Obama to accept on night of MTV awards

(CNN) – President Barack Obama plans to deliver an acceptance speech on the night of the MTV Video Music Awards in September.

Obama's speech, however, won't be for a statuette of one of the moonmen.

Instead, he is planning to accept the Democratic presidential nomination at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, on September 6, the same evening that greats of the pop, hip hop, and top 40 music industry will accept MTV's moonmen statuettes at Los Angeles' Staples Center.

An MTV spokeswoman told CNN the station would air the awards from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Eastern, rather than their usual 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. "to avoid conflict with the Democratic National Convention proceedings that evening."

The Obama campaign had no comment.

Obama accepted the 2008 Democratic nomination at Denver's Mile High Stadium, and this year's venue can hold up to 80,000 people.

Major winners at last summer's Video Music Awards included Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Tyler the Creator, Britney Spears, and Justin Bieber.

– CNN's Jessica Yellin and Michelle Jaconi contributed to this report.

Our rock star at his best to bad he doesn't seem to care enough about jobs, economy, and our country as much as he does being a rock star.

OK, our president will accept a speech at MTV, whereas he will skip APEC... I am deeply troubled by what priority he has.

Ok, both of you can't read!!! POTUS acceptance speech is not AT the MTV awards, he is accepting on the same night. No wonder most people around the world think the GOP supporters are uneducated red necks. Read the article.

@edog Oh good. MTV MV Awards will be in Staples Center, LA, California whereas DNC will be in BAC Stadium, Charlotte, NC
Look at the article: Same-(gender) activists to Dems: Quit Charlotte. Then okay, go to Sacramento. The second sentence will tell to "edog" one thing: BOTH HAPPENS IN SEP. 6! Moon Colony Obama.

It is so fitting that his acceptance speech will be at the Bank of America Stadium. If he could arrange a pre-speech cocktail party at the Blackstone Vampire Club it would probably be the first honest evening of his life. 'Ladies and Gentlemen, can I present the toady of big money, barack obama. Now please stand, grunt and clap your fins like any well-trained baby seals'.

Can this clueless/divisive president do anything other than "preen" for the cameras and campaign?! Will he ever be able to find enough time to tackle the real issues (economy, jobs, energy, etc., etc., etc.)?

Are these diversionary tactics so that he doesn't have to deal with the real issues?! I realize the lame stream media and the "Jollywood " crowd are giving him a pass, but wow!!! Doesn't this man have any decency?!

Oops! After what I have observed for almost four years, I think I have answered my own questions.

    I hope America HAS TOO!!!

However POTUS accepting the nomination the same night will cause them to move the award ceremony up early. If I lived in LA, I would love to go to an award ceremony at 5 pm Eastern.

Can't you see he is just using the Awards to hope that young ones will be in front of the TV.

I'm so tired of everyone complaining about Obama failing. He has not been given enough time. Give the man a chance and remember that Bush handed him a pile of you know what. If you rush Obama then you are a racist.

You need to get your lies straight and learn how to read. Your hate has disabled your brain's ability to reason and sustain rational thought processes. Pres. Obama will be in NC at the DNC convention, not in LA at the MTV Awards.

Hey Obama appealing to the next generation, and Romney appealing to the old 1950s and 60s trickle down mind frame. I feel that older American should let younger American lead us into the future, because older folks mind frame is too much in a box. We need a president and people who think out of the box to compete with a highly modernized and technical world, we cannot afford a lot of old ways of thinking pit falls.

Apparently republican/teaparty voters can't read or refuse to. This article is about Obama making his speech on the same night, however you guys think he will be in two different parts of the country at the same time.

I'll take "First World Problems" for $800 Alex.

Does anyone out there REALLY think it's going to be an issue? Are the people who watch the MTV Awards REALLY in the same group as people who would watch a political convention?

He is such a nose rubber, it makes me sick to even listen to his voice. I am sorry but had to say it. I usually stay in bound of being fair and nice, but this man irritates me. Why I just don't know, but my heart says "fake".
