say that on numerous occasions – is not appropriate, and that the economic models of supply and demand - they work,” Perry said.

The issue of bank bailouts made under the administration of President George W. Bush, however, may be a lasting difference between Perry and Romney. While Romney has said he opposed federal bailout of the auto industry – arguing in his “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt” op-ed that a process of managed bankruptcy would serve the company better – he said as recently as March that the financial industry bailout was a different matter.

“There was a different occurrence that happened at the end of President Bush’s term, and this was that there was a concern in the country that all of the banks were going to go out of business, that there was going to be a run on the banks,” Romney said in Arbutus, Maryland. Concerned with the stability of large banks, he said companies were prepared to pull millions of dollars from their accounts, and with that “there was a fear that the whole economic system of America would collapse.”

Perry had a different take on bailouts on Thursday. “Whether it’s Wall Street or motor companies, is bad public policy.”

When he withdrew from the presidential race after a disappointing finish in the Iowa caucuses, Perry threw his support to former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who ended his own bid this week. As the nomination appeared increasingly to be going Romney’s way, Perry made a late April announcement that he would back Romney.

But should Romney not win in November, Perry may have yet another run up his sleeve. He said in February that the 2012 debates “could be” preparation for a White House run in 2016.

  1. The REAL Truth.. (not the imposter)

    @Jerry – "Stay tuned..."
    ---------------–
    blah, blah, blah, Obama Bad.. is the only thing the Repugs and the Grand Obstructionist Party have done in 3.5 yrs. They caused the debt rating downgrade, have ACA (mostly their own plan, based on MA's Robmeycare) locked up in the right-leaning SCOTUS. They have offered up the Ryan (ripoff) budget, that has a wonderful (unfunded) across the board tax cut of 20%. Woo-eee.. that means folks like Mittens, McConnell, Ryan, Boeher et al, will actually pay NO tax under it. It will also generate a $1.4T deficit in it's first year.
    There's nothing to stay tuned for. The party of "NO" has no platform, no candidate and no chance in Nov. Stay tuned...

    -Democrat Class Warfare – Destroying the economy, destroying the country

    ThinkAgain – I just figured out why all you tighty righties use "Democrat" as an adjective rather than "Democratic:
    =======================================================================================
    It is quite intentional and no, you didn't figure anything out Obamabot. The Democrat Party is the furthest thing in the world from "democratic". You leftists thugs are a minority in this country yet you con people and buy votes to foist your pathetically inferior and failed ideology on the greatest country in the world. You don not know how to create and build, only how to take and destroy. The "level playing field" you strive to inflict on the country is a field of losers, not of winners.

    American did not become the greatest country on the planet by giving everybody a trophy for just showing up.
    American did not become the greatest country on the planet by taking from those that work 16 hours a day to gve to those that sleep 16 hours a day.

    If you want something then work for it. Don't expect the government to steal it from others and lay it on your doorstep.
    *********************************************
    There has to be a job or an opportunity there in order for your thesis to work, jackwagon. Your lot have done everything to ensure no one gets ahead, then you market that as freedom: brilliant, but perverted. Nothing I have not grown to expect from the epople who live in states that take more from the feds than they put in. Conservatives are the parasites on the body of this country.

    I'm sure Perry thinks God really will step in and save him after Obama gets reelected. Just look at how much time/money/effort he put into fighting forest forest with prayer instead of silly secular things like proper funding for fire fighters.

    God DID HELP US when the other 7 nut jobs dropped out of the race. Defeating Mitt the Romulan with his pathetic ideas will be a cinch now. Even Mickey Mouse would be a better candidate.

    Dear Rick. God helped us by letting you fall flat on your face. He also entertained us by letting you talk out loud. He also calmed us by letting you appear so stupid that there was no way you could win. He also guided us by showing you in chaps. Most of all, God showed us the Way by making Fox News a beacon of how not to waste your life.

    Well, Rick.. your god didn't help you with your draught even after your huge prayer event. Then all you folks who said your god wanted you to run for president had to drop out because your own party had different ideas. Who are you asking him to help now? The American people.. or the Republican party? Because after 6 years of the Republicans having control of congress and the white house we didn't end up with heaven on earth and a booming economy. We ended up with crumbling infrastructure, record debt, larger government, the longest war in US history in a place described as where empires go to die, a huge wealth disparity, and an economy in the toilet. Yes, Rick... god help the American people... to keep Republicans out of office.

    Perry pretty much proved he's a total clown during the primaries. Most folks in college understand economic concepts better than he does. And he used to be a bigtime democrat. He's a pure opportunist and was exposed! Heck, even the Bush guys like Rove always said Perry's dumber than dirt.

    The dope from Texas reported on Faxcist News today, that GOD will help America if Romney Inc, corporate liquidating specialist, is NOT elected POTUS.

    Faxcist News responded with 'no comment' as to why they allowed OOPS-Man access to a live microphone.

    In other breaking news, Faxcist News godfather Ailes refused to mention recent allegations against his personal god, Rupert Murdoch, of being criminal and incompetent. No News at six, carry on.

  19. Blah blah the wheel's off your trailer

    The unemployment rate is down to 8.1 percent and the GOP are still critical of the President's handling of the economy! Well, I wonder what they will say when the unemployment rate drops below 8%? O' and Mitt? Well, he has all the answers! Mitt would have created 14 million American jobs in his first 100 days in office! I find it ironic that two years later, his republican friends supporting his presidential bid are yet to create one single American job! Hypocrisy! And by the way, what would possibly have been President Obama's success rate had he not have to deal with Iraq, Afghanistan and a very divided congress? Let's face it, a black man's job is this country is always a hundred times more difficult than that of his white counterpart! God please help us and our black President!

    The Democrats are the real Christians. They believe in helping each other and taking care of the poor and sick. The Republicans are all anti-Christian and anti-American. They believe wealth should rule and everyone should look out for themselves and no one else. The rich should be educated and the middle-class should just shut-up and work for them.

    So much bashing and disrespect for the President but no solutions being offered. NONE. Has anyone noticed that sane moderate republicans are staying away from this wing nut field like they have an STD? The decent republicans are not chiming in or just leaving the party and politics altogether. Some of you have even called the President divisive. I say its the "he's not one of us" rhetoric that has divided this country, all your Kenyan, muslim, birther crap. You evangelicals do not have the key or the deed to heaven or hell that you can send anyone to.
