Washington (CNNMoney) – President Bill Clinton on Tuesday said those running for office should make reaching a debt deal the top campaign issue in the fall's elections.
"I think this budget issue should become front and center in this election," Clinton said on Tuesday at a fiscal summit sponsored by the Peter G. Peterson Foundation.

Only if it includes tax increases on the filthy rich and stronger regulations to stop their scams. Sorry if I don't care too much what the guy who enabled the GOBP cult's repeal of Glass-Steagall thinks
Oh and Mr. Clinton; the Senate Democrats have produced NO BUDGET in over 3 years.
ol mitt will mumble and stumble through yet another of his less than inspiring speaches blaming the president for everything from gas prices to the weather. We had a president who balanced the budget and the repos did all they could to get him impeached. Now they take credit for the balance like mitt does for the auto industry. How hard is it to see these clowns for what they are/. Their idea of a balanced budget is cut services for the poor and middleclass. Health care social security medi care and then give the rich 1% a tax break. If they arent hiring now what makes you think they wull hire later. We have bent over backwards giving breaks so the rich corporations will hire. Instead they want twice the work with half the workforce for no increase in pay. So who is getting rich here? Obama 2012

Good luck getting Obama to agree to a single penny of actual spending cuts...
don,t worry folks that trillion dollars worth of iraq oil the republicans promised is going to be unloaded at a dock near you.they have to unload there load of bull sh-t first
The banking and financial industry complained about the Banking Act of 1933 even as Congress debated it. As the Act worked its way through Congress, banks vigorously opposed it, causing some doubts about whether it would pass, especially with the provisions Carter Glass advocated that prevented banks from entering into the stock market.

Thanks Bill ! I'm glad your not thinking with your middle leg these days !
@Mike: "Good luck getting Obama to agree to a single penny of actual spending cuts..."
He already has! Boy, you righties are either incredibly dim or incredibly gullible to believe all these GOP lies!

I don't believe Obama has issues with spending cuts.. He has issues with every proposition for debt reduction from the Grand Obstructionist Party that has included additional tax cuts for the 1% (a la Ryan's budget with no way to pay for them other than to make Obama look bad), or Defense spending increases, or privatization of SS, etc....
These alternatives are present by the GOBP with FULL KNOWLEDGE that they are NOT ACCEPTABLE to the other side. It's political grandstanding at its worst...
As we have already learned from the GSA, the federal government has already cut to the bare bone. There just isn;t anymore that can be cut without starving kids and old people.
What should be front and center is how republicans held the economy hostage last year, and the year before that. What needs to be the center of discussion i the obstruction going on in Congress. Vote the GOP OUT!!!
The Party of No has one goal – defeat of President Obama and control of our government by the fat-cats who run the GOP. One look at the record of the Republicans in the Senate and this is abundantly clear to anybody with a brain.
Budget issue??? What budget issue??? Democrats have already gotten the solution from their socialist buddy in France. All we need is a 75% tax rate for people stupid enough to work. That will fix the "budget issue". Now please get to work, the government needs their 75%.
These idiotic voters don't give a ish. All they want is the uumm black guy out of the white house. They are willing to sell their souls to the devil just so this happens. Anyone with a 3rd grade education knows the Presidency is not a dictatorship, that it's a democracy and the POTUS and Congress have to work together. They also know this Congress has had one goal since being elected and that is to make President Obama a one termer. They also know the rethugs are completely going against the POTUS and the people, but that's alright, as long as the uumm black folks vacate the white house.
Go ahead, vote in a proven liar that is going to do nothing but make him and his fat cat friends even richer, while your dumb azzes get poorer. Just so you know when they make the cuts and take away any help for the poor, that means you too. Not just minorities.
OBAMA 2012!

and you are not blaming Obama for that ?? Wow.. I guess Obama's reducing the size of Govt by some 273,000 is an inconvenient truth for the GOP. Of course, you probably just complain about the job loss. How hypocritical of the Party of less Govt...
He's right. The Republicans have already reneged on last summer's debt deal at least twice. Once during the super committee hearings, and more recently passing legislation changing the mandatory spending cuts to Defense.
Republicans are simply stalling and hoping that they can win control of the Senate, so that then they can implement the mandatory one trilliion in cuts helter skelter as they see fit.

Except, of course, the Defense Budget, and finding revenue to offset the cuts that really do "starve" children and
old people, not to mention their health care benefits. Do you want to vote for people whose allegiance is to
Norquist and Koch, or do you want someone whose allegiance is to America.

No, they are just incredibly stubborn. They have their own narrative and they stick to it, truth be damned. History is written by the victors, and they feel pre-ordained to ultimate victory.
@ John, PA
if the BEST the GOP can come up with is the Ryan Budget plan then I hope they take another 3 years to for the Dems to make a plan.
