Leading progressive group attacks Romney over women's issues

Washington (CNN) – MoveOn.org's political wing is out with a new TV ad that criticizes presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's stance on women's issues.

The independent progressive group says that the spot's release is timed to President Barack Obama's commencement address in New York City Monday afternoon at Barnard College, the prestigious all-women's college.

The spot claims that Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who's making his second bid for the White House, moved to the right on women's issues to win the GOP presidential nomination.

In the ad, various women look into the camera, and say "you're the presumed GOP nominee. And all you had to do was threaten to let our employers take away our contraception coverage, threaten to let our insurance companies, charge us more, just because we're women, and threaten to get rid of Planned Parenthood –a lifesaving source of healthcare for millions of women. So this November, we're gonna remember how you threw women under the bus, just to get the nomination."

The ad aired Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press" and a MoveOn.org spokesman says that spot will also run on national cable, but would not reveal the size or length of the ad buy.

Obama won the female vote by 13 points in the 2008 presidential election, according to exit polls. The president's re-election campaign is working to keep women voters in his camp this November, as national Democrats continue to push their narrative that paints the GOP as waging a "war on women."

The Romney campaign has responded to attacks by Democrats over women's issues by pointing to the president's record on the economy and to the job loss by women during Obama's three and a half years in office.

"The real war on women is being waged by the president's failed economic policies," said Romney on the campaign trail late last month.

Many recent national polls suggest Romney trails Obama by double digits among women voters in general election matchups, with Romney leading the president by single to double digits among male voters. Both campaigns have been appealing recently to women voters.

Romney has already lost the votes of women and latinos. End of story. The clown blew in the primaries with these (and other demographic groups) by snuggling up to far right wing extremists in the fractured and crumbling remnants of the Republican party.

So, I guess they'll send RNC PR BS out again to announce that women's issues aren't civil rights issues, like he did with gay marriage. Seems they define civil rights issues only for rich people and corporations. All others are non-issues to them.

I expect that one day they will carry this idea to the logical conclusion that, since corporations are "people", they have proxy rights to vote for all the "sub-people" they employ. Then they will have defined democracy right out of existence.

If Romney wants to show he believes in women's rights, maybe he could take his wife with him to the Mormon Temple. Oh that is right, he can't because he believes women are not the equal of men and shouldn't be allowed in the Temple. Just as most minorities are banned from being leaders in the Mormon Religion. It is one thin g to give lip service to equality in public. It is another thing entirely to stand up for you wife in fromt of your Elders and demand equal rightsd for women.
If he doesn't have the courage to stand up to his Elders, he will fold like a house of cards to the Right Wing nutjobs. That is not even taking into account strong leaders of other countries that would roll over him like he wasn't there.

You need to do better than reciting Fox talking points. This number is flat wrong and was a Sean Hannity special. Fact: more men lost jobs than women.

    I like ria's comments.

"...the president's failed economic policies" ???
What is Romney smoking? We were losing half a million jobs per month at the end of 2008! We've been paying for 2 wars, managing 2 major bailouts, paying for Bush's UNFUNDED Medicare Part D program that banned negotiating lower prices, and all this with a huge cut in revenue thanks to Bush's huge tax cuts for the wealthy! And Republicans have the audacity to accuse Democrats of blaming everything on Bush! Not everything – but all of the above are plain and simple facts that Republicans hope voters will forget. Now, we've had nearly two years of job growth – too slow, but aren't we still paying for a lot of the above mentioned expenses?

Let's go over it one more time: Bush crashed the economy. Romney is endorsed by the Bush crime family. Romney = Bush. Therefore, a vote for Flip Rom-money is a vote to return to the economy crashing, war-mongering policies of George W. Bush, the worst president ever.

Why is that so hard for you to see, Four?

Making up issues about women's rights? Sorry, but the attack on women's rights is very real and not "made up", and it has been lodged by Republican Governors and state legislatures. And it's all on the record....they aren't trying to hide it. "Everyone has the same rights".......yeah, right........who is making stuff up with that statement?

12 states with GOP Governors, are making abortions very hard to get and funding to Planned Parenthood is disapperaing. A couple of Governors had the bright idea of trans vaginal ultrasounds as a requirment for abortions.
Robmey himself said he will end Planned Parenthood money, is against abortions, and will cut off funding to Untied Nations for AIDS education in other countries.
Ok, so there is no war on women? Wanna bet? And women will not forget anytime soon what this clown show wants to do to control women.

The only war is the the war on womens intelligence that these ads help promote. The real issue is Obama's war on business, jobs and our economy. Given the damage Obama has done to the country, women included, in four years without "flexibility", can you imagine the damage he can do with four more years with "flexibility"?!

"Well then where are all the new laws and regulations for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the ones that really caused the disaster,"

Except those laws didn't "really cause the disaster." What caused the disaster was excessiev leveraging and risk taking with bundle mortgage-backed securities that were essentially worthless. Wall Street tried to spin turds into gold by paying ratings companies to underrate the risk associated with those securities, then insuring them based on those ratings...which of course caused the underwriting to be incorrect and faulty due to the underrated risk. They then played a complex game of hot potato with credit default swaps while (a) making investments betting on those securities to fail and (b) encouraging investors to bet on those securities to succeed. The end result was that lpaces like Lehman were left holding the hot potato, tried to cash in on the insurance and insurers like AIG had to admit to being insolvent as a result (because of the rigged ratings and underwriting). Your Faux Noise Red State talking point word salad that attempts to gloss over the patently ridiculous, unethical and dangeruos behavior on Wall Street is essentially the equivalent of blaming the woodcutter when someone steals his kindling to go start a forest fire.
