Perry: ‘God help us’ if Romney doesn’t win

(CNN) – If the voters who supported his presidential bid aren’t fired up to support Mitt Romney, the GOP had “better get a fire going,” Rick Perry said Thursday.

“God help us if he doesn’t win,” Perry said in an interview on Fox News.

The Republican Texas governor looked beyond differences that emerged on the campaign trail between himself and the former Massachusetts governor, including the financial industry bailout designed to keep “too big to fail” banks above water.

“I think he understands that too big to fail – and I’ve heard him say that on numerous occasions – is not appropriate, and that the economic models of supply and demand - they work,” Perry said.

The issue of bank bailouts made under the administration of President George W. Bush, however, may be a lasting difference between Perry and Romney. While Romney has said he opposed federal bailout of the auto industry – arguing in his “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt” op-ed that a process of managed bankruptcy would serve the company better – he said as recently as March that the financial industry bailout was a different matter.

“There was a different occurrence that happened at the end of President Bush’s term, and this was that there was a concern in the country that all of the banks were going to go out of business, that there was going to be a run on the banks,” Romney said in Arbutus, Maryland. Concerned with the stability of large banks, he said companies were prepared to pull millions of dollars from their accounts, and with that “there was a fear that the whole economic system of America would collapse.”

Perry had a different take on bailouts on Thursday. “Whether it’s Wall Street or motor companies, is bad public policy.”

When he withdrew from the presidential race after a disappointing finish in the Iowa caucuses, Perry threw his support to former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who ended his own bid this week. As the nomination appeared increasingly to be going Romney’s way, Perry made a late April announcement that he would back Romney.

But should Romney not win in November, Perry may have yet another run up his sleeve. He said in February that the 2012 debates “could be” preparation for a White House run in 2016.

OR you could stop asking me for help and get off your worthless ass and help the people that elected you. You create your own path god has nothing to do with ... well anything. Psst he's not real.

"God help us" if Romney DOES win! If Romney wins, it will all but PROVE that God does NOT exist! Please don't destroy the last vestige of faith on Earth by putting a flip-flopping, gun-loving, multi-wife making nut bag in the White House.

Whining and carping from the right... not one real solution offered for the issues the country faces. Just how stupid do they think the voters are?

My question is this: Who are the "us" that Perry is worried about? I don't think it's the American people he is worried about. I think it is the Republican Party. If Romney doesn't win, and the economy continues to improve over the next four years, the Republicans will not have a leg to stand on for the 2016 elections.

If Rick Perry is a religious as he pretends to be, then God WILL help us and he has nothing to worry about.

I have finally decided to jump ship and support the gop's cause! Really! I know how the gop can get the unemployment rate back up to 10%! First of all, I trust that you don't share this information with the democrats! Here is what you republicans have to do! If all of you republicans and teapartiers were to quit your jobs and file for unemployment, the unemployment rate is bound to go back up to 10%! How bout it guys? What do you say? And please don't let the democrats know that I shared this classified information with you!

Um, don't good Christians like Perry believe that God is all powerful and that God can determine everything that happens?

If Obama wins, isn't that the will of God? Or is it only when Republicans win that it is God's will?

I'm sorry did I miss something? The economy is improving, two wars are mostly over, our number one enemy is dead and that's bad? Imagine how good of shape we'd be in if the republicans would have worked toward solutions instead of making up crazy budgets and blocking anything Dems tried to pass. I mean really is it too much to ask to work with your counterparts and reach common ground? If they get control you'll see fast action when they take away your social security, medicare, education funding, environmental protection, food testing, and deregulate the financial sector cause you know it'll trickle down to us peasents and we can trust industry to do the right thing.

And while you're at it gop, you could also tell your conservative five on the supreme court that they too can help the unemployment rate go up by quitting their jobs!

Perry has his and personally I am not a fan but lets look at results. Texas has had more jobs than Obma has for the entire county for the the last 3.5 years. In the real world results matter. Most of these kids getting out of college are about to find out what its like in the real world and their grades and activities are going to matter trying to get a job. Obama's record for job performance is pitiful. He would not have lasted a year in my industry with his results.

Maybe if Rick Perry calls upon the "little" Gods of the Universe, . . . . . the Pope, Billy Graham and Franklin Graham, they can pull a "rabbit out of a hat" and Romney will win!! On the other side of the coin, if the BIG GOD in the sky answers the prayers of ALL of us who don't want another 8 years of Bush. . . . President Obama will win reelection!! I'll bet the BIG GOD in the sky has the answer in his "hip pocket"!!!

    @Pham

Your comparison is pathetic and irrational! Texas is just one state! President Obama has the entire country to run! And by the way, did Rick Perry inherit two deadly and costly wars? Did he inherit the worst economic crisis in US history? Did Rick Perry have to deal with the most divisive legislature in US history? And by the way, oops I forgot the third point I was about to make!

Dear Rick. The world (arguably) did not end when George W. won a second term. Neither will it end with the second President Obama term.

The first president to get an Arab country to sign a peace treaty with Israel? Sure, why not? Killer of Osam Bin Laden sounds real good, too, along with savior of the auto industry. As for the economy, Reagan was the one who sent us down the deregulation-mania road and also felt the debt did not matter, as long as the spending went to the military. Obama has done more in 3 years to stem the bleeding than anyone else could have done, and is setting us on a sound base of sensible regualtion and taxation. We can pay off the debt ( I believe we can do anything in this country if we set our minds to it) but its a hell of a lot harder when one sector of the population is constantly being whipped up into a frenzy over policies they largely proposed themselves. By the way, its not far to 7.5 % unemployment, which is where it was when Reagan took 49 states in '84. We know you don't want it there, but keep posting your worthless rants though: we're all enjoying them as we hard-working Americans keep working together to get our country out of the ditch you righties drove us into.
