Perry: ‘God help us’ if Romney doesn’t win

(CNN) – If the voters who supported his presidential bid aren’t fired up to support Mitt Romney, the GOP had “better get a fire going,” Rick Perry said Thursday.

“God help us if he doesn’t win,” Perry said in an interview on Fox News.

The Republican Texas governor looked beyond differences that emerged on the campaign trail between himself and the former Massachusetts governor, including the financial industry bailout designed to keep “too big to fail” banks above water.

“I think he understands that too big to fail – and I’ve heard him say that on numerous occasions – is not appropriate, and that the economic models of supply and demand - they work,” Perry said.

The issue of bank bailouts made under the administration of President George W. Bush, however, may be a lasting difference between Perry and Romney. While Romney has said he opposed federal bailout of the auto industry – arguing in his “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt” op-ed that a process of managed bankruptcy would serve the company better – he said as recently as March that the financial industry bailout was a different matter.

“There was a different occurrence that happened at the end of President Bush’s term, and this was that there was a concern in the country that all of the banks were going to go out of business, that there was going to be a run on the banks,” Romney said in Arbutus, Maryland. Concerned with the stability of large banks, he said companies were prepared to pull millions of dollars from their accounts, and with that “there was a fear that the whole economic system of America would collapse.”

Perry had a different take on bailouts on Thursday. “Whether it’s Wall Street or motor companies, is bad public policy.”

When he withdrew from the presidential race after a disappointing finish in the Iowa caucuses, Perry threw his support to former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who ended his own bid this week. As the nomination appeared increasingly to be going Romney’s way, Perry made a late April announcement that he would back Romney.

But should Romney not win in November, Perry may have yet another run up his sleeve. He said in February that the 2012 debates “could be” preparation for a White House run in 2016.

God chose Perry, and Bachman, and whoever else happened to say they were running to cater to the evangelical crowd. Now is he saying GOD is against Obama? i heard lyrics from a song once that says "the Lord uses the good ones, and the bad ones use the Lord." Maybe Perry will get lucky and be chosen VP so they can get the mormon and evangelical vote. Bachman could be secretary of state! Lord help the United States if any of that comes to fruition.

This the same Parry who prayed for rain but got only more drought? I don't think he communicates with God very well, so if Parry's concerned about Romney losing in November, I don't think we should worry much.

isn't he the guy that said "god help us if I don't win"? Didn't god, according to him, tell him to run... and apparently just to teach him what a fool he was?

If all these conservatives were put in a time machine and sent back 500 years they would all look like liberals. The problem is they don't realize that in another 500 years they will look as ridiculous as their counterparts did 500 years ago. Square heads are always on the wrong side of history...too bad it takes so much time for them to change.

These guys always invoke religion. Why? Cause it panders to the fools who really somehow think if there is a God, and if Jesus did live the way the Bible says....that he would in any way go for the elite, powerful rich guys. I mean...really? Wasn't it that group of conservatives at the time that saw Jesus' liberal message a threat? Boy how thick can these folks minds be?

By "us" he means the Republican party, especially as Santorum will be an early favourite for the next nomination.

I love it when Politicians bring God into things. God doesn't play into politic's, he likes to sit on the side line and watch people tell lies and stab each other in the back while they claim God told them to run. That being said this is coming from a once candidate who like Romney had their own Mandate, so much for little government. How can you argue against the POTUS if you also had mandates as Governors.

If Romney wins, only God will be able to pay off our national debt, since Romney's tax plan will add more than 3 trillion in deficits over the next 10 years compared to current (that means Obama's) policy. Romney claims that he will cut spending, but he won't say what spending cuts he has in mind. In a March interview with the Weekly Standard, Romney said that he will not repeat the mistake he made against Ted Kennedy by telling people what spending he will cut. Romney knows that if people know what he will do once in office, they will not vote for him.

Just more fear-mongering from the "idiot wing" of the GOP. Then again, the "idiot wing" is pretty much 99% of the party...
