Perry: ‘God help us’ if Romney doesn’t win

(CNN) – If the voters who supported his presidential bid aren’t fired up to support Mitt Romney, the GOP had “better get a fire going,” Rick Perry said Thursday.

“God help us if he doesn’t win,” Perry said in an interview on Fox News.

The Republican Texas governor looked beyond differences that emerged on the campaign trail between himself and the former Massachusetts governor, including the financial industry bailout designed to keep “too big to fail” banks above water.

“I think he understands that too big to fail – and I’ve heard him say that on numerous occasions – is not appropriate, and that the economic models of supply and demand - they work,” Perry said.

The issue of bank bailouts made under the administration of President George W. Bush, however, may be a lasting difference between Perry and Romney. While Romney has said he opposed federal bailout of the auto industry – arguing in his “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt” op-ed that a process of managed bankruptcy would serve the company better – he said as recently as March that the financial industry bailout was a different matter.

“There was a different occurrence that happened at the end of President Bush’s term, and this was that there was a concern in the country that all of the banks were going to go out of business, that there was going to be a run on the banks,” Romney said in Arbutus, Maryland. Concerned with the stability of large banks, he said companies were prepared to pull millions of dollars from their accounts, and with that “there was a fear that the whole economic system of America would collapse.”

Perry had a different take on bailouts on Thursday. “Whether it’s Wall Street or motor companies, is bad public policy.”

When he withdrew from the presidential race after a disappointing finish in the Iowa caucuses, Perry threw his support to former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who ended his own bid this week. As the nomination appeared increasingly to be going Romney’s way, Perry made a late April announcement that he would back Romney.

But should Romney not win in November, Perry may have yet another run up his sleeve. He said in February that the 2012 debates “could be” preparation for a White House run in 2016.

◄◄Poll: Obama ahead of Romney in Virginia

That's RIGHT – and putting old McDonnell on the ticket will not help.
    1. Stimulus accepted by Kaine and even McDonnell was the reason why jobs were saved.
    2. Unemployment went down because of the "overall" downfall of unemployment the country had
    3. Teachers are still begin laid off and county/school workers had no raise in three years plus lost 2% of salary (schools)
    4. We are promised our 2% back this year BUT, we have to contribute 5% towards our VRS; for the next 3-5 years, we will get a 1% raise towards that contribution until we reach 5%; meaning, we may never see another raise for the next 3-5 years!!

McDonnell is also a woman-hater; People of VA knows all about McDonnell and we're not having it!!

I don't think that Perry can really be one to speak about economic issue. I don't know how he has stayed governor of Texas except there are plenty of sheep for this dumb wolf.

Oh, spare me, the nonsense, Perry! The U.S. is not going to drift into the ocean or come apart at the seams if Obama runs another term. If anything, Obama should do better because he's had four years practice; on-the-job training as it were. So sad that the Republicans would elect 'anyone' just to get a Republican in office – you'd think they'd want the best for their country. Putting a secretive Romney in the White House is not what is best for the country. Get over yourself, Perry!

God help the middle class if these extremists win. The only people worried about Obama winning are the ultra wealthy like Perry, Romney, Gingrich, Koch, Trump, etc., etc.

It's not God who'll be helping you for the next four years, Rick, but president Obama's 2nd term will help all of us. Romney is total destruction in the making because he adheres to an extremist right wing agenda, but really isn't a true conservative.

saw Rick Perry of fox news today(May3) and backed Mitt on let the auto indestry go to brankrupcy court. He stated that nothing would have happen to the works or retires pension. Perry lives in la la land. The state of R.I. had a city go bank rump the first thing they did was cut the pension of the retires by40% and cut the pays for the city works by 30%. In Providence to balance the budget they froze the pension for retires next 25 years, that is called pension reform. He should have said God helps us if Mitt is elected.

Do even the rightwing nutjobs listen to Rick Perry these days? With friends like Bachman and Perry, Romney sure doesn't need enemies. The Republican establishment would be wse to sweep the likes of Perry, Bachman, Caine and even Santorum and Gingrich under the rug as fast as possible if they want to preserve Romney's slim chance to win. Everytime one of these turkeys gobble about Romney I just have to think of the old saying "Birds of a feather flock together."
