Election isn't 'in the bag,' Carville warns

(CNN) - Wake up, Democratic political strategist and CNN contributor James Carville warned his own party in an opinion article published Tuesday. "Nothing is in the bag," and from his perspective, the factors are stacking up strongly in the GOP's favor.

"You can shoot five Bin Ladens, you can save 10,000 banks and 20 car companies, even pass the most sweeping legislation in modern American history; if people don't think that you are connected to their lives and are fighting for their interests they will vote your tush out of office in a nano-second," Carville wrote in the op-ed on CNN.com.

Even with the stipulation that presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney is a weak candidate running a weak campaign, "I fear that all of this will not be enough unless we have real change of attitude about the difficult campaign ahead of us," Carville continued.

  1. Romney is not My Hero

The President could raise the dead, walk on water, cure every disease AND the GOPers would still hate him. It doesn't matter what good he does, or tries to do.

Sounds like those Pharisees and some other guy... What was his name again?

    OBAMA 2012!

These dens need to know that Obama is fighting against the most powerful folks who want their money in tax cuts that mitten and the repubs promised them, and since they own the media, and nothing goes without their blessings. Obama is in a lot of trouble.

Obama has some serious challenges this election. Unemployment is still high, and no matter who caused it or what Obama has done to reduce it, he's the president and the president will be blamed when the economy is bad. It ain't fair, but it's political reality. He's black; that will win him the 5% of the African-American votes that wouldn't vote Democrat anyway, and it will cost him an unknown number moderate republicans that might otherwise vote Democrat. He's been very effectively demonized by the GOP. They have ranted and raved against every breath he has taken for 4 years, and that will help rally the base vote.

Obama has always had two big advantages in this race as well: The memory of the W administration still lingers, and the weakness of the GOP field. Romney is not a strong candidate, and the primaries have left the party still divided. If you place your bet today, bet Obama and give the points.

Obama has Bin Laden and GM he saved with our money. Other than that he has given $5T in debt, excessive regulations, a bloated healthcare bill over half us did not want, and bigger and more intrusive government. You cannot sell what you have not accomplished thats why all he does is demonize the opposition.

To all the DemoLiberal posters who have commented on this site.

Enough with your racist spin. Obama is despised because he is incompetent.
He wants to turn the country into Socialist Europe.
If that is what Demoliberals want, then kindly move to France or Greece.

Romney is going to win, so get used to it.

The issue with Obama is that he went far left with his ideology how to approach the economy, spent huge amounts of money based on promises that have never been met. Remember 2010 with Americans across the country turning out at Town Hall meetings in opposition to the huge spending by Democrats? Guess what? They were absolutely correct. The spending was a bust. But Obama and the Democrats did not listen. In fact, they got worse by passing ObamaCare by the slight-of-politics Reconciliation manuever and now need to answer for why it is already doubling in cost. The message in 2010 was accountability. The message in November will be accountability. American voters are not chumps.

And THAT will be the deciding factor. Remember...corporations are people. HA!! You think Robmey is connected to you and your interests?

Any working class American should get off their duff and work to re-elect this president. He has fought practically every battle without much if any republican help....mostly obstructions created to stop him and therefore we are having a slow turn around. No mistake things are getting better because of Obama....no matter how much republican bs is being thrown around....their policy does not help the workers who have built this country and would be thrown out like yesterday's trash by Romney. Remember he said in his own words " I like to fire people".....that's us.

  14. Former Republican, now an Independent

In the 2000 election we proved that an U.S. election can be stolen. In 2004 we witnessed how an election can be bought, and in 2012 we are going to see what comes of the Supreme Court ruling that it is OK to inject money into a campaign from anonymous donors. It is refreshing to see that the democratic PACs are disclosing their donors, but extremely disappointing that Karl Rove and the the other republican super PACs refuse to do so. This is a clear indication they have a lot to hide, possibly money coming from the Saudis and other foreign countries.

James also forgot to mention..........When the Supreme Court justices rule against Obamacare in June/July and say that it is unconstitutional.......And, when they rule that Arizona has every right to enforce the federal immigration laws in their state........These are going to be embarrassing and disasterous to Obama!!

Also, if North Carolina votes in favor of the amendment tonight--which states that marriage is between a man and a woman ONLY......This will mean that Obama will lose North Carolina, as he has made his support for gay marriage very well known!!

Excuses like this are weak. Obama had 2009 and 2010 granting every wish he had and here we are. Don't blame the Republicans. They have been doing their job in Washington. We sent them there in 2010 to cut spending and bring down unemployment. Check and check. Finally we are seeing some results.

Obama lost the Independents when he went radical liberal in 2009. He has done nothing since 2010 to show he is listening. He has no plan forward, just excuses like what you posted. We need to go forward, not backward to 2009 and 2010.

Carville is right. Democrats took Scott Brown lightly and he won Ted Kennedy's seat. This forced Democrats to compromise with Republicans and pass essentially a Republican healthcare plan (the Heritage Foundation came up with the idea of individual mandate). While it is true that Scott Brown is a better candidate than Romney, is far more likeable, and is not an unprincipled flip-flopper, you can never take anything for granted with the American voters. After all, they voted for G.W. Bush twice, and more than 4,000 of our troops died in Iraq. On the other hand, Bush was also a better candidate than Romney, is far more likeable, and is not an unprincipled flip-flopper.

The President could find the cure for cancer, grow angel wings and turn water into wine and he would still be completely unacceptable to a huge section of the American population. Unfortunately, color is still his biggest unresolved barrier.

Always a sure sign the poster is a GOBP cult member because he pretends his little group of bigots and Ayn Rand nuts weren't responsible for 80% of that debt. Oh yeah, and how has government gotten bigger, other than to match population growth?

"In the 2000 election we proved that an U.S. election can be stolen. In 2004 we witnessed how an election can be bought"

Actually, based on facts coming out in an Ohio lawsuit our so-called "liberal" media refuses to cover, Karl Rove and his minions stole Ohio with a "man in the middle" hack of the Ohio voting servers.
