Do-over: N.C. newspaper takes back endorsement

(CNN) - North Carolina's largest newspaper rescinded its endorsement in a congressional primary Thursday, saying the Republican candidate "has done nothing but embarrass us and himself" since receiving their backing less than a week ago.

Noting recent "birther" comments Jim Pendergraph made shortly after receiving their nod last Saturday, The Charlotte Observer said in an editorial there are "at least two better choices" among the nine GOP contenders seeking to fill the vacant 9th district seat.

Romney: Don't expect Santorum endorsement today

(CNN) – Mitt Romney, who is meeting with former candidate Rick Santorum in Pittsburgh Friday, said in an interview an endorsement from his former chief rival wasn't imminent.

"I don't think we have plans for an endorsement today," Romney said on Fox News. "I think all the Republicans will come together and support my candidacy. We said so on the stage in debates against one another. We'll get the economy going."

Republicans quick to react to jobs report

Washington (CNN) - Both the presumptive GOP presidential nominee and the chairman of the Republican National Committee were quick to use April's unemployment numbers to criticize President Barack Obama's job on creating jobs.

"It's a terrible and very disappointing report this morning. Clearly the American people are wondering why this recovery isn't happening faster, what's taking years and years for the recovery to occur. And we seem to be slowing down, not speeding up. This is not progress," Mitt Romney said Friday in an interview on Fox News.

Party committees release dueling videos

Washington (CNN) - The Democratic National Committee and the Republican National Committee were on the attack Friday morning, armed with videos critical of the other party's presidential candidate.

With the release of the April unemployment figures Friday morning, the RNC put out an internet video with their new slogan "Hype and Blame," a play on words from Barack Obama's successful 2008 slogan of "Hope and Change."
