Barkley to Romney: 'We're going to beat you like a drum'

(CNN) - According to always-outspoken Charles Barkley, Mitt Romney's "going down" in November's presidential election.

The former pro-basketball star and NBA hall-of-famer turned hoops-analyst made the comments Sunday night during the airing of a playoff game between the Boston Celtics and the Atlanta Hawks.

Romney, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, and his wife Ann were at game, which was held at Boston's TD Garden. A picture of them in the crowd was shown on TNT, which along with CNN is part of Time Warner's Turner Broadcasting division.

"We are going to beat you like a drum in November. But don't take it personally. I like you. You seem like a nice guy. But you're going down bro," Barkley said on the TNT broadcast, after seeing Romney in the crowd.

Barkley, a former Republican who switched his party affiliation to Democrat, has previously spoken out about the race for the White House. In December, he described the GOP presidential candidates as "idiots" for their criticism of the president.

Barkley twice weighed runs for the governor's office in his home state of Alabama, but never took the plunge into campaign politics.

Arizona Sen. John McCain, a top Romney surrogate who was the Republican presidential nominee in 2008, responded to Barkley on Twitter Monday, writing: "Dear Charles Barkley, "don't take it personally, you seem like a nice guy," but you're clueless – @MittRomney wins. Wanna bet?"

@ PaulCat, I agree with you. That alone proves that he is not a leader. He has to see what President Obama is thinking or saying first before he can respond. Just pitiful and shameful. Mittens is not a leader that i want running the United States Of America period.

Sir Charles is right, Willard Romney will never be in the White House except on a public tour. Hopefully the "well-oiled weathervane" will stop his now 6 year running presidential campaign and pick up another hobby, perhaps deciding how to spend his millions sitting in the Cayman Islands and Swiss bank accounts. Judging from what I've seen on the news, I guess he's already crossed off in-home elevator from his list...

Woe. What an endorsement. I was worried about Obama's trillion dollar deficits, UE over 8% and debt over GDP, but maybe I should rethink it all. LOL

Biotechdev, read the history books. Only once in the history of this country a president was forced to trim government and not spend his way out of a recession. That little lesson sent us into the depression. The only way to get out of the hole this country was in is to spend like crazy. Funny how republicans can do it, but Democrats can't. Look at spending by president throughout history and then question why the rebups are making the deficit look like the culprit. Turn off Fox news and look around and do some reading. If you don't read up on History, you will be forced to vote republican forever.

Just wait! Ask Mitt about his temple ceremony in the Mormon church. The one they can't talk about. The blood oath of the prophet against the federal government. The debate in the Senate on Reed Smoot. This county is in for a big shock if they elect a Mormon. I've lived among them my entire life. They have really put Utah into the dark ages.

Can you imagine if Ernie Johnson had said the same comment about Obama. He would have been investigated by the USS and put on administrative leave. I love Chuck's basketball analysis but come on, for those of us who pay for the NBA with our "after fair share" tax dollars, have Chuck leave his politics at the gym door so we can enjoy the game without having to think about the ever-growing federal government.

Because the country is at or very near it's credit limit. What is it that you don't understand about this? Do you think the country can continue to borrow $20, $30, $50, $100 TRILLION? Did it work for Greece or any of the other European socialist financial disasters? Talking to Democrats and socialists about finance is like talking to a 5 year old about rocket science, they just don't get it.

Barkley's a former Republican. I wonder if he switched before or after he became more health and weight concious. Either way, it sounds like the man has an enlightened perspective on politics. He knows who is trying to help the economy and who it trying to serve their masters.

Most stupid people don't broadcast their ignorance by going on television and commenting on things they know little to nothing about. Charles Barkley is an exception to that rule.

Why give the Republicans another chance at destroying our country? Their selfish, greedy actions crippled our
great country, do not allow them a second chance to 'finish us off'. Romney supporters include the likes of
Bachmann,Santorum,Daniels,Gingrich, I would not trust these folks with driving directions much less with any
say so in our country's direction. These folks have show little respect to our President, can you image how much
respect them will have for you and me? little to none.

The answer is simple. According to twisted liberal logic, it is impossible for black people to be racists. Do you ever hear of blacks being charged with hate crimes? Nope.
