Barkley to Romney: 'We're going to beat you like a drum'

(CNN) - According to always-outspoken Charles Barkley, Mitt Romney's "going down" in November's presidential election.

The former pro-basketball star and NBA hall-of-famer turned hoops-analyst made the comments Sunday night during the airing of a playoff game between the Boston Celtics and the Atlanta Hawks.

Romney, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, and his wife Ann were at game, which was held at Boston's TD Garden. A picture of them in the crowd was shown on TNT, which along with CNN is part of Time Warner's Turner Broadcasting division.

"We are going to beat you like a drum in November. But don't take it personally. I like you. You seem like a nice guy. But you're going down bro," Barkley said on the TNT broadcast, after seeing Romney in the crowd.

Barkley, a former Republican who switched his party affiliation to Democrat, has previously spoken out about the race for the White House. In December, he described the GOP presidential candidates as "idiots" for their criticism of the president.

Barkley twice weighed runs for the governor's office in his home state of Alabama, but never took the plunge into campaign politics.

Arizona Sen. John McCain, a top Romney surrogate who was the Republican presidential nominee in 2008, responded to Barkley on Twitter Monday, writing: "Dear Charles Barkley, "don't take it personally, you seem like a nice guy," but you're clueless – @MittRomney wins. Wanna bet?"

  1. Democrat Class Warfare - Destroying the economy, destroying the country

They won't fire or suspend Barkley because he's black and it was on TNT, an Obama supporter network. If this was a white announcer saying the same thing about Obama he'd be fired in an instant.

Hank Williams Jr. lost his Monday Night Football gig for going political. Sir Charles will probably get a pass. What a surprise.

Pathetic. Do your job, Charles. Stay away from politics. You don't own CNN, TNT, or any other network. You are a hired hand. You can be fired before you know it. Stop playing the fool.

Nahhhh.... I consider it a community service and special ed for the braindead libtards in here. I know its rather hopeless but someday they might be able to think and feed themselves. And if I get a real breakthrough, they might be potty trained too.

@ Democratic "vomit, teatroll vomit" Admitting that you don't comprehend what you read is the first step to recovering from the GOPer's lies. I congratulate you. Second step is going to another channel other than Faux News for Nuts and getting some real news for once.

I'll Tom respond to you again. After your "fool" recovery, maybe the two of you will have a cold one together.

Sir Charles didn't call Romney any names. He just made what I think is an accurate forecast of the fall election. Mittens is going down; he'll get a lot of time to spend in his new 12000 sq ft Malibu home with the car elevators, and that explains in a nutshell why he's going down. Republicans can call it class warfare, but the truth is that the majority of the people in this country are not going to trust someone who has those kinds of priorities.

You nits need to go away with this class warfare non-sense. Bottom line it makes no sense for someone who is a millionaire to pay less in taxes than someone who makes $50K a year, percentage wise, think about it with your brain if you have one, someone making $50K has alot less purchasing power for every dollar he loses versus someone who makes $50 million a year, is the person making $50 million going to be scrounging to make ends meet. It's common sense has nothing to do with class warfare. The point is to ensure that their is still class mobility in the US, it seems this fact has been lost on some of you. Finally, as far as the economy not doing better under Obama. Are you serious. We were losing 750,000 jobs a month, when Obama took office, the dow was in the 5000's , we've added jobs 26 straight months, added nearly 4 million since 2010 as opposed to losing them when Obama first took office, finally, the dow is at well over 13,000. Bottom line if you say today the US is not in better economic shape than when Obama took office in 2009, then you are simply a ...ing idiot and I wish they could send you back in time to enjoy living 2009 every year of your life.

Would anyone who actually works for a living, vote for a man who has his liquid assets invested in the Cayman Islands, is a Bishop for a church that believes they are the chosen latter day Saints?, and created a universal healthcare system in Massachusetts that is saving businesses large and small tens of millions of dollars and now he's disavowing the same plan on a national scale to please the insane wing of his party? Romney is the ultimate flip flopper on many issues. He supports the Ryan Budget Plan which will prolong the screwing of the 99% by the 1%. He is another Chicken Hawk and like his fellow chickens avoided the Vietnam war with deferments.

    The taxation questions are these:
Why should Government be able to tax your money that you already paid taxes on when you die?
Why should you pay a higher tax rate on the interest earned from money you have already been taxed on?
Cut the Federal Government, Cut the IRS, Cut Obama!
47% PAY ZERO IN TAXES while the rest of the hard working responsible citizens carry them on their backs...the free ride is over.

Anyhow. Noel, you really need a good dose of reality. Almost everything you said is the exact opposite.

I used to pray for the wild idea of changing the American electoral system completely: Switching to a legislature elected through a proportional representation system; Allowing for far greater influence and representation from multiple smaller parties; Getting money out of the campaigns by limiting private donations, etc. Now I see it's all pointless, since all "third" parties that would emerge as major players would be headed by Ted Nugent, Charles Barkley, and Dr. Ruth. I surrender.

Funny, when someone in the media says something against a politician, the people who support that politician get up in arms "stick to your damn job!" "you do not know politics!". Bet if he said something in support of Romney those same people would not be telling Barkley to stop commenting on politics.

Perhaps Romney can change the country around, maybe he too will be able to read the golden tablets from the hills of New York that only Joseph Smith could read and those tablets will tell us how to fix the issues in our country.
