Federal inmate's sizable West Virginia presidential vote tally

(CNN) – An incarcerated 53-year-old man is beating President Barack Obama in eight West Virginia counties following the state's Democratic Presidential Primary Tuesday, according to the latest figures from the West Virginia secretary of state.

Keith Judd, who is currently serving a 210-month sentence at a correctional facility in Texarkana, Texas for extortion, is trailing the president 42.28% to 57.72% in the state based on the unofficial vote totals, but is leading in eight counties.

Judd only needs 15% of the vote to qualify for at least one delegate at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina this summer, according to The Charleston Gazette. His expected release date is June 24, 2013, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Obama has not had electoral success in West Virginia, a reliably red state in presidential politics. He was crushed by then-Sen. Hillary Clinton in the state's Democratic presidential primary in May 2008 by a 67% to 26% margin. And he lost the state to Sen. John McCain, the then-Republican presidential nominee, 56% to 43% in the November 2008 general election.

The Mountain State's Democratic Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and junior Sen. Joe Manchin have also recently distanced themselves from the president ahead of their 2012 elections.

In Tuesday's election, presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney received nearly 70% of the vote, according to the latest unofficial figures, while former candidate Rick Santorum garnered over 12% support and Rep. Ron Paul captured just over 11% of the vote.

  1. Obama 2012 - BEND Forward America, take another 4 long years of FAILURE

Obama's decision to come out in favor of gay marriage is going to cost a LOT of Democrats their seats come November. Just when you thought the Democrats couldn't get more out of touch with America, they prove you wrong. Democrats think San Francisco is Main Street America!!

Obama is now in the process of leading the Democrat Party into the desert for 40 years. I hope you all enjoy the walk.

Robt is correct. WV is a coal mining state and Obama's policies are definitely anti- coal. The six counties he lost are heavily involved in coal mining. Emotional comments are entertaining, but more intellectual comments would be welcome.

Beverly – NYC - Keep it classy West Virginia. Good Luck with your one industry state (COAL) when the rest of us find other greener options.

Hang in there West Virginia. Once Romney is sworn in, all this Obama lunacy is out the window and you'll keep your jobs and your homes.

I am not defending the decision of my fellow West Virginians, It was ignorant, however alot of you on here think you are intelligent, some of you don't realize the difference between WV and VA. As far geography and history go remember WV broke away from the south in the civil war hmmm. But yes I agree that race played a big card as well as the heritage and love of coal mining here, also your ignorance shows by including all of us from WV in your statement calling us inbred, ignorant morons.

Exactly as expected. The posts calling the people who voted for this inmate "racists" and "stupid" show up right on time!

It's good to see liberals completely missing the point yet again. Hint: the people who voted for this criminal didn't do so because they wanted him to win. They did so to prove the point that they will vote for ANYONE but Obama. But instead of taking the hint, Dem's shake their heads and say "See how dumb people are? They wanted an inmate to win! They actually think that Obama is so terrible that they will vote for any other moron! Hahaha!"

Same thing we heard from lib's about the 'Tea Baggers' right before they re-arranged the House in record numbers. Oops.

Same thing they said about Romney before national polls showed him neck and neck with Obama. Oops.

Think Obama solidified votes by backing gay marriage? Sure did. And he solidified millions of independents who don't believe in gay marriage for Romney, even though they may not have voted for Mitt otherwise. Right or wrong, the majority of Americans are against gay marriage politically. If Obama wants to take a position against the majority in a democracy to lock in specific votes, more power to him. And more power to his opposition, who is thanking him for the boost.

Does it surprise anyone that West Virginia would vote that way? Can you say REDNECK????? They only like people that drive pickup trucks and carry guns. I'm sure they prefer someone who is in jail because they all probably have at least one reletive or friend behind bars.

This says so much more about the the irational behavior of voters than it does anything about the President. It also says a lot about the decline in jornalism that this is considered a top story!

    @ Tom Jones:

I find it hilarious that you would question my education when (1) You don't know me, and (2) Your reading comprehension/ level of retention leave a lot to be desired (Meth anyone?!).
I raised NONE of the issues that you're attributing to me, but perhaps you needed to use my moniker in order to have your diatribe posted.
I will admit, however, to having a grand time of making fun of West Virginia!
Hey remember to vote in November if you can read the "ballot".

The world keeps evolving and the lizard brains of the right keep clawing backward toward the shadows – which is fine, but go it alone.
Let the rest of America enjoy the sunshine of freedom in peace. Good riddance….oh and don’t forget – bigots suck.

I'm not sure how a political statement translates into a license to be rude, derogatory, and insulting to the population of an entire state. And WE are racist?!? There's no denying that examples of your comments exist here in WV. But is it fair to make generalizations and judgements about all of us, based on incomplete and imperfect assumptions? Is this behavior an example of how "enlightened" we should strive to be? You may be maligning a region rather than an ethnicity, but it's still prejudice. Pot, meet kettle!

No, you freaking morons. What it says is that the people from West Virginia would rather have a convicted felon as their president than a socialist, non-American idiot!

The people of West Virginia must be kidding. The residents are proud people but they are making a joke of the political system which allows a man incarcerated in another state to run for the presidency. Did the people actually know this about the man?
